Molecular Phylogeny and Estimated Time of Divergence in the Central European Melanopsidae: Melanopsis, Fagotia and Holandriana (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Cerithioidea)

Abstract: Three European melanopsids: Melanopsis parreyssii (Philippi, 1847) from Ochiul Mare (Romania), Fagotia acicularis (A. Férussac, 1828) from a spring near Crisul Negru (Romania), and Holandriana holandri (C. Pfeiffer, 1828) from Lake Skutari (Montenegro), as well as Melanopsis costata Oliver, 1804 from Iraq, are considered is this paper. Eight partial sequences of ribosomal 18S, and seven of mitochondrial COI were analysed. Maximum likelihood trees based on 18S confirm the placement of the Melanopsidae within the Cerithioidea, as well as the monophyly of the latter group. The COI-based tree confirms the placement of the Melanopsidae within the Cerithioidea, but does not confirm the monophyly of either Melanopsidae or Cerithioidea. The results suggest that Fagotia should be synonymised with Melanopsis, Holandriana is a distinct genus, and Melanopsis costata is not congeneric with M. parreyssii. The application of molecular clock, with one point calibration for COI for the Hydrobiidae, estimated the times of divergence as 2.53±0.56 Mya for M. parreyssii and F. acicularis, 9.49±1.67 Mya for M. parreyssii and H. holandri, and 10.71±1.88 Mya for F. acicularis and H. holandrii. 2.5 Mya coincides with the beginning of the glacial period in Europe, and 8-12 Mya was the time when Lake Pannon covered the largest area.
Bythinella hansboetersi Gl er et Pe i , 2006 (Gastropoda: Rissooidea) in Bulgaria: Its Morphology, Molecular Distinctness, and Phylogeography

Abstract: For five populations of Bythinella from Bulgaria the shell, penis, and female reproductive organs are figured and briefly described. 27 sequences of COI (mtDNA), and 14 of ITS-1 (rRNA) are used to infer phylogenetic relationships among the studied populations and five Central European Bythinella species. All five studied populations belong to the same species: B. hansboetersi Gl er et Pe i , 2006, which is morphologically and molecularly distinct from B. austriaca earlier reported from Bulgaria. NCA analysis for the COI data revealed a pattern of restricted gene flow with isolation by distance.

Abstract: The shell, penis, and female reproductive organs of six molecularly distinct Bythinella species from Romania are described. The species were found by the authors in their earlier study based on mt DNA COI, and rRNA ITS-1. None of the species is identical with B. austriaca (Frauenfeld, 1857). Two of them are identified as B. dacica Grossu, 1946 and B. molcsanyi H. Wagner, 1941. The other four species are described as new. The occurrence of B. melanostoma (Brancsik, 1889), and of B. austriaca ehrmanni Pax, 1938 in Romania is rejected. The sympatric occurrence of two species in four studied springs was stressed. The molecular distinctness of the studied species is not reflected in their morphology, the morphological differences are poorly marked, their variability ranges overlapping.
On the connections of the generalized entropies and Kolmogorov-Sinai entropies

Abstract: We consider the concept of generalized measure-theoretic entropy, where instead of the Shannon entropy function we consider an arbitrary concave function defined on the unit interval, vanishing in the origin. Under mild assumptions on this function we show that this isomorphism invariant is linearly dependent on the Kolmogorov-Sinai entropy.

Abstract: We consider an isomorphism invariant for measure-preserving systems - types of generalized entropy convergence rates. We show the connections of this invariant with the types of Shannon entropy convergence rates. In the case when they differ we show several facts for aperiodic, completely ergodic and rank one systems. We use this concept to distinguish some measure-preserving systems with zero entropy.

Abstract: Hoehn and Mouron [Ergod. Th. \& Dynam. Sys. (2014) \textbf{34}, 1897--1913] constructed a map on the universal dendrite that is topologically weakly mixing but not mixing. We modify the Hoehn-Mouron example to show that there exists a transitive (even weakly mixing) dendrite map with zero topological entropy. This answers the question of Baldwin [Topology (2001) \textbf{40}, 551--569].
Two results on entropy, chaos, and independence in symbolic dynamics

Abstract: We survey the connections between entropy, chaos, and independence in topological dynamics. We present extensions of two classical results placing the following notions in the context of symbolic dynamics: 1. Equivalence of positive entropy and the existence of a large (in terms of asymptotic and Shnirelman densities) set of combinatorial independence for shift spaces. 2. Existence of a mixing shift space with a dense set of periodic points with topological entropy zero and without ergodic measure with full support, nor any distributionally chaotic pair. Our proofs are new and yield conclusions stronger than what was known before.

Abstract: The work presents the possibility of substitution of expensive, wear resistant Co-WC powders, that have been traditionally used in the production of sintered diamond tools, with cheap iron-base counterparts manufactured by ball milling. It has been shown that ball-milled Fe-Ni-Cu-Sn-C powders can be consolidated to a virtually pore-free condition by hot pressing at 900 ℃. The as-consolidated material has nanocrystalline structure and is characterised by a combination of high hardness, mechanical strength and excellent resistance to abrasion. Its properties can be widely modified by changing the milling conditions.

Abstract:

The present situation in Poland and Europe, regarding electric power generation by source, is discussed in the paper. The results of the implementation of EU competitive-low-carbon economy policy in some most developed countries in the continent, have given already good experimental data for evaluation of this strategy. Analysis of the reports provided by official sources for Germany, Denmark and Finland is a base for EU energy policy evaluation. The combustion technologies will be a main energy sources for many years from now. Therefore effects of fossil fuels and biomass combustion on the environment are presented briefly. Finally, the developments regarding Polish Nuclear Energy Programme are overviewed.

Mathematical Model and Computational Analysis of Selected Transient States of Cylindrical Linear Induction Motor Fed via Frequency Converter

Abstract: The mathematical model of cylindrical linear induction motor (C-LIM) fed via frequency converter is presented in the paper. The model was developed in order to analyze numerically the transient states. Problems concerning dynamics of ac-machines especially linear induction motor are presented in [1 – 7]. Development of C-LIM mathematical model is based on circuit method and analogy to rotary induction motor. The analogy between both: (a) stator and rotor windings of rotary induction motor and (b) winding of primary part of C-LIM (inductor) and closed current circuits in external secondary part of C-LIM (race) is taken into consideration. The equations of C-LIM mathematical model are presented as matrix together with equations expressing each vector separately. A computational analysis of selected transient states of C-LIM fed via frequency converter is presented in the paper. Two typical examples of C-LIM operation are considered for the analysis: (a) starting the motor at various static loads and various synchronous velocities and (b) reverse of the motor at the same operation conditions. Results of simulation are presented as transient responses including transient electromagnetic force, transient linear velocity and transient phase current.
