Open Journal of Nursing (OJN) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ojn.2013.38076

Last decade, the geography of immigration in Portugal experienced intense transformations with an increasing inflow of new and diversified migratory groups. An open questionnaire was developed and applied to 22 Portuguese nurses, aiming to analyse personal experiences and significant situations of nursing care in multicultural contexts. The understanding of hospital routines, difficulties in managing physical space due to different cultural standards, body exposure, and body handling in nursing clinical care, emerged as more significant issues in reports of critical incidents focusing on multicultural contexts.

André Vieira Sonoda, Ana Paula Furtado Soares Pontes
Creative Education (CE) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2018.916212
Abstract: It presents partial results of a research project about acoustic-structural influences on Brazilian education based in the analysis of Campus I of the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB) in 2016 beyond literature related to the theme in other Brazilian states. It pretends to call attention to the fact that diverse inappropriate acoustic-structural aspect of classrooms and academic environments can generate damage to the educational process and health. The methodology is based on bibliographic analyses and acoustic evaluate of academic environments. The results suggest pedagogical losses in the sense of insufficient school development, possibilities of health problems besides irreparable hearing loss, aspects incompatibles with cognitive activities, improvement of the quality of life and educational development. It is concluded that the architectural and acoustic-structural aspects of projects related to classrooms and school structures need alterations that permit better quality of life for professionals and students, appropriated conditions for the educational process and improvement of academic performance.

Ana Paula Monteiro Gomides, Simone Appenzeller, Gecilmara Pileggi, Licia Maria Henrique da Mota
Advances in Infectious Diseases (AID) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/aid.2019.91001
Abstract: Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and lupus erythematosus are multisystem diseases that can affect several organs and systems at different stages of disease evolution. Both diseases share common clinical manifestations, which may lead to diagnostic difficulties, especially at the onset of the disease. Another additional challenge is when there is an association of the two pathologies. The objective of this brief review is to describe the clinical manifestations of the diseases and to make considerations regarding the moment of onset of symptoms. Knowledge of these common manifestations and their peculiarities may alert clinicians to possible diagnoses and avoid errors in the evaluation and conduction of these patients.

Matos, Ana Paula Soares de;Machado, Ana Cláudia Cardoso;
Psicologia USP , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-65642008000300008
Abstract: in a sample of 50 asthmatic patients, either hospitalised or outpatients, we studied the relationships between dysfunctional cognitions related to asthma and other psychological variables (emotions and behaviours) traditionally studied in cognitive-behaviour models, using specific measurement instruments of these variables for the asthmatic disease. the obtained results suggest that dysfunctional cognitions related to asthma are predictive of problematic behaviours/emotions that occur before, during and after asthmatic crises. they suggest that dysfunctional cognitions are predictive of higher “panic/fear” symptomatology and of more negative attitudes towards asthmatic disease and treatment.

Matos, Ana Paula Soares de;Machado, Ana Cláudia Cardoso;
Psicologia: Teoria e Pesquisa , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-37722007000200004
Abstract: bronchial asthma is a complex disease and it brings limitations to patients' quality of life. in this research we intend to study the relationship of sociodemographic (gender, age and educational level), medical (severity of the disease, duration and clinical type) and psychological variables (cognitions, emotions and behaviour) with patients' quality of life. fifty asthmatic patients from the department of pulmonary medicine and immunoallergic diseases of coimbra's university hospitals completed five self-report questionnaires that measured the psychological variables under study. medical data were also collected. our results suggest that quality of life is related to a set of variables that can be named as biopsychosocial (e.g., a poor quality of life is related to a higher age, lower level of education, a more negative attitude towards asthma, named "stigma", disfunctional cognitions and behavioural/emotional problems associated to asthma). implications in relation with the treatment are also presented.
O momento da saída do abrigo por causa da maioridade: a voz dos adolescentes
Ana Laura Moraes Martinez,Ana Paula Soares-Silva
