Abstract: the piavu?u leporinus macrocephalus presents omnivore feeding habits, eating vegetables and seeds. the protein feed presents higher cost compared to energetic feed. therefore, the higher protein content is in the ration, the higher might be the production cost of the fish. this study aimed to evaluate the gross protein need in the diet of piavu?u fingerlings (l. macrocephalus). 125 fingerlings (0.625±0.011g) were distributed into 25 aquariums with a 30l capacity at a random design, with five treatments and five repetitions. the diets were formulated to contain 22; 26; 30; 34 and 38% of gross protein and 3200kcal dee kg.-1 the fish were fed four times a day (8:00am; 11:00am; 2:00pm; and 5:00pm). the water quality parameters during the experimental period remained in the normal conditions for good animal development. the best results of the final weight, gain weight and apparent feeding conversion were observed for fishes which were fed with diets containing 34 and 38% of gross protein, having differences (p<0.05) on the treatments with 22, 26 and 30 of pb. also there was no variation in the protein deposition and protein efficiency rate in the animals' carcass. it is recommended to use 34% of protein gross on the diets of piavu?u fingerlings.

Abstract: the present study evaluated the inclusion of meat and bone meal (fco) in nile tilapia larvae feeding. the diet was formulated to be isoproteic (38.6% dp) and isocaloric (3500kcal de kg-1) with different fco levels at 0; 5; 10 and 15%. a 30-day trial was carried out in a complete randomized design with 360 nile tilapia larvae (6.59 ± 0.02mg and 0.90 ± 0.08cm) distributed in 24 50l-aquaria and fed until satiation five times a day at 8h00, 10h30, 13h00, 15h30 and 18h00. at the end of the experiment the average final weight (pf), final length (cf), standard length (cp) and survival (%) (so) were evaluated and the data was submitted to a regression analyses. the inclusion level of up to 15% of fco in the diet did not influence larvae weight gain. however, the higher cp was observed in larvae fed with the highest level of fco inclusion in diet. therefore, it can be used a total of up to 15% of fco inclusion in nile tilapia larvae feeding ration.

Abstract: coefficients of apparent digestibility (cd) of dry matter (dm), crude protein (cp), crude energy (ce) and the availability of amino-acids (aa), phosphorus (p) and calcium (ca) of meals from tilapia filleting industrial waste (ft) for the nile tilapia were determined. sixty tilapias, mean weight and length 80.69±15.97g and 15.97±1.87cm respectively, underwent feces collection by sedimentation in cone-bottom tanks. dm, cp and be of ft had a cd of 83.55; 88.13 and 84.74% respectively, with digestible protein and energy rates equivalent to 44.39% and 3799.02 kcal of ed kg-1. ft had average cd of aa of 91.60%, with cd varying from 67.90% for fen up to 100% for arg and cis. whereas cd of p was 70.44% with 1.94% of available p, cd of ca of ft amounts to 51.10% with 4.02% of ca available. ft is a protein feed with a good index of apparent availability of its nutrients and may be used in feed of tilapia. above indexes will produce low cost feeds that also meet the requirements of the fish.

Abstract: the lambari astyanax altiparanae, is a very common species in the national rivers, with great potential for the national psyculture. it presents a fast growth and meat of eccellent flavor, being very appreciate like a delicacy and like an alive bait to sportive fishing. the poultry by-product meal is an important proteinic source from animal origin. the research was carried out with the objective to evaluate the poultry by-product meal inclusion (fv) in rations for lambari fingerlings. 125 fingerlings presenting average weight and initial length of 0.080±0.002g and 1.86±0.20cm respectively were used, they were distributed in 25 aquariums. the rations were formulated in form to contain 0, 5, 10 15 and 20% of fv in the diet. the ration giving was carried through four times a day, in a braning form and at the will. the avarage values of final weight (1.47, 19.2, 2.02, 2.11 and 2.15) and final length of (4.40, 4.78, 4.92 and 5.08cm) of the lambari fingerlings had presented linear increase (p<0.05) directly proportional to the inclusion levels of (0, 5, 10, 15 and 20% of fv) in the rations. the survival (88, 96, 92, 76 and 88%) and apparent alimentary conversion (4.58, 3.29, 3.25, 3.92 and 3.34) had not presented difference (p<0.05) among the (fv) levels in the diet. the inclusion of poultry by-product meal in rations based in ingredients of vegetable origin provides the performance and the proteic text of the carcass.

Abstract: the present research aimed at evaluating the inclusion poultry by products of birds viscera flour (fv) in the feeding of piavu?u (leporinus macrocephalus) fingerlings. 125 fingerlings with weight and medium initial length of 0.26±0.01g and 2.37±0.28cm, respectively were used, distributed in 25 aquariums (30 liters water capacity each) in an entirely casualized delineation with five treatments and five repetitions. the rations were formulated in way to contain 0; 5; 10; 15 and 20% of fv, being the same isoenergetics and isoproteics. the feed giving was realized four times at 8, 11, 14 and 17 hours, with base in 10% of the total biomass. the zootechnics parameters evaluated were the final weight (pf), final length (cf), weight gain (gp), apparent alimentary conversion (ca) and survival (so). there were observed an increase in the lineal differences (p<0.05) in the pf, cf, gp averages and ca with increase in the level of inclusion of fv. the so and fc didn't present difference (p>0.05) among the treatments. the increase in the inclusion of fv in rations up to 20%, improves the piavu?u fingerlings performance.

