O "bom aluno" nas representa??es sociais de professoras: o impacto da dimens?o familiar

Abstract: this article, part of a wider research, aimed to analyze the general content of the social representations of a "good student" constructed by teachers of early years of fundamental education in the city of recife-pe. the underlying assumption is that new social practices of education would be interfering in these representations. the central nucleus theory was the theoretical and methodological basis for this study. participants included twenty teachers. semi structured interviews were used as collection procedure. for analysis we took as support the technical analysis categorical content. the overall results of research confirmed our initial assumption, but pointed also competing for the symbolic construction of "good student "a tangle of elements, highlighting the family size. most teachers, articulating contradictions between ideology and reality, noted the importance of family in building the "good student". our results suggest, however, the need for studies to further investigate these findings.

Abstract: In this study is analyzed the core of social representations of the "good student" teachers of the early years of primary education in the municipal of Recife- PE. We assume that new educational practices would be interfering in the representations. The Theory of Central Nucleus was the reference guide in the study. Two hundred teachers participated. The Technique of Free Word Association Test and a central core were the instruments used. The EVOC software and content analysis supported the interpretation of data. The results confirmed the initial assumption and identified as the core of "good student" to be "interested". This component determines the organization of these representations and allows us to glimpse the polysemy underlying social and symbolic roots. These findings suggest that educational policies should not lose sight of the social representations of these professionals, but consider them as a starting point for their elaborations.

Abstract: hiper-homocysteinemia is an independent risk factor in the development of cardiovascular diseases and in the presence of other risk factors (rf) may bring about an additional risk for the occurrence of the event. serum dosages of homocysteine and creatinine in 146 patients (51 men and 95 women), registered at the hiperdia/ms program, all presenting three associated rf's; hypertension, smoking habit and family history for cardiovascular diseases. the general average has been 14.48 μmol/l ± 5,98 (15,38 μmol/l ±6,77 and 13,99 μmol/l ± 5,48, for men and women respectively). hiper-homocysteinemia had been present in 34.90% (39.20% and 32.60%, men and women, respectively), according to the reference interval between 5 - 15 μmol/l. although, according to homocysteine dach-liga recommendations, values between 12 - 30 μmol/l are considered being a moderate hiper-homocysteinemia. the study has revealed that 60.30% (70.60% and 54.70%, men and women, respectively) had been above 12 μmol/l. in the evaluation of the study, the serum dosage of homocysteine has to be performed in patients registered at the hiperdia/ms program for, besides being hypertense and/or diabetic, the presence of hiper-homocisteinemia may be an additional risk for the development of cardiovascular disease.
Microalbuminuria in White and Black Hypertensive Nondiabetic Brazilian Patients  [PDF]

Abstract: Microalbuminuria (MAU) is a predictor of cardiovascular mortality in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) and hypertension (HTN) and also in an unselected population. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) define MAU as an albumin/creatinine ratio (ACR) between 30 and 300 μg/mg in both men and women. Aim: To evaluate the possible relationship among MAU, HTN and gender and ethnicity in Brazilian nondiabetic primary hypertensive patients. Design: Population-based study. Participants: Ninety-eight men and women, seventy-two black and twenty-six white nondiabetic primary hypertensive patients aged 20 years or older were selected. Forty healthy individuals, paired according to age, gender, and ethnics were used as controls. Methods: Early-morning midstream urine was used. Urinary albumin was spectrophotometrically measured with Coomassie Brillant Blue G-250. Creatinine was determined by a method based on Jaffe’s reaction. ACR (μg albumin/mg creatinine) was calculated. Data are expressed as medians. Results: ACR level was significantly higher in 98 hypertensive patients (38.00) than in 40 control individuals (23.00) (P < 0.001). ACR level was significantly higher in 48 hypertensive male (46.00) than in 50 hypertensive female (34.00) (P = 0.008). No significant effect of ethnicity on ACR levels between 26 hypertensive Whites (35.50) and 72 hypertensive Blacks (38.00) was observed (P = 0.978). Conclusions: The ACR level, significantly higher in hypertensive patients than in control individuals, supports data from the literature. To our knowledge, this is the first study demonstrating that the ACR level is significantly higher in men than in women. The lack of an ethnicity effect supports what was already asserted, namely, that in Brazil, at an individual level, color, as determined by physical evaluation, is a poor predictor of genomic African ancestry, as estimated by molecular markers.

Abstract: This paper presents the trajectory of Portuguese female immigrants who came to the city of Sao Paulo in the last two decades of 20th century and records their surviving strategies, initially looking for work and subsequently as entrepreneurs in their own business: restaurants, travel agency, fado singer, and others. Its primary aim is to identify, from their narratives, the entrepreneurship level of these women and the capital stock equity of their ownership, use, and from which they could be able to develop over four decades living in this huge metropolis. In this context, it is also sought the way social networks supporting their arrival were accessed during their period adapting to the city and on performing their business ventures. The analytical and interpretative path from the face to face interviews with these Portuguese immigrants allows us to conclude that social capital is an extremely relevant resource to entrepreneurship.
Uso das interven es de enfermagem na prática clínica no Brasil

Abstract: Há um desafio mundial de universalizar a linguagem e evidenciar a prática de enfermagem. A Nursing InterventionsClassification (NIC) está sendo desenvolvida por pesquisadores do College of Nursing – The University of Iowa, EUA,com esse propósito. Este estudo teve por objetivo identificar o uso das interven es de enfermagem da NIC no Brasil,por meio de levantamento da freqüência de utiliza o das 486 interven es da NIC nas diversas especialidadesclínicas dos enfermeiros brasileiros. Trata-se de estudo descritivo, realizado no período de mar o a julho de 2006,com amostra de 222 enfermeiros. Para a coleta de dados foi utilizado um instrumento aplicado pelo grupo depesquisadores de Iowa. Para a análise dos dados foi utilizado um pacote estatístico. Um grau de concordancia de 70%foi considerado aceitável e as interven es centrais, consideradas como utilizadas diariamente ou semanalmente pelosenfermeiros foram identificadas. Os resultados mostraram que 77,7% das interven es NIC foram identificadas comoessenciais por enfermeiros de diferentes especialidades. As interven es mais freqüentes mostram a essência daprática clínica da enfermagem no Brasil e a aplicabilidade das interven es NIC à nossa realidade.

