Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Fonoaudiologia , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-80342012000100005
Abstract: purpose: to identify language deficits in a group of elderly patients with dementia in tasks of free lexical retrieval, lexical retrieval with orthographic and semantic criteria, interpretation of metaphors and of narrative discourse, from the montreal communication evaluation battery - mac battery, as well as to verify the frequency of deficits. methods: participants were 13 patients with mild to moderate dementia, treated at the neurology sector of the ambulatory of movement disorders and dementia of the hospital santa clara of the irmandade santa casa de misericórdia de porto alegre (iscmpa). the neuropsychological assessment instrument was the mac battery, and the tasks were applied in the following order: free lexical retrieval, lexical retrieval based on orthographic criteria, lexical retrieval based on semantic criteria, interpretation of metaphors, and interpretation of narrative discourse. results: the group of patients with dementia showed impaired performance in all tasks from mac battery that were evaluated, with significant difference. furthermore, participants presented higher frequency of deficits, in descending order, in partial retelling of narrative discourse tasks (essential and present information), followed by the tasks of lexical retrieval with orthography and semantic criteria, and full retelling of narrative discourse. at least two patients showed deficits in some of the five tasks performed from the mac battery. conclusion: language evaluation using the mac battery allowed the verification of language processing deficits in elderly with dementia, characterizing that this instrument is also applicable to this clinical population.
Judicialization of health policy in the definition of access to public goods: individual rights versus collective rights
Menicucci,Telma Maria Gonalves; Machado,José Angelo;
Brazilian Political Science Review (Online) , 2010,
Abstract: the article analyses a form of judicialization of public policies in the health field. it has as its object lawsuits initiated against belo horizonte municipality arguing for the provision of services or the acquisition of inputs not obtained in the public system via institutional access routes. the argument is that the individualized quest for the guarantee of the right to healthcare via the judicial path is a form of reproduction of the tensions produced in democratic societies between the social and the individual conceptions of citizenship. by ensuring access to goods by means of individual suits, the judiciary interferes in the making of public choices taken on by public-sector managers, thus regulating opportunities for consumption according to a concentrating logic. and so the assertion of a constitutional right superposes the political right of the majority, represented by the executive, to make choices as to the goods that are the object of public policies, with a relatively significant financial and budgetary impact.

Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-204X1999000800002
Abstract: controlled hybridizations between 'natal' orange variety (citrus sinensis osb.) and male parent poncirus trifoliata (l.) raf. were performed in order to study zygotic and nucellar embryos behaviour at 120, 130, 140 and 150 days. at very date the seeds were removed and the embryos excised to characterize: development stage (globular, cordiform, torpedo and cotyledonal); colour (with or without chlorophyll); and location in the seed (close to the micropyle or more internal in the seed). from these characteristics contingency tables were evaluated to test independency hypothesis through fisher test and c2 (chi-square). dependence relationships were observed between the following characteristics: stages of the embryo development with location in the seed; stages of the embryo development with the seedling nature (zygotic or nucellar); between the plant nature with embryo location in the seed. it was observed that the most of the zygotic embryos at globular and cordiform stages were located close to the micropyle in the seed, behaviour at 130 to 150 days after pollination.
Dispers?o de Acarophenax lacunatus (Cross & Krantz) (Prostigmata: Acarophenacidae) em trigo armazenado, sob condi??es artificiais
Oliveira, Carlos R.F. de;Faroni, Lêda R.D'A.;Guedes, Raul N.C.;Pallini, Angelo;Gonalves, José R.;
Neotropical Entomology , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-566X2006000400017
Abstract: ability to disperse is fundamental for a successful natural enemy in a stored grain environment. the objective of the present work was to assess whether the mite acarophenax lacunatus (cross & krantz) disperses in a grain mass to locate its host rhyzopertha dominica (fabricius) (coleoptera: bostrichidae). the experiment was based on the release of physogastric females of a. lacunatus on the surface of glass containers containing petri dishes with 20 adults of r. dominica at different depths (4, 8, 12, 16 and 20 cm). the petri dishes were covered with voil to prevent insect escape. dispersion of the progeny of these physogastric females was assessed 10, 20 and 30 days after the beginning of the experiment. the mites were able to disperse and they were observed at every depth and at every period of assessment. nonetheless, the number of a. lacunatus decreased with the increasing depth, with highest values observed at the lowest depths after 20 and 30 days of storage. it is possible that evaluations conducted in periods longer than 30 days of the parasite release could demonstrate an increase in parasitism at higher depths. the results indicated that a. lacunatus actively disperse for up to 20 cm on its own, without the assistance of its host for phoresy.
Parasitismo de Acarophenax lacunatus (Cross & Krantz) (Prostigmata: Acarophenacidae) sobre Dinoderus minutus (Fabr.) (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae)

