Lima, Ana Lúcia Lei Munhoz;Barone, Antonio Alci;
Acta Ortopédica Brasileira , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-78522001000100005
Abstract: we studied 46 patients submitted to total hip replacement at an orthopaedics institute in the city of s?o paulo, brazil, from 1993 to 1995, in order to determine the real frequency of hospital infections of the superficial and deep surgical wounds occurring in this operation. the study consisted of preoperative, transoperative and postoperative monitoring and a minimum follow-up period of three months for all patients in order to characterise the etiologic agents of the infections and risk factors contributing to the development of the latter. the total frequency of hospital infections was 15.1%, 6.5% of them being superficial wound sepsis, 6.5% deep wound sepsis and 2.2% infection of the urinary tract. the etiologic agents detected were: pseudomonas aeruginosa (2 cases), coagulase-negative staphylococcus (2 cases), morganella morgani (1 case), and association of acinetobacter calcoaceticus (2 cases). the risk factor showing a statistically significant effect in this patient series was increased surgical time. we conclude that the frequency of superficial and deep surgical wound sepsis in total hip replacement surgeries was higher in the present series compared to data reported in the international literature, with a high participation of gram-negative bacilli as etiologic agents and with increased surgical time representing the major risk factor.

Educa??o em saúde para portadores de doen?a mental: relato de experiência
Ruiz, Vanessa Romeiro;Lima, Alessandra Ribeiro;Machado, Ana Lúcia;
Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da USP , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0080-62342004000200010
Abstract: the account in this text refers to an effective health education project in a mental health post in sao paulo for which nursing department students are responsible. the belief in the mentally ill person conquering rights as citizens as well as understanding that the education may become the individual's most valuable emancipation tools were the starting point of the project. there was a short phase as well as a long one, both of which occurred in the weekly open group format to users and their family members, and whose characteristics were free participation, since the space was open for discussion and the exchange of both opinions and experiences. the themes were chronic illnesses, and those highlighted ones were mental illnesses, communicable diseases and chronic degenerative-illnesses.
AIDS e feminiza o: os contornos da sexualidade
Maria Lúcia Chaves Lima,Ana Cleide Guedes Moreira
Revista Mal-estar e Subjetividade , 2008,
Abstract: Since aids was discovered, prevention has been faced as a crucial matter for the epidemic control and after more than twenty years, the prevention importance is not less fundamental, principally taking into consideration the feminization of the aids. The fast spread of aids has drawn the attention of researchers for the comprehension of human sexuality limitations, although all the effort which were developed with the intention of clarifying people s doubts about the transmission ways and that people should do to reduce the risk of being contaminated, there is not the expected decline of new infection cases. Thus, considering aids as a disease which is able to produce a great deal of psychological suffering, this research aims to include itself in the discussion about the sexuality as a fundamental element to fight aids. The authors claim that a broad discussion about sexuality and facing desire openly might help the development of better strategies to prevent aids. Perhaps if sexuality changes from the unheimlich to the family order people would get ready when facing possible aids contamination situations. Who knows? Thus, it is necessary to make a change from the discussion about the virus to a discussion about the pleasure that everybody, somehow, search in their sexual intercourses.

Online Brazilian Journal of Nursing , 2006,
Abstract: The current study presents an exploratory-descriptive research carried out with a group of nursing workers from the I Wing Ambulatory of the University Hospital of Santa Maria. The application of the “Italian Worker Model” methodology provided an initial diagnosis about the working loads existing in this environment as well as inputs have been offered to the workers so that they could reflect on the inter-relations that are inherent to the working processes and to living with health in the job and in society. The sampling comprised those who participated in the collective interview proposed by the model. The results of the investigation evidenced that the most present loads in the working environment were both physical and psychic. Upon the completion of the study, the investigation enabled the identification of a high degree of psychic distress in the job evidenced by the absenteeism, among other important findings.
The resignification of management processes in care procedures in nursing
Estela Regina Garlet,Letícia de Lima Trindade,Maria Alice Dias da Silva Lima,Ana Lúcia de Lourenzi Bonilha
Online Brazilian Journal of Nursing , 2006,
Abstract: This study had as goal to discuss some aspects about the management processes in the care production in nursing. It’s made up by a critic reflective analysis, which aims to reflect on the questioning that was brought from the reading of texts used in a doctor and master’s course. During the subject’s development it was possible to identify, through the analysis of the suggested bibliography, the drifting away visualized by the nurses between the management and the care. However it’s possible to conclude that this is due to, in great part to these professionals’ graduation, which lead to the distortion on the comprehension of these subjects about the care procedures.