Abstract: this experiment was aimed at determining the apparent digestibility coefficients (adc) of the raw protein (rp) and of raw energy (re) of the wheat middling given to the nile tilapia (oreochromis niloticus) and evaluating the inclusion of wheat middling on the performance of nile tilapia fingerlings. in order to determine the adc, 40 tilapias with the average weight and length of 80g and 15.9cm, respectively, were used and submitted to the collection of the excrements by sedimentation. to the evaluation of the performance 125 fingerlings of nile tilapia were used, with an initial average weight of 0.80g, distributed into 25 aquariums with a 30l capacity at a random design, with five treatments and five repetitions. the experimental fish feed had inclusion levels of 0.00; 7.97; 14.94; 23.91 and 31.88% of wheat middling, substituting corn up to 100%. the adcs of rp and re of the wheat middling were 91.03% and 78.72, respectively, presenting 11.92% of digestible protein and 3134kcal kg-1 of digestible energy. no difference was observed (p>0.05) in the performance of the fish fed with the fish feed having the different levels of inclusion of the wheat middling. the wheat middling is a feed with good adc of rp and re and can be included in up to 31.88% in fish food for nile tilapia fingerlings without causing damage in its performance.

Abstract: total phosphorus contents for feeding silver catfish juveniles reared in net cagesphosphorous is an essential mineral for fishes, because it acts on various metabolic processes. however, high levels may jeopardize the water quality, and its lack could promote deficiency to animals. the aim of this study was to evaluate the productive performance of silver catfish juveniles reared in net cages and fed with diets containing different total phosphorus contents. a total of 600 silver catfish juveniles, with initial weight of 6.88 ± 0.26 g and 9.28 ± 0.99 cm, were randomly distributed in 20 net cages, in a stocking density of 30 fish per cage. a completely randomized design, with four treatments, different total phosphorus contents (0.65%, 0.80%, 0.95%, and 1.10%), and five replicates were used. these contents affected (p < 0,05) the final weight, length, weight gain, specific growth rate, and condition factor. however, the survival rate and feed conversion did not differ (p > 0,05) among treatments. thus, it is possible to recommend the commercial use of 0.80% total phosphorus in diets for silver catfish juveniles, providing a good productive performance and, above all, reducing the pollution caused by those diets.

Abstract: the aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of pacu (piaractus mesopotamicus) raised in cages and fed diets containing levels of crude protein (cp) and digestible energy (de). it was used 3.960 fish with an average initial weight of 293.38 ± 5.67 g, distributed in 18 net-ponds with 5 m3, with 220 fish per experimental unit (44 fish/m3) in a 3 × 2 factorial scheme composed of three levels of crude protein (25, 30 and 35%) and two levels of digestible energy (3,250 and 3,500 kcal/kg). feeding was performed four times a day (9:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.) until apparent satiety of the animals. no differences were observed for weight gain, survival rate, apparent feed conversion and specific growing rate. nevertheless, there was a difference on visceral fat deposition which was higher for animals fed ration with higher energy level. it was not observed influence of levels of protein and energy of the diet in contents of moisture, crude protein, mineral matter and lipids in the fish fillets, either. rations containing 25% of crude protein and 3,250 kcal/kg of digestible energy promote better performance results.

Abstract: this trial was carried out to evaluate the effects of feeding tilapia fillet by-products meal (tf) for piau?u (leporinus macrocephalus) fingerlings. one hundred and twenty-five fingerlings averaging weight of 0.19 ± 0.004 g and length of 2.37 ± 0.28 cm were assigned to a completely randomized design with five treatments of five replicates. the diets were formulated to contain levels of 0, 5, 10, and 15% of tf and 0% of tf plus methionine. diets were fed at 10% of biomass four times a day (8 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.). the means of water abiotic parameters were 7.89 ± 0.05, 89.93 ± 0.42, 7.15 ± 0.10 and 27.10 ± 0.95 for ph and electric conductivity (μs.cm-1) and dissolved oxygen (mg.l-1) and temperature (oc), respectively. at the end of the experiment, the means of survival (so), final weight (fw), final length (fl), weight gain (wg), condiction factor (cf), and apparent feeding conversion (fc) were measured and calculated. significant effects of treatments on cf, ca, and fc were detected. the better results were observed with the increasing levels of ft and supplementation of methionine. fl increased and fc decreased linearly with the increasing levels of tc, where the lrp model better adjusted to data when 8.56 and 8.19% of tf levels were estimated. the crude protein (pb) in the carcass presented better results for the treatments with more than 5% of ft and 0% of ft with methionine supplementation. it is recommended to include up to 15% of ft in the diets for piau?u fingerlings to obtain better results of performance and cp deposition in the carcass, that becomes the ft an alternative protein source.

Abstract: this experiment was conducted to evaluate different levels of digestible energy on the performance of nile tilapia larvae (oreochromis niloticus) during the sexual reversion phase. three hundred and seventy-five larvae with initial average length and weight of 21.0±4.0 mg and 1.19±0.72 cm, respectively, were allotted to 25 30l-aquarium. a completely randomized design with five treatments and five replicates was used. the aquarium with 15 larvae was the experimental unit. the diets were formulated to contain levels of 3,300, 3,525, 3,750, 3,975, and 4,200 kcal/kg of digestible energy and to be isoprotein (38.6% digestible protein). the animals were fed ad libitum five times a day. at the end of the experiment, the averages of weight (pf), survival rate (so), condition factor (fc) and length (cf) were analyzed. linear reduction of fishes pf and cf, as the dietary digestible energy levels increased, was observed. no differences on fish so and fc of different treatments were observed. deleterious effects on performance due to the increasing dietary digestible energy levels were noticed for nile tilapia larvae during the sexual reversion.
