Abstract: the first part of this article assesses the importance of periodization in history; followed by an analysis of the different types of periodization as defined by the most popular publications within the field: molina (1961); frank and elizondo (1961); jamieson, sewall y suhrie (1968); verderese (1980); eseverri chaverri (1984); martínez et al. (1985); ávila (1986); donahue (1985-1993); collière (1993); velandia (1994, 1995 y 2005); hernández conesa (1995); aramayo (1997); pérez gonzález (1997); siles (1999); garcía y martínez (2001); sánchez pu?ales (2002); benavent, ferrer y francisco del rey (2003), ancheta niebla (2004). the main objective of this article is to discover both the externalist and internalist approaches underlying an author?s decision to create or use a particular type of periodization. the secondary objective is to introduce or rediscover publications about history of nursing, from unknown authors.

Abstract: first, the relation between science and technology is shown, and then between profession and discipline. second, aspects that characterize the practice of a discipline and professionalization indicators are analyzed. afterwards, the role of publishing in the evolution of knowledge is discussed since the university is a very important arena where research is developed and how it plays a role in the evolution of knowledge. national science and technology indicators are used to analyze researchers and research groups. the "why one should publish in nursing?" question is also addressed and the topic of how to publish in scientific magazines is mentioned as well. finally there are some reflections on the central topic based in the author′s experience.

Abstract: this analysis of the accounts and iconographic production of german travelers wied-neuwied (1815-1817), karl friedich von martius (1817-1820), and johann moritz rugendas (1822-1825) explores the construction of an imagination about indigenous peoples, history, and nation. it shows the relationship between the ideas and images produced by these voyagers and the debate on nature in the new world. most importantly, it examines their endeavors as a process of constructing a history of brazil and its people, uncovering the meanings and possibilities relevant to the civilizing process underway and their role in this context.

Abstract: in this paper the relationship between citizenship and human rights in latin american countries in this time of globalization is analyzed from a philosophical-political perspective. the adoption of varying types of human rights in latin american countries has not evolved the same nor in the same order as in north america. this invites one to reflex on the meaning and significance this has on human rights in latin america, most notably with certain communities and ethnic minorities that have demanded their human rights where their unique cultural diversity defines them in relation to a western paradigm of human rights which has excluded them.

Abstract: this work's purpose is to make more visible hellen howitt's presence in latin american nursing. at the same time it pretends to make an analysis on the political influence of the interamerican cooperative public health services in nursing in the region and the presence of religious organizations, especially north american ones in several latin american countries. helen howitt, a canadian nurse who graduated from the university of alberta, was sent in 1942 by the paho (pan american health organization) to advise the colombian ministry of labor, hygiene and social provision. she became part of the opening and organization project of the escuela nacional superior de enfermeras (national nursing school) where she be-come their first director. helen howitt was director of the nursing school of santo tomás hospital in the panamá canal zone between 1933 and 1938, later she became the founder and first director of colombia's national nursing school between 1943 and 1951; afterwards of bolivia's national nursing school between 1953 and 1959, when she was invited to fulfill a similar position in venezuela. she arrived to all these countries first as consultant of the respective ministry of health, through agreements with the interamerican cooperative public health services. the rockefeller foundation used to provide scholarships to all latin american countries, at santo tomas hospital school in panama there used to be students from all parts in central america, venezuela, colombia, ecuador and argentina. the rockefeller foundation wanted to unify nursing throughout latin america. it first arrived in venezuela and nurses who graduated in panama were leaders in latin america where they tried to open schools.

Abstract: four statements inferenced from: religious traditions, gender or woman status, military heritage and ethnic inheritance, and their influence in nursing, are presented in this article. the ethnic inheritance analyses the issue based upon the cultural influences of the native-indigenous groups and the spanish and mediterranean attributes in nursing development.the religious tradition began with pedro claver's j.c. presence between 1610 and 1617. his presence is followed by the "hermanos hospilalarios de san juan de dios" in 1768, and further with the presence of the sisters of charity in 1873. lastly, the article compares the barcelona's santa cruz hospital organization, where at that time, seems to appear a new type of nursing arrangement; which present functions and charges, currently utilized in colombian hospitals ( administrator of patient rooms, "servidor", women in charge of female patients and sick children, "economa", chief in charge, and senior male nurse).

Abstract: En este trabajo se analizan las relaciones entre ciudadanía y derechos humanos en América Latina frente a la era global, desde una perspectiva filosófico-política. La adquisición de los diversos tipos de derechos humanos en América Latina se ha realizado de forma diferente, y con otro orden de aparición que el seguido en la región noroccidental de Norteamérica. Esta situación invita a reflexionar el significado y el sentido que tienen los derechos humanos en Latinoamérica, en la que la presencia de comunidades y minorías étnicas han demandado su derecho a tener derechos humanos, sin olvidar sus condiciones de diversidad cultural y asimetría respecto a la cultura occidental, que ha planteado un paradigma de los derechos humanos que los ha excluido por no asimilarse o convertir a sus miembros en individuos-ciudadanos occidentales.

Para ello, se sirve de las figuras del pensamientocontemporáneo provenientes tanto del discurso científico como de otras disciplinas. Sedestaca la necesidad de pensar las formas de la espacialidad generada en dichosámbito, sus consecuencias en la discursividad y por ende, en la producción de conocimiento.

Abstract: Sabe-se que o ordenamento jurídico brasileiro n o admite a constitui o de sociedades de responsabilidade limitada com apenas um sócio e, em caso de unipessoalidade superveniente, tal fato deve ser sanado, sob pena de sua dissolu o. Há, entretanto, vários países, sobretudo europeus, que admitem a constitui o de sociedades com apenas um sócio e, conseqüentemente, a legalidade da unipessoalidade superveniente. O objetivo com este artigo é comparar os argumentos sob os quais os diferentes ordenamentos admitem tal espécie jurídica e estudar os mecanismos colocados na legisla o que permitem diminuir os riscos a que terceiros e sociedade em si est o expostos em decorrência da existência de tal tipo de sociedade.

Abstract: A obra da escritora mo ambicana Lina Magaia deu lugar a um cruzamento entre fic o e história, documentando o desenvolvimento da guerra civil em Mo ambique (1975-1992) através de testemunhos daquele conflito que recolheu e publicou nas obras Dumba Nengue (1986) e Duplo Massacre e Mo ambique (1987), bem como do seu único romance, Delehta. Pulos na Vida (1994). Em todos os textos de Magaia, as vozes das mulheres encontram um espa o central, através da dicotomia “sujeito / objecto”- “agressor / vítima”, que caracteriza o seu papel na guerra civil.Neste trabalho, pretendemos olhar para as formas em que essa ambiguidade dialógica acompanha o desenvolvimento de personagens femininas, no romance de Magaia. Vamos analisar os processos pelos quais a sua escrita “ficcionaliza” a história e “historiciza” a fic o, pelo retrato historicamente contextualizado que a autora faz da mulher mo ambicana.
