An update on immunosuppression for the HIV-positive kidney transplant recipient
Natário,Ana; Matias,Patrícia; Weigert,André;
Portuguese Journal of Nephrology & Hypertension , 2012,
Abstract: the outcome of human immunodeficiency virus (hiv)-positive patients has improved dramatically with the advent of combined antiretroviral therapy. the mortality rate for hiv-positive patients with chronic kidney disease stage 5 is now similar to those without hiv infection, making kidney transplantation an increasingly considered alternative treatment for end-stage renal disease in this population. knowledge of the pharmacokinetics of antiretroviral medications and potential drug-drug interactions between antiretroviral and immunosuppressive medications are critical to the success of transplantation in this setting. the aim of this article is to present the state of the art kidney transplant therapy in hiv-positive patients.

NewsPad: Designing for Collaborative Storytelling in Neighborhoods
J. Nathan Matias,Andrés Monroy-Hernández
Computer Science , 2015, DOI: 10.1145/2559206.2581354
Abstract: This paper introduces design explorations in neighborhood collaborative storytelling. We focus on blogs and citizen journalism, which have been celebrated as a means to meet the reporting needs of small local communities. These bloggers have limited capacity and social media feeds seldom have the context or readability of news stories. We present NewsPad, a content editor that helps communities create structured stories, collaborate in real time, recruit contributors, and syndicate the editing process. We evaluate NewsPad in four pilot deployments and find that the design elicits collaborative story creation.

Abstract: low glycemic index and low glycemic load diets have been associated with a reduced risk of certain chronic diseases. for this reason, there has been a growing interest in using these concepts' for nutritional assessment and diet prescription. however, the usage of published glycemic index and glycemic load data is limited, because of the variety of types and preparations of plant-source foods. since in vivo trials are difficult because of their cost labor-intense and time-consuming procedures, in vitro methods have been developed. these methods are based on the speed of digestion of the different carbohydrates, which allows the glycemic index of foods to be estimated in a practical, simple and cheap manner. this paper presents the use of an in vitro indicator, the hydrolysis index, to estimate the glycemic index and glycemic load. this method is the most commonly used glycemic load and index estimation method in brazil and this paper aims to promote its use among dieticians. the calculations and interpretations to estimate glycemic load and index are presented by means of a practical example using some brazilian staple foods and the amaranth grain processed in different ways. in the absence of data on the glycemic response of a particular food, the hydrolysis index can be used to estimate its glycemic index and load. however, the in vitro predictor cannot be used indiscriminately in substitution to glycemic index, since it takes into account only the intrinsic factors of foods that affect the glycemic response.

Abstract: A fragmenta o florestal afeta processosgenéticos populacionais como a deriva genética,o fluxo gênico e a reprodu o. Forest fragmentation affects populationgenetic processes such as random drift, gene flowand mating system. Studies comparing populationssituated at locations under different humandisturbance intensities are still scarce. Euterpeedulis Mart., a heart-of-palm, produces a largequantity of fruits, whi
BREEDING SOUNDNESS EVALUATION OF TWO AND THREE YEAR OLD NELORE (BOS TAURUS INDICUS) BULLS, RAISED UNDER PASTURE CONDITION CLASSIFICA O ANDROLóGICA POR PONTOS (CAP) DE TOUROS NELORE (Bos taurus indicus) DE DOIS E TRêS ANOS DE IDADE, CRIADOS SOB PASTEJO

Ciência Animal Brasileira , 2009,
Abstract: Data from 583 Nelore bulls, aging from two and three years old, raised under pasture condition, were used to study andrologic traits (physical aspects: motility and vigor; and morphologic: major and total defects of the semen) and testicular measurements (scrotal circumference - SC and testicular volume - TVOL) to establish a profile of andrologic classification for fertility (BSE). The animals were divided in two groups: young bulls (N = 345), with ages from 18 to 30 months (2 years old), and adult (N = 238), with ages from 31 to 42 months (3 years old). Differences were observed (p < 0.05) for body weight, SC, physical and morphologic characteristics of the semen and TVOL in the two year olds with BSE above and below 60 points. In the three years old bulls differences were observed (p < 0.05) for SC and physical and morphologic characteristics of the semen in bulls with BSE above and below 60 points. The results suggested that body weight and SC affected the reproductive condition of young Nelore bulls. SC and seminal traits were the determining factors in the selection for a better reproductive condition, showing the importance of semen analysis when evaluating bulls raised under pasture conditions. KEY WORDS: Andrology, breeding soundness evaluation, scrotal circumference, semen, zebu. Abstract: A constant-workspace algorithm has read-only access to an input array and may use only O(1) additional words of $O(\log n)$ bits, where $n$ is the size of the input. We assume that a simple $n$-gon is given by the ordered sequence of its vertices. We show that we can find a triangulation of a plane straight-line graph in $O(n^2)$ time. We also consider preprocessing a simple polygon for shortest path queries when the space constraint is relaxed to allow $s$ words of working space. After a preprocessing of $O(n^2)$ time, we are able to solve shortest path queries between any two points inside the polygon in $O(n^2/s)$ time.

Abstract: An s-workspace algorithm is an algorithm that has read-only access to the values of the input and only uses O(s) additional words of space. We give a randomized s-workspace algorithm for triangulating a simple polygon P of n vertices, for any $s \in {\Omega}(log n) \cap O(n)$. The algorithm runs in $O(n^2/s)$ expected time. We also extend the approach to compute other similar structures such as the shortest-path map (or tree) of any point $p \in P$ , or how to partition P using only diagonals of the polygon so that the resulting sub-polygons have {\Theta}(s) vertices each.
