Outbreak Investigation of Cholera in a Slum of Northern India  [PDF]
Manoj Kumar, Vijay Lakshmi Sharma
Open Journal of Epidemiology (OJEpi) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojepi.2014.44031
Abstract: Cholera is one of the oldest and best understood endemic diseases. An actual bacterial enteric disease, it is characterized in its severe form by sudden onset, profuse painless watery stools (rice-water stool), nausea and profuse vomiting early in the course of illness. Endemic and pandemics are strongly linked to the consumption of unsafe water, poor hygiene, poor sanitation and crowded living conditions. A rapid survey was conducted for the outbreak investigation on August 4, 2008. The objectives were to investigate the outbreak, risk factors for cholera and recommend control measures immediately. Questionnaire based random convenient sample based investigative study. 60 families were contacted by the public health students. Approximate 300 individuals were screened for cholera cases. Simultaneously six water samples were also collected from the contacted family. Microbiological test for Vibrio cholera and E. coli was conducted. Randomly six water samples were collected from the Rajive colony. Microbiological test for Vibrio cholera and E. coli was conducted from the department of Microbiology, PU. Vibrio cholera and E. coli were found absent, in all the samples. One sample was found positive for unidentified bacteria.
Como encontrar as palavras-chave mais importantes de um corpus com WordSmith tools

DELTA: Documenta??o de Estudos em Lingüística Teórica e Aplicada , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-44502005000200004
Abstract: one of the most sensitive issues surrounding a keywords analysis with wordsmith tools is the selection of a subset of words in a corpus that deserve being looked at in greater detail. this selection is normally needed because the size of the key word list can reach several hundred, up to 1,500 or more. one way to extract a selection consists of the pulling out 'exclusive key words'. this key lexis is made up of keywords that only in a single corpus only, in comparison with a bank of keyword lists. nevertheless, comparing several keyword lists together is a demanding task, which most users of wordsmith tools are not expected to cope with. an alternative would be the application of a general cut-off point, established through previous uses of the keyword bank. such a cut-off point would indicate the section of a keyword list where it would be more likely to find exclusive keywords, with a certain degree of likelihood. the results obtained here suggest that the area corresponding to the top 31% to 53% of a keyword list are more likely to contain exclusive keywords.
Olecranon fractures: different surgical techniques

Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology , 2001, DOI: 10.1007/PL00012209
Abstract: Numerous systems of osteosynthesis of olecranon fractures are avaible. The numero-ulnar articulation badly bears the smallest incongruence and easily faces rigidity. Therefore the aim of therapy is the anatomical and permanent reconstruction of the articular surface of the olecranon, in order to mobilize the elbow as soon as possible. We analyzed 85 olecranon fractures, classified according to Merle d'Aubignè and treated with two different surgical techniques (intramedullart screw and AO tension band wiring technique). The results were compared at an average follow-up of 88 months. Excellent clinical results were obtained in 74,12%, good in 29.00%, sufficient 3,53%, insufficient in 2,35% of patients, with a mean of recovery in 2 months and only 2 cases of pseudoarthrosis (with dynamic procedure). Objective results were similar for two techniques adopted, whereas the subjective results in patients with screw. The screw is more suitable in medio-olecranic and basis-olecranic fractures, while the dynamic procedure gives better results in fractures of the apex of olecranon and comminute fracture. Tolerance of the intramedullary screw has generally proved to be better (65% of cases), while the dynamic assembling has been removed in most cases after fracture consolidation. Periarticular calcifications correlated with the type of fracture (e. g. comminuted, associated) rather than with the means of synthesis employed.

Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology , 2002, DOI: 10.1007/s101950200002
Abstract: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical outcomes of 22 patients (9 men and 13 women) aged 17–42 years, and affected with anterior knee pain. These patients underwent surgical derotation of the tibial tuberosity in the period between September 1992 and December 1993. We describe the details of this new surgical technique to correct a torsional abnormality that has perhaps been underestimated in the past, as a possible cause of anterior knee pain. Follow-up clinical and radiographic controls (average follow-up, 78 months; range 72–87 months) allowed us to document the efficacy of this new procedure as a treatment for anterior knee pain resistant to conservative therapy, in young patients with external hypertorsion of the proximal tibial metaphysis and without significant chondropathology.
Congenital pseudarthrosis of the clavicle: surgery or conservative treatment
K.S. David-West,D.A. Sherlock
Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology , 2002, DOI: 10.1007/s101950200037
Abstract: Congenital pseudarthrosis of the clavicle is very rare. We report the results of two cases, one managed conservatively and the second surgically. Neither patient had functional deficit, but the one treated surgically ended up with a scar, persisting non-union and a short clavicle. Surgical treatment should be discouraged for this condition.

National Journal of Medical Research , 2012,
Abstract: Introduction: Adolescence is a period of immense physical, mental and social changes. Aggression is very common feature in this period in the present day world. But very limited studies have been conducted regarding aggression among adolescents in rural India. The present study was conducted to find out different socio-demographic characteristics associated with aggression among adolescents. Materials and methods: The community based cross sectional study was conducted in Ramnagar, Jalapara and Rasulpur villages of Singur block of Hooghly district of West Bengal in Eastern India. The study included adolescents aged between 15 and 19 years of age. To assess aggression, Direct and Indirect Aggression Scale (DIAS) was used. Collected data was compiled, tabulated and analyzed using SPSS version 16.0. Results: A high proportion of adolescents scored very high in DIAS scale. Total aggression score was significantly higher among older adolescents (18-19 years of age), among males, among adolescents belonging to lower income groups and whose mothers were working. Physical aggression score was significantly higher in younger adolescents, but other types of aggression were found to be significantly higher among older group. Abstract: Article denotes to determination of antibacterial action of polyoxometalate holmium to causative agents of suppurative-inflammatory process in wounds of patients, which were suffered from trauma. Method of serial dilutions was used for determination of minimal inhibiting concentration (MIC) of holmium to staphylococci, enterococci and E. coli. Registration of holmium action shows the strong antibacterial influence to staphylococci and enterococci (MIC of holmium action to staphylococcal and enterococcal strains same 1 10 M, to strains of E.coli – 2,5 10 M). Solutions of holmium don’t have antibacterial action to strains of E.coli.

Dicle Medical Journal , 2013,
Abstract: Primary ovarian pregnancy is a rare type of extrauterinepregnancy with an incidence of 0.5-1% of all ectopic pregnancies. The incidence ranges from 1/40000 to 1/7000deliveries. We report a primary ovarian pregnancy in aspontaneus conception cycle in a 40-year-old womanwith no predisposing factor. The patient was admitted tothe emergency clinic with signs and symptoms of acuteabdomen with heamoperitoneum , in a preshock state. Anemergency laparotomy and wedge resection of the ovarywas performed. Histopathologic examination showedchorion villi embedded in the ovarian tissue in multiplesections in different areas of the material. This is a discussionabout this rare phenomenon, its ethiology, differentialand clinical diagnosis and a review of literature.Key words: Ectopic, pregnancy, ovary
