Abstract: objective: to assess the effect of endogenous estrogens on the bioavailability of nitric oxide (·no) and in the formation of lipid peroxidation products in pre- and postmenopausal women. methods: nox and s-nitrosothiols were determined by gaseous phase chemiluminescence, nitrotyrosine was determined by elisa, cox (cholesterol oxides) by gas chromatography, and cholesteryl linoleate hydroperoxides (ce18:2-ooh), trilinolein (tg18:2-ooh), and phospholipids (pc-ooh) by hplc in samples of plasma. results: the concentrations of nox, nitrotyrosine, cox, ce18:2-ooh, and pc-ooh were higher in the postmenopausal period (33.8±22.3 mm; 230±130 nm; 55±19 ng/ml; 17±8.7 nm; 2775±460 nm, respectively) as compared with those in the premenopausal period (21.1±7.3 mm; 114±41 nm; 31±13 ng/ml; 6±1.4 nm; 1635±373 nm). in contrast, the concentration of s-nitrosothiols was lower in the postmenopausal period (91±55 nm) as compared with that in the premenopausal p in the premenopausal period (237±197 nm). conclusion: in the postmenopausal period, an increase in nitrotyrosine and a reduction of s-nitrosothiol formation, as well as an increase of cox, ce18:2-ooh and pc-ooh formation occurs. therefore, ?no inactivation and the increase in lipid peroxidation may contribute to endothelial dysfunction and to the greater risk for atherosclerosis in postmenopausal women.
Surgery for Acute Complicated Tracheal Stenosis  [PDF]

Open Journal of Thoracic Surgery (OJTS) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ojts.2012.23013
Abstract: Tracheal stenosis is a serious, life-threatening disease with increasing incidence. Among these stenoses, the number of complicated tracheal lesions, where a resection and anastomosis is not successful or not applicable, is also increasing significantly. These acute situations often need to be managed by a combined surgical technique. The present paper is dedicated to this topic; the management of combined surgical and endoscopic technique in case of complicated long tracheal stenosis.

The effects of labour force migration in Romania to the comunity countries -realities and perspectives
Szarka Arpad
Annals of the University of Oradea : Economic Science , 2008,
Abstract: Nowadays, the migration of active labour force is a phenomenon with a rapid dynamics, generated mainly by globalization. The international migration is appreciated to imply about 200 million persons, which is double than 25 years ago. .The migration is determined by economical, social and political causes. .The migration of active labour force in Romania registered in the Community Countries reaches low levels, about 200.000 person, but the illegal one is appreciated to reach 1.7-2 milion persons. The effects of migration are mainly due to: the loss of the tax payer – active labour force formed in Romania, the weakening of the social solidarity in the social security system, and in the same time, its increase in the destination countries , the remittance of some important amounts of money in the origin countries, the contact with other economical, social, cultural models. The evolution of remittance in the world is very dynamic, in 2007 it is said to be about 250 billion dollars ,from which 7,1 billion euro for our country, compared to 9,1 billion euro representing direct investments.
Resenha: A review of the influence of long-term patterns in research and technological development (R&D) formalisation on university-industry links
André Luiz de Campos
Revista Brasileira de Inova??o , 2010,
Abstract: Interest has been growing in the study of the role played by university-industry links in the development and strengthening of economic systems. It is commonly agreed that university-industry links play a crucial role in the economy, and many studies have examined the fac-tors that in uence their occurrence. Two sets of factors can be identi ed from these studies: demand-side factors (i.e. relating to industry) and supply-side factors (i.e. relating to universi-ties). This paper reviews the literature covering these issues, concentrating on the in uence of long-term patterns in R&D formalisation on university-industry links. This is done for selected advanced and late-industrialising countries. The literature reviewed indicated that, in advanced countries, university-industry links become more varied as R&D becomes formalised. In late industrialising countries, university-industry links become more intense as R&D becomes formalised.
A autonomia do direito como imanência interdisciplinar: reflex es a partir da querela entre Gustav Hugo e Hegel = The autonomy of law as interdisciplinary immanence: reflections from the Hegel-Hugo debate
Campos, André Santos
Veritas , 2011,
In the debate between the Historische Rechtschule (Hugo and Savigny) and Hegel about who is legitimately entitled to develop legal theory, the former considered philosophy of law to be inherent to systematic science of law, whereas the latter considered the concept of Law in a necessary transdisciplinary dialectic – there would then be a difference between ‘the jurists’ philosophy of law’ and ‘the philosophers’ philosophy of law’. I will demonstrate that such distinction cannot stand. A ‘jurists’ philosophy of law’ does not exist precisely because legal norms and their application are merely one of the law’s moments. The law’s attitude is one of inclusion: philosophy of law’s disciplinary autonomy occurs in the law’s interdisciplinary immanence.

Abstract: malaria-control policies enforced at us military bases set up in brazil during world war ii serve as an example in this analysis of the associations between disease and war. case studies of the three main us bases (located in belém, recife, and natal) show how malaria can be transformed into a matter of political-military security. an examination of the natal case allows the reader to perceive the prejudices, political mistrust, and nationalistic tensions marking relations between the brazilians and americans.
