Abstract: This paper used Granger causality test method to analyze regional GDP growth in the domestic and regional freight turnover. And this paper used logistic model to analyze the reasons that regional logistics promote Anhui economic growth. Through the analysis that find Anhui economic growth on the leading role of regional logistics is not obvious. This showed that the role of regional logistics in promoting economic growth in Anhui Province has not been fully played out, which was not showing a good momentum of development co-ordination. So logistics will play an active role in the economy of Anhui province in the future.

Abstract: In this paper we examine the large deviations principle (LDP) for sequences of classic Cramér-Lundberg risk processes under suitable time and scale modifications, and also for a wide class of claim distributions including (the non-super- exponential) exponential claims. We prove two large deviations principles: first, we obtain the LDP for risk processes on D[0,1] with the Skorohod topology. In this case, we provide an explicit form for the rate function, in which the safety loading condition appears naturally. The second theorem allows us to obtain the LDP for Aggregate Claims processes on D[0,) with a different time-scale modification. As an application of the first result we estimate the ruin probability, and for the second result we work explicit calculations for the case of exponential claims.
Somatic Condition, Growth and Reproduction of Hake, Merluccius merluccius L., in the Portuguese Coast  [PDF]

Weight/length relationships, condition factor, gonadosomatic and hepatosomatic indices, conversion factor for gutted to total weight and spawning season of hake in the Portuguese Coast (36.92 to 42.22 degrees latitude N; 9.61 to 6.07 degrees longitude W) were investigated for the first time, aiming to fill the lack of information on the biology of hake of the Portuguese waters. Data were obtained from commercial samples collected between 2005 and 2010 and pooled by month. Sex ratio observed in fish below 40 cmwas close to 1:1; females were always dominant above50 cmlength. All the parameters were analysed by month and by sex and by combined sexes. The relationships obtained for combined sexes for the entire period concerning the growth in length and weight were: total length-total weight =0.0038L3.172, total length-gutted weight =0.0052L3.059. The relationship total weight-gutted weight was Wt = 15.8112 + 0.8480Wg and the conversion factor was of 1.1524. The growth rate is similar for both sexes but different when based on total weight or gutted weight. The analysis of the condition factor, gonadosomatic index, hepatosomatic index and the monthly distribution of the maturity stages seem to indicate that hake from thePortugueseCoasthas a long spawning season, with three spawning peaks in March, May and August but the start of the spawning season seems independent of the fish length.


Spacial and Temporal Variation of Degradation of Organic Matter by Benthic Macroinvertebrates  [PDF]

Leaf litter input from riparian landscapes has been identified as both a major energy flow to stream ecosystems and as a food source for stream macroinvertebrates. In this study the benthic macroinvertebrate community was used to evaluate the decomposition of organic matter in river systems. The aim of this work was to study the decomposition of organic matter using the benthic macroinvertebrate colonization. The research was developed over five months (January 2011 to May 2011) in four different sites, distributed along the River Ferreira terminal area, northern Portugal. A litter bag experiment was used to examine the role of macroinvertebrate communities in the processing of organic material on the river. Litter bags were placed in the water and collected every 7, 15, 30, 60, 90 and 120 days. In litter bags was observed a high abundance of Oligochaeta and Chironomidae, which are characterized by being detritivorous-herbivores and filtering collectors, respectively, indicating the benthic macroinvertebrate more involved on the decomposition of organic matter. These results contributed to increase current knowledge about benthic macroinvertebrate communities and may serve as incentive for future research works.

Teaching with an Attitude: Finding Ways to the Conundrum of a Postmodern Curriculum  [PDF]

Abstract: Several scholars in the field of education have questioned the constituent aspects of a curriculum that would better respond to the rising demands in contemporary societies. The relevance of such enquiry finds its place in the very transformations in today’s societies marked by significant changes in the ways of knowing, being, and acting primarily due to the advent of new digital media in more recent globalizing processes. As Burke (2009) has stated, if schools wish to maintain their relevance in society, they must take into account such changes by first and foremost acknowledging the new and complex ways of making meanings in out-of-school literacy practices as equally legitimating those happening within school contexts. Along with Burke (ibid.), this paper advocates the need of rethinking the notion of curriculum in the light of the new ontologies and epistemologies of postmodernity. Such task proves itself to be a conundrum inasmuch as the very notion of curriculum has been traditionally founded on modern principles such as linearity, stability, and universality (Silva, 2009). In view of this, how can educators respond to the challenge of redefining what should be taught in schools in postmodern times so that students would better perform in relation to the self and the other within their social practices? This paper aims to analyse the relationship between postmodern philosophical concepts, curriculum theory and educational practice by presenting the notion of curricular attitude (Duboc, 2012) as a local redesign of teaching practices within a Brazilian educational context. Despite being situated in the field of foreign language teaching, the notion of a curricular attitude might be of interest of other areas of knowledge since it seeks to revisit teaching practices in the light of wider philosophical concerns.
Patient State Index Detects Changes in Cerebral Blood Flow and May Predict New Ischemic Lesions during Carotid Stenting—Case Report  [PDF]

