Revista Brasileira de Zootecnia , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-35982008000300010
Abstract: the experiment aimed to test different ratios digestible lysine:crude protein (cp) in diets for broiler until 21 days. one thousand and eight hundred 1-d birds of cobb strain were allotted to a completely randomized design with a hierarchical rank model with three levels of cp and four ratios digestible lysine:cp was used. in the performance trial, the diets were fed to 30 birds in each of the five replicates. at 21 days of age, feed intake, weight gain and feed conversion were evaluated. a linear increase on weight gain was observed in the 18.5 and 21.5% of cp levels. feed conversion improved linearly according to the ratios of lysine within the three levels of cp studied. carcass yield increased linearly with increasing rations at the level of 15.5% of cp, it not being significant at the other levels of cp studied. in the metabolism trial, the ratios digestible lysine:cp showed linear effect on eman (21.5% of cp) and nitrogen excretion (18.5% of cp), quadratic effect on eman (15.5 and 18.5% of cp) and n retention coefficient (15.5% of cp). based on the results of weight gain, the ideal digestible lysine:cp ratio in the initial phase was of 6.8% (18.5% of cp) and 5.9% (21.5% of cp), or 1.26 and 1.27% of digestible lysine. the dietary cp contents fed to broilers in the initial phase can be reduced to 18.5%, with no effect on bird performance, but by decreasing nitrogen excretion to 24%, since the diets are supplemented with synthetic aminoacids.

Galáxia , 2008,
Abstract: This paper seeks to unveil the traditions molded by the trajectory of cultural policies implemented by the Brazilian government from the emergence of the national cultural policies in the 1930s to the present time. To bring to light these sorry traditions, the study carries out a comprehensive review of the existing literature scattered through innumerable fields of knowledge. Based on this historical and multidisciplinary itinerary, it is possible not only to identify the major challenges to be overcome so that Brazil's cultural policies can become effective today, but also to assess how these challenges have been faced in the Lula/Gil administration.

Abstract: The text focuses on the relationship between cultural policies and knowledge society in Brazil. At first, it outlines an overview of national cultural policies: its three traditions (absence, authoritarianism and instability) and the performance of the current government of President Lula and Minister Gilberto Gil, considering its initiatives and limits. Later, the informational policies developed by the Brazilian state and related policies implemented by the current Ministry of Culture are examined, as well as robust government programs in this area. It concludes that the attention drown to this issue has not yet made possible cultural policies effectively consistent addressing knowledge society in Brazil.

Inventário e patrim?nio cultural no Brasil
Nogueira, Antonio Gilberto Ramos;
História (S?o Paulo) , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-90742007000200013
Abstract: the dematerialization of cultural patrimony has brought back the necessity of inventories as tools for the recognition of cultural diversity and the starting point for public policies of patrimony. thus, retracing the trajectory of mario de andrade in the constitution of the inventory of the senses means searching for the origins of the formulation of a notion of patrimony and of a conception of preservation which puts the inventory in the center of a preservation practice (especially with regards to non-tangible patrimony) legitimizing it as a tool for preservation itself and not only as a managing tool for assets already registered. signal of the modernist narrative of the construction of a "brazilianness", it is in its genesis, articulated to the "re-discovery travels to brazil (1924, 1927, and 1928/1929) and, later on, objectified in the actions of the culture bureau of s?o paulo (1935-1938).

Determinants of Patent Citations in Biotechnology: An Analysis of Patent Influence Across the Industrial and Organizational Boundaries

Computer Science , 2014,
Abstract: The present paper extends the literature investigating key drivers leading certain patents to exert a stronger influence on the subsequent technological developments (inventions) than other ones. We investigated six key determinants, as (i) the use of scientific knowledge, (ii) the breadth of the technological base, (iii) the existence of collaboration in patent development, (iv) the number of claims, (v) the scope, and (vi) the novelty, and how the effect of these determinants varies when patent influence - as measured by the number of forward citations the patent received - is distinguished as within and across the industrial and organizational boundaries. We conducted an empirical analysis on a sample of 5671 patents granted to 293 US biotechnology firms from 1976 to 2003. Results reveal that the contribution of the determinants to patent influence differs across the domains that are identified by the industrial and organizational boundaries. Findings, for example, show that the use of scientific knowledge negatively affects patent influence outside the biotechnology industry, while it positively contributes to make a patent more relevant for the assignee's subsequent technological developments. In addition, the broader the scope of a patent the higher the number of citations the patent receives from subsequent non-biotechnology patents. This relationship is inverted-U shaped when considering the influence of a patent on inventions granted to other organizations than the patent's assignee. Finally, the novelty of a patent is inverted-U related with the influence the patent exerts on the subsequent inventions granted across the industrial and organizational boundaries.
Long-term annual fertilization with nitrogen and potassium affect yield and mineral composition of 'Fuji' apple
Nava, Gilberto;Dechen, Antonio Roque;
Scientia Agricola , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-90162009000300013
Abstract: nitrogen (n) and potassium (k) are closely related to orchard productivity, since they are usually found in higher concentrations than others macronutrients in apple (malus × domestica borkh) fruits. this research was carried out to assess the effect of eight years of soil additions of n and k on yield, fruit size and mineral composition of 'fuji'/marubakaido apple in s?o joaquim, state of santa catarina, southern brazil. a factorial design was used with n and k annual fertilizer rates (0, 50, 100, 200 kg ha-1 of n and k2o) replicated in three orchards from 1998 to 2006. yield was estimated by multiplying the total number of fruit per tree by the mean weight of 100 randomly sampled fruit. fifteen days prior to harvest, 24 fruit pulps were analyzed for n, k, ca and mg contents. increases in yields were noticed in five and four years, due to the n and k fertilizer additions, respectively. fruit size was more affected by k than by n fertilization. fruit mineral composition was affected by both n and k fertilization. n concentration and n:ca ratios were enlarged by n fertilization. k concentration and k:ca ratios were also enlarged by k fertilization. ca fruit concentration was reduced by n fertilization and often by k. ca-related fruit disorders were not observed even after 180 days storage. however, n and k fertilization affected ca nutrition. thus, when fertilizing with n and k, it is imperative to use combined practices in order to offset the detrimental effect that these nutrients may cause on ca concentration in the fruit.
