Abstract: The Mannich reaction is one of the most widely used reactions in organic chemistry, and also one of the first examples of a multicomponent reaction already described on the literature. This reaction results in β-aminocarbonylated compounds which allow the generation of several structures that can be used in the synthesis of both biologically active molecules, and natural products, however, just a few synthetic routes resulting in the formation of β-aminocarbonylated compound are known. In this sense, new methodologies have been developed by involving new catalysts or chiral auxiliaries in the synthesis of β-aminocarbonylated compounds with biological activity. One of these methodologies is the biocatalysis, which is a technique that uses biological catalysts, like enzymes or micro-organisms to convert a substrate in a limited number of enzymatic steps. The use of micro-organisms, plants or isolated enzymes as chiral catalysts has proportioned a significant advance in the synthetic chemistry, because it is known that the biocatalysts have selective catalytic sites that afford the formation of enantiomerically pure products and which is extremely important, because it is known that differences of the chirality may have tragic or spectacular effects in humans. Concerning to the environmental issue, the biocatalysis is placed within the context of a new philosophy called Green Chemistry. However, in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul the researches involving this issue of biocatalysis are still incipient once that by the year of 2010 there was only one research group focused on this theme registered in the Lattes Platform in the State. Because of the need of support to the researches focused on this issue in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul and to evaluate the biocatalytic potential of different lineage of microorganisms and enzymes in the synthesis of compounds β-aminoketonic through Mannich reaction it was proposed the use of some enzymes such as: lipase, Lipozyme and chymosin. The reactions were kept under stirring at room temperature from 24 to 48 hours in those which the enzymes were used like catalysts. All the reactions were monitored by thin layer chromatography. The crude of the reaction was purified on a silica gel column (70-230 mesh) and the obtained compounds were characterized by infrared spectroscopy, gas chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance. All the reactions biocatalyzed by enzymes showed biocatalytic potential, but their concentration, the basicity of the amine and the reaction medium interfered in the reaction yield. The both three e

Abstract: The classic thio-Michael reaction is the one that involves the addition of a sulfur atom like the nucleophile of the reaction to an electrophile α,β -insaturated. There are many reports in the literature which describe the need of the electrophile activation using, for instance, Lewis acid. However, there is a slope that aims this activation using biocatalysts such as enzymes. In this sense, this study aimed to analyze some enzymes on the thio-Michael reaction. Some biocatalysts were tested such as the enzymes like Lipase, Lipozye and Chymosine (Figure 1). The reactions results indicated that the application of these biocatalysts proportioned a shorter reaction time from one day to four hours with high yield levels.

Abstract: gastric carcinoma with duodenal invasion is reported in 11% to 33,3% of surgical specimens. in spite of this high frequency, it is not easily recognised during the surgical proceeding or at gross examination. the study of risk factors like histological type, tumor stage and extension of duodenal invasion can be useful in establishing the best surgical approach in order to diminish the risk of local recurrence. we report 50 cases of distal gastric carcinoma in which we analysed the tumor extension in the different layers of the duodenal wall; duodenal invasion was correlated with histological type, level of infiltration in the gastric wall and presence of vascular invasion. duodenal invasion was observed in 27 cases (54%), 17/32 of intestinal type (53%), 9/10 of diffuse type (90%) e 1/8 of non-classifiable tumours (12,5%). diffuse type carcinoma was the most important risk factor for invasion (or = 11; ci 95%: 1,20 to 254,16; p < 0,01). most of the cases (21/27, 77%) were stage iii or iv. the submucosal layer was the most frequent (22/27 cases, 81%) and also most extensively (8,21 ± 9,75 mm) invaded. we conclude that the risk of duodenal invasion is higher in diffuse type tumours and in stage iii or iv. distal surgical resection should be wider in these cases and determined by frozen section biopsy specimen at the point of transection.

Abstract: chronic kidney disease (ckd) is a serious public health problem whose prevalence has increased in the last few years. its progression is associated with high morbidity and mortality. several factors are associated with the onset and progression of ckd, such as obesity, hypertension and diabetes mellitus. beyond these factors, there is evidence of a pathophysiological role for inflammation in ckd. several cytokines and chemokines have been detected in the plasma and urine of patients at early stages of ckd, and have also been related to ckd complications. the expression of these mediators and renal injury may be influenced by drugs such as angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, statins and antagonists of cytokine receptors. modulation of the immune-inflammatory response can become a target for ckd treatment. the aim of this study was to review the scientific evidence on the role of inflammation in ckd, especially the effects of cytokines and chemokines.

Abstract: because of the possible health effects, a large number of soy isoflavone products are now available on the brazilian market. our objective was to determine the isoflavone content and distribution in soy dietary supplements commercialized in brazil and verify the accordance to the isoflavone content supplied by the producers. determinations were made by high performance liquid chromatography and photodiode array detection of the intact isoflavones without acid hydrolysis. total isoflavone content varied significantly among products, from 3 to 22 mg/100 g (expressed as aglycones) and was much lower than the values found in the product labels (27 to 86% less). isoflavone distribution varied according to isoflavone source and products could be classified in two groups, those having daidzein predominance and those having genistein predominance. based on these data, we conclude that there is a need of better standardization and quality control of these products and also a clear regulation.
