Single Visit Apexification with Mineral Trioxide Aggregate

Abstract: Aim: To create an apical barrier in non vital immature permanent teeth with Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA). Summary: Two case reports where the patients presented with fractured upper anteriorteeth.Radiographic evaluation revealed open apices with blunderbuss canals. Apical stop was created with mineral trioxide aggregate by apexification and the root canals were obturated with thermoplasticized gutta-percha. Key learning points: Mineral trioxide aggregate appears to be a promising alternative to calcium hydroxide apexification because of its high biocompatibility, superior sealing ability and reduced treatment time.
Evaluation of Gutta-Percha and Resilion- Retreatment -an in-vitro study

Abstract: Persistent or secondary intraradicular infection is a major cause of endodontic failures. Nonsurgical retreatment is the treatment of choice for the management of endodontic failures when access to the root canals is feasible. Endodontic retreatment consists of cleaning, shaping, and three-dimensional obturation of previously obturated root canals. Various techniques are employed to remove the root canal filling materials including the use of hand or rotary instruments with or without heat application, solvents, and/or ultrasound Ni-Ti rotary instruments have also been used for removing filling materials from root canal walls. Gutta-percha, in combination with a variety of sealers, is the most commonly used material for root canal obturation. Resilon, a thermoplastic, synthetic, polyester polymer-based root canal filling material, was recently proposed as an alternative to gutta-percha. The purpose of this study was to compare the amount of residual filling material on the canal walls in root canals filled with gutta-percha or Resilon and retreated using the Protaper treatment files.
Code Clone Detection with Refactoring support Through Textual analysis

Abstract: Copying code fragments and then reuse by pasting with or without minor modifications or adaptations are common activities in software development. This type of reuse approach of existing code is called code cloning and the pasted code fragment without is called a clone of the original. One of the major shortcomings of such duplicated fragments is that if a bug is detected in a code fragment; all the other fragments similar to it should be investigated to check the possible existence of the same bug in the similar fragments. In this paper, we compare different clone detection techniques and tools. First part of this paper explains the classification of clone detection techniques and the later work done in this area and proposed method.
Gamma Radiation Induced Effects in TeO2 Thin Films

Abstract: Gamma radiation induced effects on electrical and optical properties of thin films of tellurium dioxide (TeO2), a wide band gap semiconductor material, of different thicknesses prepared by thermal evaporation method have been studied in detail. The current-voltage characteristics for the thin films before and after gamma irradiation were analysed to obtain normalised current versus gamma dose plots at different applied voltages. The plots obtained clearly show that the normalised current increases almost linearly with the radiation dose up to certain limit and this limit is found to be dependent on thickness of the thin film. Beyond this limit the current is found to decrease. For gamma sources emitting higher gamma energy, this linear behaviour extends to higher radiation doses. The optical characterization of the as-deposited thin films as well as gamma irradiated thin films clearly shows that the optical band gap decreases with increase in the gamma radiation dose up to a certain limit. However, the optical band gap has been found to increase beyond this limit. The observed changes in electrical and optical properties clearly indicate the possibility of using TeO2 thin film as a gamma radiation dosimeter.
Effect of Mass on Convective Heat Transfer Coefficient During Onion Flakes Drying

Abstract: In this present study an open sun and greenhouse drying of onion flakes has been performed to study the effect of mass on convective heat transfer coefficient. Three sets of experiments with total quantity of onion as 300, 600 and 900 g were done. The onion was continuously dried for 33 h both in open sun and in the roof type even span greenhouse with floor area of 1.2 x 0.78 m2. Experiments were carried out during the months of October to December 2003 at IIT Delhi (28°35`N 72°12`E). Experiments were started at 8 am. The data obtained from experimentation under open sun and greenhouse conditions have been used to determine values of the constant `C` and exponent `n` by regression analysis and consequently, convective heat transfer coefficient. It is observed that there is a significant effect of mass on convective heat transfer coefficient for open as well as greenhouse drying. It is also observed that the rate of moisture evaporation in case of greenhouse drying is more than that in open sun drying during the off sunshine hours due to the stored energy inside the greenhouse. The experimental observations were analyzed in terms of percentage uncertainty also.

