Immunohistochemical Localisation of PDE5 in Rat Lung during Pre- and Postnatal Development
Angela Scipioni,Mauro Giorgi,Valeria Nuccetelli,Stefania Stefanini
Journal of Biomedicine and Biotechnology , 2009, DOI: 10.1155/2009/932961
Abstract: In mammalian lung, at the transition to extrauterine life, NO/cGMP signal transduction system is known to play crucial roles in the regulation of vascular resistance and is supposed to act in angiogenesis. PDE5, which is the most abundant cGMP metabolizing enzyme within the lung, is highly expressed in the perinatal period, but its localisation in the different pulmonary cells is still poorly known. In our research, PDE5 immunohistochemical distribution was investigated in foetal and neonatal rat lung. The highest expression of PDE5 was found in cells randomly located in the stroma; in newborns, in particular, many cells in the intersaccular walls were heavily labelled, while much lower staining levels were shown by smooth myocytes belonging to vessels and airways. On the basis of their immunoreactivity for -SM actin and/or desmin, most of the heavily PDE5-positive cells were identified as interstitial myofibroblasts and transitional pericytes, while only a few were interpreted as interstitial lipofibroblasts.

The role of research in the future of the agro-food sector
Rosanna Scipioni
Italian Journal of Animal Science , 2010, DOI: 10.4081/ijas.2006.5
Abstract: In the agro-food industry,in line with the European Commission’s White Paper on Food Safety,it is now firmly acknowledged that quality must be planned and developed through- out the food production chain, irrespective of whether the food is of plant or animal origin. Food safety depends on all operators in the food sector, specifically with regard to foods of animal origin, where safety begins with animal nutrition and, even before that,in the “field”. The objective of food safety must be viewed in the context of a dynamic situation which is the result of advances in knowledge, the development of investigative tools and the results sought in terms of guarantees to be provided to consumers. With respect to food of animal origin, present-day consumers are concerned about a series of problems which, apart from intrinsic food safety issues, ultimately involve a whole set of aspects typical of the productive system. These include worker protection,environmen- tal safeguards and, today, even animal welfare, though the possibility of identifying which foods are obtained with “animal-friendly”methods is still hardly present in many countries, given current labelling practices.

Italian Journal of Animal Science , 2010, DOI: 10.4081/ijas.2002.5
Abstract: The publication of the first issue of the Italian Journal of Animal Science marks two important events for the Associazione Scientifica di Produzione Animale -ASPA- (Italian Scientific Association of Animal Production): the birth of a new scientific journal in English and the end of the publication in Italian of the remarkable journal Zootecnica e Nutrizione Animale, which was started in 1975, as the official organ of the Association.

Non-Riemannian Gravitation amd its relation with Levi-Civita theories

Abstract: The mathematical relations between certain classical Non-Riemannian gravity models and Einstein-Proca theories are discussed in details. We also show some relations with theories with scalar fields.
Why do we live in a Riemannian space time ?
Roberto Scipioni
Physics , 1999,
Abstract: We start from the pure Einstein-Hilbert action in Metric Affine Gravity, with the orthonormal metric. We get an effective Levi-Civita Dilaton gravity theory in which the Dilaton field is related to the scaling of the gravitational coupling. When the Weyl symmetry is broken the resulting Einstein-Hilbert term is equivalent to the Levi-Civita one, using the projective invariance of the model, the non-metricity and torsion may be removed, so that we get a theory perfectly equivalent to general relativity. This may explain why low energy gravity is described by a Riemannian connection.