Abstract: Carotid angioplasty and stenting (CAS) was developed to be a less invasive and complex procedure compared to carotid endarterectomy (CEA). It has emerged as an alternative for patients who are considered to have high surgical risks due to medical comorbidities or anatomical high-risk features [1]. The procedure is usually done under local anesthesia with light sedation, with the subsequent expectation of less neurologic injury, venous thromboembolisms, and myocardial infarctions—all well-known clinical risks of undergoing surgical procedures under general anesthesia. CAS, however, carries some increased risks of arterial dissection, dislocation of atherothrombotic debris and embolization to the brain or eye, late embolization due to thrombus formation on the damaged plaque, and bradycardia and hypotension as a result of carotid sinus stimulation. Electroencephalography can detect cerebral ischemia and hypoxia along with measuring hypnotic effects, but has not been reported to be used during CAS to signal impending neurological deficit and allow for intervention to prevent stroke. We report on the use of patient state index (PSI), an electroencephalographic (EEG) derived variable used by SEDLine monitor (Masimo Inc., San Diego, CA) to monitor changes in cerebral blood flow during carotid angioplasty and stenting in an awake patient under local anesthesia. PSI was developed to measure the level of hypnosis and sedation during anesthesia and in the ICU. The PSI is based on quantitative electroencephalogram features, recorded from anterior and posterior scalp sites, as input to a multivariate algorithm that quantifies the most probable level of anesthesia or sedation. The PSI is reported as a range from 0 to 100, with decreasing values indicating increasing levels of anesthesia or sedation. Adequate depth of anesthesia is reflected by PSI value of 25 - 50, and a fully awake state by a PSI of 100 [2]. Other EEG analysis techniques have been explored to detect changes in cerebral blood flow during carotid surgery [3], such as entropy described by Khan and Ozcan in his recent work entitled Disagreement in Bilateral State Entropy Values in Carotid Artery Disease [4], but there are no previous reports of the use of PSI during procedural sedation in carotid angioplasty and stenting in an awake patient.

Abstract: Protecting groundwater from lead contamination is an important public-health concern and a major national environmental issue worldwide. This article addresses myGeoffice Web Internet service for geographers, in general, and geo-statistics researchers, in particular, with the famous water contamination case at Jura lake, Switzerland (a typical rural-urban region). Based on 189 samples of lead (Pb), five key investigation steps for a scientific perspective of any pollution incident are presented: Descriptive analysis (including nearest neighborhood, G(h) and Kernel techniques), spatial autocorrelation (Moran location scatterplot and Moran I) and Ordinary Kriging (OK) interpolation. The uncertainty and cost assessments issues are exceptionally tackled with Indicator Kriging (including the conditional cumulative distribution function, Shannon local entropy, probabilistic intervals and E-type estimation) and Gaussian geo-simulation. The total lead pollution exhibited patterns of high and low levels of concentrations along the all lake, leading to the conclusion that water is unsuitable for human consumption, in general, and unsuitable for any living organism, in particular sub-areas. It is also hoped that future GIS readers will follow this approach for their spatial cases with myGeoffice.
New Insights into the p38 and p38 MAPK Pathways

Abstract: The mammalian p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) family is composed of four members (p38α, p38β, p38γ, and p38δ), which are very similar in amino acid sequence but differ in their expression patterns. This suggests that they may have specific functions in different organs. In the last years most of the effort has been centred on the study of the function of the p38α isoform, which is widely referred to as p38 in the literature. However, the role that other p38 isoforms play in cellular functions and their implication in some of the pathological conditions have not been precisely defined so far. In this paper we highlight recent advances made in defining the functions of the two less studied alternative p38MAPKs, p38γ and p38δ. We describe that these p38MAPKs show similarities to the classical p38α isoform, although they may play central and distinct role in certain physiological and pathological processes.

LC-MS/MS Analysis of albendazole and its metabolites in animal tissues

Abstract: Treating the animals with veterinary medicines raise the issue of residues that can persist in their edible tissues. In order to establish the withdrawal time necessary for depletion of the residues to sufficiently low concentration not to affect human health, biological tests performed on animals implicitly involve the use ofsensitive and reliable analytical methods for residues determination.The aim of this work was to establish and validate a sensitive and reliable method for simultaneous determination of albendazole and its metabolites, albendazole sulfoxide, albendazole sulfone and 2-aminoalbendazole sulfone in animal tissues by LC/MS/MS. The method involves acid hydrolysis with 6N HCl in order to release most residues, in particular the bound metabolite 2-amino-albendazole sulfone especially from liver, followed by extraction with ethyl acetate and solid phase clean-up of the extract on a C18 SPE cartridge. The liquid chromatographic separation was achieved on a XTerra MS C18 column (10 cm x 2,1mm, 3,5μm), with gradient elution of 0,1 % formic acid – methanol. Detection was performed by mass spectrometry in ESI+ mode. The limits of quantification were lower than 4 μg/ml for each component. The correlation coefficients (R2) of the calibration curves (in the range from 0,01 μg/ml to 0,5 μg/ml) were higher then 0,9935. The relative standard deviations of repetability on samples naturaly contaminated from treated animals were between 5,75% and 11,6%. Recoveries from fortified muscles in the range of 10 μg/kg to 100 μg/kg were between 70,2% and 88%with relativ standard deviation of 5,4%-12,2%. For liver fortified in the range of 100 μg/kg to 1000 μg/kg recoveries between 70,3% and 83,2% were obtained with relative standard deviation of 5,7%-11%.