Abstract: Computers are a very important part of our lives and the major reason why they have been such a success is because of the excellent graphical operating systems that run on these powerful machines. As the computer hardware is becoming more and more powerful, it is also vital to keep the software updated in order to utilize the hardware of the system efficiently and make it faster and smarter. This paper highlights some core issues that if dealt with in the operating system level would make use of the full potential of the computer hardware and provide an excellent user experience.
Utilization of Antental care services, chidl survival and their relationship in twenty five states of India

Abstract: It is useful to conduct periodic assessment of the utilization of antenatal care and its impact on child survival. Hence it is imperative to study the relationship between child survival and utilization of antenatal health care services. The second National Family Health Survey conducted in 1998-99 is used to measure utilization of antenatal care services and its relationship with child survival in twenty-five states of India . This survey collected information from a national representative sample of more than 90,000 ever-married women aged 15-49years. In addition, it collected information about 32,393 children born during the three years preceding the survey. An index was constructed for measuring the utilization of antenatal care and child survival by using child mortality rates. The study reveals that there is a wide disparity in utilization of antenatal care services across various states in India . Utilization of antenatal care services is very low in the east, north, central and northeast regions of India as compared to western and southern regions. Also the child survival rate in the twenty-five states was higher in the southern states, although it was low in the other parts. Based on the findings of the study, it is suggested that active interventions be made to improve the utilization of antenatal care by creating proper awareness regarding the health facilities which are available in these regions and give more education on how and when to utilize these services

Cost-effectiveness of HIV prevention interventions in Andhra Pradesh state of India

Abstract: Based on data from a representative sample of 128 public-funded HIV prevention programs of 14 types in Andhra Pradesh, we have recently reported the number of HIV infections averted by each type of HIV prevention intervention and their cost. Using estimates of the age of onset of HIV infection, we used standard methods to calculate the cost per Disability Adjusted Life Year (DALY) saved as a measure of cost-effectiveness of each type of HIV prevention intervention.The point estimates of the cost per DALY saved were less than US $50 for blood banks, men who have sex with men programmes, voluntary counselling and testing centres, prevention of parent to child transmission clinics, sexually transmitted infection clinics, and women sex worker programmes; between US $50 and 100 for truckers and migrant labourer programmes; more than US $100 and up to US $410 for composite, street children, condom promotion, prisoners and workplace programmes and mass media campaign for the general public. The uncertainty range around these estimates was very wide for several interventions, with the ratio of the high to the low estimates infinite for five interventions.The point estimates for the cost per DALY saved from the averted HIV infections for all interventions was much lower than the per capita gross domestic product in this Indian state. While these indicative cost-effectiveness estimates can inform HIV control planning currently, the wide uncertainty range around estimates for several interventions suggest the need for more firm data for estimating cost-effectiveness of HIV prevention interventions in India.India has had substantial resources allocated for HIV/AIDS control of which the major portion would be spent on HIV prevention [1,2]. Development of Flood Forecasting System Using Statistical and ANN Techniques in the Downstream Catchment of Mahanadi Basin, India  [PDF]

Abstract: The floods in river Mahanadi delta are due to either dam release of Hirakud or due to contribution of intercepted catchment between Hirakud dam and delta. It is seen from post-Hirakud periods (1958) that out of 19 floods 14 are due to intercepted catchment contribution. The existing flood forecasting systems are mostly for upstream catchment, forecasting the inflow to reservoir, whereas the downstream catchment is devoid of a sound flood forecasting system. Therefore, in this study an attempt has been made to develop a workable forecasting system for downstream catchment. Instead of taking the flow time series concurrent flood peaks of 12 years of base and forecasting stations with its corresponding travel time are considered for analysis. Both statistical method and ANN based approach are considered for finding the peak to reach at delta head with its corresponding travel time. The travel time has been finalized adopting clustering techniques, there by differentiating high, medium and low peaks. The method is simple and it does not take into consideration the rainfall and other factors in the intercepted catchment. A comparison between both methods are tested and it is found that the ANN methods are better beyond the calibration range over statistical method and the efficiency of either methods reduces as the prediction reach is extended. However, it is able to give the peak discharge at delta head before 24 hour to 37 hour for high to low peaks.
