Abstract: the choice of substrate is one of the most important stages for the seedlings production and must take into account the nutritional requirements of cultivated species. thus, the objective was to evaluate the substrate using coconut dust associated with nutrient solutions to produce seedlings of watermelon. the experiment was carried out at embrapa semi-arid in petrolina, pernambuco state, brazil, in a greenhouse in a completely randomized design with ten replications in a factorial arrangement 2 x 10 (cultivars of watermelon and substrates). the cultivars used were: opara and top gun. the coconut fiber was associated with nutrient solutions as follows: t1= control treatment composed of the commercial organic substrate plantmax? (sc), t2= coconut powder (pc), t3= coconut powder + melon solution (pc+sm), t4= coconut powder + solution of hoagland and arnon 12.5% (12.5% pc+hs), t5= coconut powder + solution of hoagland and arnon 25% (pc+hs 25%), t6= coconut powder + solution of hoagland and arnon 50% (pc+hs 50%), t7= coconut powder + solution of hoagland and arnon 75% (pc+hs 75%), t8= coconut powder + solution of hoagland and arnon 100% (100% pc+hs), t9= coconut powder + aminoagro mol (pc+am), t10= coconut powder aminoagro root (pc+ar). the solutions were applied eight times, 10 ml on each application, since the fourth day after sowing date (das), when the evaluation of seedlings emergence began. at 24 das we evaluated the fresh weight of shoots and roots, root length, number of roots in the upper third and contents of macro and micronutrients in the aboveground part. the cv. top gun presented higher levels of nutrients, except for iron and copper. the treatments t6, t7 and t8 presented levels of nutrients in plants similar to the commercial substrate plantmax. in general, the combinations of coconut dust associated with the nutrient solution of hoagland and arnon at 50, 75 and 100% and aminoagro root proved to be promising for the formation of watermelon seedlings on t

Abstract: the experiment was carried out in petrolina, pernambuco state, brazil, from september to december 2007, to evaluate the agronomic performance and fruit quality of watermelon cultivated under different planting densities. three planting spaces and six cultivars were evaluated, where two cultivars were of yellow pulp (brs soleil and brs kuarah), two cultivars were triploid (triploid hybrid cpatsa and extasy seedless) and two cultivars were commercial, of small fruits (smile and sugar baby). the experimental design was a randomized block with a factorial scheme with three replications. there were evaluated two harvest moments for the triploid hybrid cpatsa and extasy seedless: 68 das (days after sowing) and 82 das. the first and second harvests of the other cultivars were carried out at 63 and 77 das, respectively. we evaluated the fresh weight of the aerial part (g), average fruit weight (g), commercial and non-commercial fruits yield (g), fruit diameter (cm), fruit length (cm), rind thickness (cm), total solid content (ss), titratable acidity (ta), the ratio between ss/ta and flesh firmness. the variance analyses were done by the f test and the means were compared by the tukey test at 5%. different spacing did not affect the fruit quality, so that higher density of plants proportioned higher yields.

Fisioterapia e Pesquisa , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1809-29502008000400013
Abstract: the aim of this study was to assess prevalence of temporomandibular disorders (tmd) signs and symptoms in non-patients from different brazilian geographic areas. questionnaires were applied to 2,396 college students, of which 73.7% were women (aged 21±5) and 26.3% men (aged 22±4). once severity levels were classified, data were statistically treated, and significance level set at 5%. greater percentage of tmd signs and symptoms was found in women (73.03%) than among men. no significant differences between percentages of students with moderate and severe signs and symptoms were found in central-west region - where chances of finding male students with severe tmd signs and symptoms are higher than in any other region. in the south was found the greatest percentage of students with some tmd signs and symptoms, but with lesser severity than in other regions. in the northeast and the south there are higher chances of finding male rather than female students without tmd signs and symptoms. in all brazilian regions there were more non-patient students with some severity level of tmd signs and symptoms than without them. different regions present different probabilities of finding students with tmd signs and symptoms.

Brazilian Journal of Physical Therapy , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-35552011000300006
Abstract: background: hip and knee muscle weaknesses have been associated with the onset of anterior knee pain (akp). therefore, the understanding of how squats exercises can be performed in order to optimize the electrical activity of these muscles is relevant for physical therapy treatments. objective: to compare the electromyographic activity of patella and pelvic stabilizers during traditional squat and squat associated with isometric hip adduction or abduction in subjects without akp. methods: electromyography signals were captured using double-differential electrodes at the vastus medialis obliquus (vmo), vastus lateralis obliquus (vlo), vastus lateralis longus (vll) and gluteus medium (gmed) in 15 healthy and sedentary women during squats exercises: traditional and associated with hip adduction and hip abduction with load of 25% of body weight. linear mixed models with significance level of 5% were used for data analysis. results: squat associated with hip adduction and abduction produced electromyographic activity of gmed of 0.47 (0.2) and 0.59 (0.22) respectively, while conventional squat produced an electromyiographic activity of 0.33 (0.27). the higher vmo activity was 0.59 (0.27) during the isometric contraction in the squat associated with hip adduction. the higher vlo activity was 0.60 (0.32) during isometric contraction in the squat associated with hip abduction. conclusion: squat exercise associated with hip adduction increased vmo muscle activity as well as the activity of gmed activity.
Hydrodynamic scaling limit of continuum solid-on-solid model
Anamaria Savu
Journal of Applied Mathematics , 2006, DOI: 10.1155/jam/2006/69101
Abstract: A fourth-order nonlinear evolution equation is derived from a microscopic model for surface diffusion, namely, the continuum solid-on-solid model. We use the method developed by Varadhan for the computation of the hydrodynamic scaling limit of nongradient models. What distinguishes our model from other models discussed so far is the presence of two conservation laws for the dynamics in a nonperiodic box and the complex dynamics that is not nearest-neighbor interaction. Along the way, a few steps have to be adapted to our new context. As a byproduct of our main result, we also derive the hydrodynamic scaling limit of a perturbation of the continuum solid-on-solid model, a model that incorporates both surface diffusion and surface electromigration.

Kultur og kommunikation: den n dvendige teori
Anamaria Fadul
MedieKultur : Journal of Media and Communication Research , 1994,
S o Paolo: Loyola/Intercom.