Neotropical Entomology , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-566X2002000200011
Abstract: published information on biological control of stored product insects by mites is meagre, although these arthropods are frequently found in the grain mass. the experiment was carried out aiming to assess the parasitism of the biological control agent acarophenax lacunatus (cross & krantz) on populations of dinoderus minutus (fabr.). the experimental units consisted of 1.7 l glass jars containing 100 g of dry cassava, infested with 20 adults of d. minutus. three days afterwards, four female physogastric mites were inoculated on each experimental unit. four replicates were used for each treatment. it was observed that the mite has higher biotic potential than the host d. minutus. the egg parasitism (%) showed a high efficiency of a. lacunatus as a biological control agent of d. minutus, what led to a significant decrease of beetle populations. there was also a decrease in cassava weight loss due to the mite presence. up to this data, a. lacunatus was reported parasitizing only eggs of r. dominica, however this report broadens the possibility of using this mite species in integrated pest management programs in storage environments.

Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0066-782X2010005000015
Abstract: background: stricto sensu post-graduation in brazil was implemented in 1965 to increase university professors' teaching quality and to prepare full, independent researchers. the brazilian share in isi publications has increased significantly since then, but little information is available on postgraduate quality. objective: to review 29 years of the postgraduate programs in cardiology at the federal university of s?o paulo and to analyze master and doctorate graduates' characteristics regarding their origin, publications and subsequent career. methods: we developed a questionnaire to evaluate 168 postgraduates who produced 196 theses (116 master's and 80 doctorate) over the period 1975-2004 and contacted 95.9% of them. information on publications were obtained through the usual science databases. results: 30% of graduates came from the north-northeast-central west regions and only 50% returned to their original area. mean age at admission was 32.5 and 34.9 years old for master and doctorate students, respectively; average program duration was, respectively, 39.0 and 43.2 months and approximately 50% went through it without any grants. thesis publications throughout these 29 years averaged 36.5% for master's and 61.9% for doctorate, but any publishing afterwards occurred in 70.2 and 90.6% of the cases. the average impact factor of the published theses was 1.3 for master's degree and 3.1 for doctorate programs with 65.5% and 87.5% of qualis a, respectively. currently, there are graduates in 17 states of the country and 12 have became full professors. conclusion: although the stricto sensu program, especially the master's degree program, has many areas that need improvement, they seem to be contributing to improve professional quality and the number of brazilian indexed publications.
Parasitism of the mite Acarophenax lacunatus on Tribolium castaneum
Oliveira, Carlos Romero Ferreira de;Faroni, Lêda Rita D'Antonino;Guedes, Raul Narciso Carvalho;Pallini, Angelo;Gonalves, José Roberto;
Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-204X2006000600024
Abstract: the objective of this work was to assess the parasitism potential of acarophenax lacunatus (cross & krantz) on tribolium castaneum (herbst). the experimental units encompassed petri dishes containing 25 g of wheat infested with 20 adults of this beetle species. after seven days of infestation, different mite densities (0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 females) were inoculated into the petri dishes. the increase in mite density led to a linear increase in parasitism, and a consequent reduction in populations of this insect. it is possible to use this mite species in the biological control of t. castaneum.
Factorial Validation of Warr’s (1990) Well-Being Measure: A Sample Study on Police Officers  [PDF]
Sónia P. Gonalves, José Neves
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2011.27108
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to test the factorial validity of the job-related affective well-being scale—the IWP Multi-Affect Indicator. The sample was composed of 1466 police officers and collected through self-report questionnaires. With the objective of validating the factorial structure of the IWP Multi-Affect Indicator, several models were tested using confirmatory factor analysis. The results supported a four-factor structure: anxiety, comfort, depression and enthusiasm, as well as a five-factor structure including the same four factors plus a second-order factor called global affective well-being.

Abstract: in this article, i try to look at three aspects which will serve as a tool to ponder over the emergence of childhood. at first, i refer to some limit of life experiences, in a way that they help scrape the visions that naturalize life and childhood, in particular those forged within the medical field. next, i try to demonstrate that the idea of childhood cannot be disconnected from associated institutions, such as home and school. finally, i try to draw the attention to the fact that the children's general institutionalization is deeply bound to government projects aimed at the population, including the socalled "child population", a project which, in turn, is anchored on the knowledge of demography, public hygiene and urbanism, for instance.
Uma nova perspectiva em saúde mental do bebé: a experiência da Unidade da Primeira Infancia
Gonalves,Maria José;
Análise Psicológica , 2003,
Abstract: the author briefly describes the evolution of concepts in infant mental health in the last twenty years. practice and principles of intervention at upi are discussed under the light of this evolution. being mental health prevention the first priority of the unit, risk evaluation in terms of resilience and vulnerability assessment are hallmarks of the clinical work. through the presentation of two clinical vignettes the author stresses that vulnerability and risk evaluation must take into account the intra-psychic dimension, namely the quality of early experiences of the self.