Revista de Economia e Sociologia Rural , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-20032009000200007
Abstract: econometric models were developed to estimate the implicit prices for selected quality attributes of fresh peaches commercialized in the state of sao paulo. such estimation is conducted in two stages of the distribution chain, namely, wholesale and retail sales. data on the price and quality attributes (such as color, size, varieties and types of damages) of fresh peaches were obtained from cross-sectional data in different time periods. the estimation of hedonic prices is proposed as a method to evaluate post-harvest price variations from wholesale to retail sales. the results obtained allowed us to identify the gains accrued in each stage, deriving from the improvement in the product quality attributes.
Crescimento de Hymenaea courbaril L. var. stilbocarpa (Hayne) Lee et Lang. e Enterolobium contortisiliquum (Vell.) Morong (Leguminosae) sob diferentes níveis de sombreamento

Acta Amazonica , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0044-59672010000100006
Abstract: hymenaea courbaril l. var. stilbocarpa (hayne) lee et lang. is a clímax shadow tolerant specie and enterolobium contortisiliquum (vell.) morong., by the other hand, is considered as a pioneer specie. the development of these species may reflect its adaptation ability to different environmental elements (light, water and temperature) at its growth site. an inadequate supply of some of these elements may reduce plant vigor and limit its development. this work aimed to evaluate the effects of shade intensity on the growth and photosynthetic pigment concentration of two arboreal legumes that are typical to northern brazil, namely, the hymenaea courbaril l. var. stilbocarpa (hayne) lee et lang. and the enterolobium contortisiliquum (vell.) morong. the experiment was carried out at the centro universitário luterano de ji-paraná (ceulj/ulbra)/rond?nia. during the formation of the seedlings, both species were exposed to four treatments of shade: 0 % (control - without shade); 30 %; 50 % e 80 %. each treatment was carried out with three replications for each species; the experimental design was completely randomized. four month after sowing, the following analyses were carried out: number of leaves, plant height, roots length, dry mass and photosynthetic pigment concentration. the treatment under 0% shade impaired the seedling growth of both species. the most favorable treatments were 50 % and 80 % shade. according to the shade intensity, the chlorophyll a/b ratio decreased and the chlorophyll and carotenoids increased.

Acta Botanica Brasilica , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-33062006000300012
Abstract: prior to abscission, nutrients are redeployed from leaves and redistributed to other parts of the plant. data comparing nutrient resorption to soil fertility and leaf life span remains controversial in the literature. we compared nitrogen (n) conservation mechanisms among four legume trees with different leaf life spans (hymenaea courbaril l. var. stilbocarpa (hayne) lee et lang., lonchocarpus guilleminianus (tul.) malme, enterolobium contortisiliquum (vell.) morong and peltophorum dubium (spreng.) taub.), from a semideciduous tropical forest, remnant of the atlantic forest. we hypothesized that these mechanisms differ among the four species and are affected by their leaf life span and by the availability of n, both as a mineral in the soil and, in the case of l. guilleminianus and e. contortisiliquum, from symbiotic nitrogen fixation (snf), as these species form associations with rhizobia. the plants were grown in a greenhouse using pots filled with forest soil, enriched (50 or 100 mg of nh4no3 plant-1week-1) or not with nitrogen. h. courbaril, a semideciduous tree, without snf, and with the highest leaf life span, presented the greatest n-resorption efficiency (nre), n-resorption proficiency (nrp) and n-use efficiency (nue). increase in soil n and the presence of symbiotic n fixation led to a decrease in nre, nrp and nue.
