Materials Sciences and Applications (MSA) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/msa.2014.513094
Abstract: In the present work, rheological properties of HDPE samples were measured at temperatures of 150°C, 190°C and 230°C. It was shown, by oscillatory tests, at low frequencies, that, for temperatures of 150°C and 190°C, there was a predominance of the viscous behavior over the elastic one. At 230°C, there was a predominance of the elastic contribution, and there was an increase of the molar mass compared with the ones obtained from the tests at 150°C and 190°C. The results obtained from the temperature ramp oscillatory test showed that, up to around 248°C, the viscous behavior prevailed, the opposite being observed at higher temperatures. At 230°C the sample showed significantly lower values of strain when compared with the ones observed at 150°C and 190°C. Oxidative induction time (OIT), melting point and degree of crystallinity were determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The DSC results and the rheological measurements showed a completely different behavior for the HDPE samples at 230°C compared with the 150°C and the 190°C ones, suggesting that HDPE, at the temperature of 230°C, underwent thermo-oxidative degradation with the initial predominance of crosslinking.

Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2014.512110
Abstract:

In this work, a rheological study of automotive lubricant oils, neutral light paraffinic (NLP) and neutral medium paraffinic (NMP), additivated with two commercial viscosity index improvers-VIIs, based on hydrogenated poly (isoprene-co-styrene), at different concentrations, was carried out. The study included the determination of the kinematic viscosity of the mixtures, the calculation of the viscosity indexes and their behavior when subjected to various rheometric experiments, including stress sweep, steady state flow, creep and recovery, and temperature ramp oscillatory tests. The obtained results showed the efficacy of the additives as viscosity index improvers, enabling a significant increase in the viscosity index of the pure oils at relatively low concentrations. The determination of the storage (G’) and of the loss (G”) moduli for the mixtures oil/VII additives showed a large predominance of the viscous effect over the elastic one. Except when under low shear stress, the mixtures showed a pseudoplastic behavior, with the flow curves being adjusted to fit the Ostwald-de-Waele model (Power Law), with negative flow behavior indexes.

A enzima MAO degrada a DMT no fígado e intestino. Dimetiltriptamina. Carbolinas. ABSTRACT Ayahuasca: a review of pharmacological and toxicological aspects Ayahuasca (or caapi in Brazil) is a psychoactive plant beverage initially used by shamans in religious rituals practiced by indigenous peoples in the Amazon region. It is prepared by infusing the pounded stems of Banisteriopsis caapi Morton, a liana which contains betacarbolines, alkaloids that are potent monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors, together with the leaves of Psychotria viridis Ruiz & Pavón, which contains the psychedelic agent N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT). The enzyme MAO normally degrades DMT in the liver and gut. In Brazil, the use of ayahuasca within religious ceremonies is protected by law and it has been incorporated into rituals of syncretic religious groups. Some of these groups have established themselves in the United States and European countries, attracting international research interest in the effects of ayahuasca. Studies suggest that it may have therapeutic applications, such as in the treatment of drug addiction, and that it can be used safely by healthy adults. However, too few studies have been performed for a good assessment of its properties to be made. The aim of this article is to present a review of the history of ayahuasca, up to the recent discoveries concerning its pharmacology and toxicology. Keywords: Ayahuasca. Hallucinogens. Dimethyltryptamine. Carbolines.

Abstract:

Aims and Objectives: To analyze the evidence available in the literature on the stages during which upper limb lymphedema after mastectomy occurs. Background: Among the adverse effects of breast cancer treatment, lymphedema is the most prevalent. Design: Integrative literature review. Methods: The Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde—LILACS), PubMed, and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) databases were used to select the pertinent studies. The identification data for these studies were summarized, and their methodological features and results were extracted. Results: Regarding the time elapsed since surgery, the highest prevalence of lymphedema corresponded to the late postoperative period, and regarding its severity, mild lymphedema was the most prevalent form. The prevalence was also the highest among the women who were subjected to radical mastectomy and radiotherapy. Conclusions: Many women who are undergoing treatment for breast cancer use strategies for the prevention and control of lymphedema of the upper limb following mastectomy. Relevance to Clinical Practice: The findings of the present study might inform future studies aiming to assess strategies that can be started in the immediate and late postoperative stages to detect lymphedema early and prevent the increase of its prevalence during the late postoperative period after mastectomy.

RGO : Revista Gaúcha de Odontologia , 2009,
Abstract: Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the bond strength of adhesive systems to dentin contaminated by temporary cements with or without eugenol. Method: Flat dentin surfaces were obtained from twenty-four human third molars. With exception of the control group (n=8), the surfaces were covered with Interim Restorative Material (Caulk Dentsplay, Milford, DE, USA) or Cavit (3M ESPE, St. Paul, MN, USA) and kept in an oven at 37oC for seven days. After removing the cements, the adhesive systems Adper Single Bond (3M ESPE, St. Paul, MN, USA) or Clearfil SE Bond (Kuraray Co. Ltd., Osaka, Japan) were applied in accordance with the manufacturers’ recommendations, and then the crowns were constructed in of resin composite. The teeth were sectioned into specimens with a cross-sectional bond area of 0.81mm2, which were sub mitted to microtensile testing in a mechanical test machine at an actuator speed of 0.5mm/min. The data were analyzed by t- and ANOVA tests, complemented by Tukey tests (α=0.05). Results: For Adper Single Bond (3M ESPE, St. Paul, MN, USA), bond strength did not differ statistically (p>0.05) for all the experimental conditions. For Clearfil SE Bond (Kuraray Co. Ltd., Osaka, Japan), only the Interim Restorative Material (Caulk Dentsplay, Milford, DE, USA) Group showed significantly lower bond strength (30.1±13.8 MPa) in comparison with the other groups; control (38.9±13.5 MPa) and Cavit (3M ESPE, St. Paul, MN, USA) (42.1±11.0 MPa), which showed no significant difference between them. Conclusion: It was concluded that the previous covering of dentin with temporary cement containing eugenol had a deleterious effect on the adhesive performance of the self-etching system only.

Einstein (S?o Paulo) , 2010,
Abstract: Objectives: To evaluate the neuropsychomotor development of children treated in an outpatient clinic, using the Denver Developmental Screening Test II (DDST-R). Methods: This was an exploratory descriptive research using a quantitative approach, conducted in the outpatient clinic of the Project Einstein in the Community of Paraisopolis (PECP), S o Paulo, Brazil. The sample consisted of 35 children, from birth to 6 years of age, most of them from 1 to 3 years old (19; 54.3%). They underwent the Denver II Test, which assesses four neuropsychomotor development areas: gross motor, fine motor adaptive, language and personal-social. Results: Most of the children (24, 68.6%) had test results compatible with normal development, while 10 (28.6%) had a “risk” test and 1 (2.9%) was “untestable” due to refusal to carry out the proposed activities. As to the items evaluated in each area, 7 children (20%) showed a developmental “delay” (when the child does not perform the activity passed by more than 90% of the children of his/her age) and 18 (51%) required “attention” (when the child does not perform the activity passed by 75 to 90% of the children of his/her age), predominantly in the language area. Conclusions: Although most of the children (68.6%) presented normal development in the test, we point out that in the remaining children (31.4%), the number of items classified as “delay” or “attention”, and tests classified as “risk” or “untestable” suggest impairment in neuropsychomotor development. We underscore the importance of the routine administration of the DDST-R for an early detection of developmental disabilities and thus establish primary prevention programs.
