Oliveira, Ana Lúcia M. de;
História, Ciências, Saúde-Manguinhos , 1995, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-59701995000100006
Abstract: inspired by wittgensteinian philosophical investigation, this essay begins with an analysis of fragmentary form in order to reach the central point: a discussion on event as a category. briefly, it seeks an aesthetic approach to a problem situated at the crossroads of literary theory, history, philosophy, and even science. a possible link is suggested by deleuze and guattari in their discussion of the three major trends of thought - art, science, and philosophy- as different ways of dealing with chaos, tracing a plan which traverses it. as a study still in progress, the essay is intended to raise basic questions to be developed further through future investigation.

Algumas dessas áreas s o a comunica o e a gest o emocional. The aim of this paper is to interpret data obtained in a phenomenological case study that researched the suffering of sixteen main caregivers (family members) of terminally ill hospitalized patients. The data of that study are interpreted here in light of A. Antonovsky's salutogenic pre-paradigm, which promotes health, not disease, fulfilling the objectives proclaimed by WHO, particularly in Ottawa. The methodology that was used was qualitative with hermeneutic interpretation, combined with content analysis (based on the most important categories of the salutogenic conceptualization). The results show that all the family members identified and utilized various General Resistance Resources (GRR), which can be understood in light of three metacategories: 'comprehensibility', 'manageability' and 'meaningfulness'. It was also found that the use/creation of the GRR implies the existence of strong senses of coherence on the part of the respondents, as stated by Antonovsky. The results allow us to understand that there are areas of health professionals' training that can be stimulated in situations similar to the studied one, such as comm

Oliveira, Lúcia Camara Castro;Zuccaro, Ana Maria;
Revista do Colégio Brasileiro de Cirurgi?es , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-69911999000600007
Abstract: the aim of this study was to compare the cleansing ability, patient compliance, and safety of two oral solutions or colonoscopy. all eligible patients were prospectively randomized to receive either a standard mannitol solution or a 260 ml 01 sodium phosphate for bowel preparation for colonoscopy. parameters evaluated included patient's tolerance or taste and volume 01 solutions, gastrointestinal and cardiac side effects and quality 01 preparation. exclusion criteria included pregnancy, ascites, symptomatic congestive heart disease and pre-existent renal disease. statistical analysis was performed using the wilcoxón 's rank-sum test and fisher 's exact test. between april 96 and 98, 220 patients were prospectively randomized to receive either mannitol or sodium phosphate solutions, and completed all phases 01 the trial. patient's tolerance for both solutions was similar except for abdominal pain and bloating, that were more common with oral mannitol. conversely, patients tolerance to sodium phosphate was poor due to oral taste (p=0.0043). the quality of preparation was similar for both solutions. however the exam was interrupted in 8 and 5 patients who took mannitol and sodium phosphate, respectively (p =0.56) there was no morbidity or mortality in this series. although quality of both preparations was similar; oral sodium phosphate was better tolerated overall. both oral solutions proved to be effective and safe. sodium phosphate was related to less dehydration and overall cost. in addition, patient tolerance of the smaller volume of sodium phosphate may be a clear advantage over the traditional mannitol.