Abstract: The present work identifies and analyzes the affectivity in the initial series teachers’ vision. Itparts from the estimated that the interaction in social way, the feelings and affections influence the development ofthat individuals cognition. Vygotsky and Wallon, among other authors, bring important contributions to base thisquestion. The research was done through a questionnaire of seven questions to identify the teacher’s conceptionsabout affectivity. Eight initial series teachers had been interviewed, and, based in their answers and the theoreticalreferences, it was possible to detach the influence and relevance that the term has for learning. Conclusion: this question has much importance to good teacher/pupil relationship and for a good learning.O presente trabalho identifica e analisa a afetividade na vis o das docentes de séries iniciais. Parte dopressuposto de que a intera o no meio social, os sentimentos e afetos influenciam no desenvolvimento da cogni odo indivíduo. Vygotsky e Wallon, dentre outros autores, trazem importantes contribui es para fundamentar essaquest o. A pesquisa foi realizada através de um questionário de sete perguntas para identificar as concep es dasdocentes sobre o termo afetividade. Foram entrevistadas oito docentes de séries iniciais, e, com base em suasrespostas e nos referenciais teóricos, foi possível destacar a influência e relevancia que o termo possui em rela oà aprendizagem. Concluiu-se que esta quest o é de suma importancia para as docentes, e que é essencial um bom DOCENTESrelacionamento entre educador e educando para uma aprendizagem satisfatória.
Coffee and Caffeine Intake among Students of the Brazilian Northeast  [PDF]

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the pattern of intake of coffee and caffeine-containing food among students in a post-secondary institution in northeastern Brazil. We interviewed 498 students. Among these students, 72.3% (n = 360) reported to consume coffee, with a higher pre- valence among women (68.3%) and students aged between 18 and 25 years (82.8%). The student’s residence itself was the top location for taking coffee (90.6%) and the most widely used method of preparation was brewing coffee using a cloth filter (82.5%). The average intake of coffee was 199.0 ± 230.6 ml/day, with a frequency of 1.6 ± 1.4 times a day and concentration between 4% - 12%. Coffee was the main source of caffeine and the average daily intake of 147.3 ± 141.2 mg of caffeine was low. The data showed that the intake of coffee and caffeine does not represent a risk factor for the population studied. On the other hand, the scarcity of national studies on the subject points to the need of similar research about customer profile and pattern of consumption of coffee and caffeine, especially regarding the preparation technique of coffee, featuring benefits or risks for the development of chronic diseases.

Abstract: the premise of this text is to point out the imminent challenges for those who formulate and implement training projects for child education professionals, based on two of the several currents which support them. the first includes the group of factors that make up the present brazilian context in which projects are undertaken. the second, treats the conception of growth and child development from which comes the challenge to integrate the focus care/education, emphasizing a pedagogy based in child adult interaction, resulting in specific training themes. knowing of the force with which a caricatured model of schooling has been disseminated in the institutions that care for children from birth to 6 years of age, another challenge put to training projects is to form professionals able to integrate themselves into the educational systems and simultaneously to act in accord with care modalities consistent with the needs and characteristics of growth and development of babies and small children.
Cytotoxic effects of White-MTA and MTA-Bio cements on odontoblast-like cells (MDPC-23)

Abstract: this study evaluated the cytotoxic effects of 2 mineral trioxide aggregate (mta) cements - white-mta-angelus and a new formulation, mta-bio - on odontoblast-like cell (mdpc-23) cultures. twenty-four disc-shaped (2 mm diameter x 2 mm thick) specimens were fabricated from each material and immersed individually in wells containing 1 ml of dmem culture medium for either 24 h or 7 days to obtain extracts, giving rise to 4 groups of 12 specimens each: g1 - white-mta/24 h; g2 - white-mta/7 days; g3 - mta-bio/24 h; and g4 - mta-bio/7 days. plain culture medium (dmem) was used as a negative control (g5). cells at 30,000 cells/cm2 concentration were seeded in the wells of 24-well plates and incubated in a humidified incubator with 5% co2 and 95% air at 37oc for 72 h. after this period, the culture medium of each well was replaced by 1 ml of extract (or plain dmem in the control group) and the cells were incubated for additional 2 h. cell metabolism was evaluated by the mtt assay and the data were analyzed statistically by anova and tukey's test (α=0.05). cell morphology and the surface of representative mta specimens of each group were examined by scanning electron microscopy. there was no statistically significant difference (p>0.05) between g1 and g2 or between g3 and g4. no significant difference (p>0.05) was found between the experimental and control groups either. similar cell organization and morphology were observed in all groups, regardless of the storage periods. however, the number of cells observed in the experimental groups decreased compared to the control group. mta-bio presented irregular surface with more porosities than white-mta. in conclusion, white-mta and mta-bio presented low cytotoxic effects on odontoblast-like cell (mdpc-23) cultures.
