Abstract: We have developed CDAPubMed, an open-source web browser extension to integrate EHR features in biomedical literature retrieval approaches. Clinical users can use CDAPubMed to: (i) load patient clinical documents, i.e., EHRs based on the Health Level 7-Clinical Document Architecture Standard (HL7-CDA), (ii) identify relevant terms for scientific literature search in these documents, i.e., Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), automatically driven by the CDAPubMed configuration, which advanced users can optimize to adapt to each specific situation, and (iii) generate and launch literature search queries to a major search engine, i.e., PubMed, to retrieve citations related to the EHR under examination.CDAPubMed is a platform-independent tool designed to facilitate literature searching using keywords contained in specific EHRs. CDAPubMed is visually integrated, as an extension of a widespread web browser, within the standard PubMed interface. It has been tested on a public dataset of HL7-CDA documents, returning significantly fewer citations since queries are focused on characteristics identified within the EHR. For instance, compared with more than 200,000 citations retrieved by breast neoplasm, fewer than ten citations were retrieved when ten patient features were added using CDAPubMed. This is an open source tool that can be freely used for non-profit purposes and integrated with other existing systems.More than 700,000 biomedical articles were published in 2009 and indexed in MEDLINE [1]. At this rate, an internist like other medical specialists, in fact would have to read at least 20 scientific papers every day to keep up-to-date with this overwhelming number of yearly citations [2]. To address this information explosion, different kinds of search engines, such as PubMed [3] or HubMed [4], for instance, supplement biomedical literature databases. These engines provide instant access to the biomedical literature. However, the large volume of available citations often lea
Naciones... Unidas?

Distinguished trajectories in time dependent vector fields
J. A. Jimenez Madrid,Ana M. Mancho
Physics , 2008, DOI: 10.1063/1.3056050
Abstract: We introduce a new definition of distinguished trajectory that generalises the concepts of fixed point and periodic orbit to aperiodic dynamical systems. This new definition is valid for identifying distinguished trajectories with hyperbolic and non-hyperbolic types of stability. The definition is implemented numerically and the procedure consist in determining a path of limit coordinates. It has been successfully applied to known examples of distinguished trajectories. In the context of highly aperiodic realistic flows our definition characterises distinguished trajectories in finite time intervals, and states that outside these intervals trajectories are no longer distinguished.

Abstract: Human papillomavirus (HPV) selectively infects the epithelium of the skin and mucous membranes. Specific HPV types are associated with squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, and dysplasias of the cervix, penis, anus, vagina and vulva1. The term head and neck cancer includes malignancy in an area that comprises the skin, oral cavity, salivary glands, lip, pharynx, larynx, nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses and soft tissues of the neck and ear2. The first association of HPV with head and neck cancer was published in 1985 3. HPV was also shown to play a role in the pathogenesis of a subset of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCCs)4. Almost 650,000 patients worldwide are diagnosed with head or neck cancer each year and 350,000 patients die of this disease as this cancer is the sixth most prevalent type of cancer worldwide. The ratio of males to females is approximately 2:12, 3. From the point of view of the infection, HPVs have developed several molecular mechanisms to enable infected cells to suppress apoptosis5, 6. Based on their potential for oncogenesis, HPV types can be classified both as high-risk or low-risk7. Precancerous lesions of the oral mucosa are epithelial changes that are able to undergo malignant transformation more likely than normal tissue at other mucosal sites8. A total of 150 HPV genotypes have been identified9. The HPV 16 and 18 strains, which are known to cause nearly all cases of cervical cancer, also raise the risk of developing oropharyngeal cancer10. The evident similarities between both cervical and head and neck tumors prompted the utilization of the same HPV diagnostic procedures. There is now compelling evidence that specially designed methodologies must be employed for prognosis11, 12.

Citrus tristeza virus isolates from the main lemon varieties in Tucumán province were biologically characterized on the basis of vein clearing, vein corking, leaf cupping, stunting, stem pitting and other symptoms using standard indicator plants. The lemon varieties were: Frost Eureka, Frost Lisbon, Limoneira 8A and Genoa EEAT. Symptoms on each of the indicator plants were rated from 0 (no reaction) to 5 (most severe). A total rating for each isolate was obtained by summing the ratings on each indicator plant. Differences among lemon isolates were observed. Genoa isolate induced least growth while Limoneira isolate induced the most severe stem pitting. Little difference was observed between Eureka and Lisbon isolate.
