Abstract: the lack of specific demographic studies about anal canal and anus cancer in brazil and a better understanding of pathologies' behavior in sergipe's state had motivated the accomplishment of such study. in retrospective analysis (1993 - 2005) we evaluate the main demographics characteristics of the anal cancer in sergipe. from a total of 91 patients, 69 (76.6%) were female and 21 (23.4%) were male. the average of new cases a year was of 0,39 per 100.000 people, with standard deviation of ± 0,16. the squamous cell carcinoma (scc) account of 68% of the cases of anal cancer. in the present study it was observed an unconnected medical charts fulfillment and the necessity of a protocol for the assistance as well as the follow-up of the patients with anal canal and anus cancer.

Abstract: colon laudering is used in many colon surgeries. the liato, that promotes cleanness of colon, demonstrates an increase of the surgical time and increase risk of infection. this study compares colonic anastomosis with and without preparation, through histomorfometric analysis. 30 rabbits were submitted to the surgery treatment and had been evaluated and divided in groups: group 1 (control) and group 2 (liato). carried through statistical study with the program prism? 4 for p< 5%. the analisis found acute inflammatory infiltrated with discrete bigger average in the anastomoses of group 2. chronic inflammatory infiltrated with average of 1,9 in the anastomoses of group 2 and of 2,1 in the ones without preparation. necrosis in 15,7% in the liato against 13,5% in the group without preparation. calcium deposit in 43% of the anastomoses with preparation and in 30%, of the ones without preparation. bigger colágen concentration were met in the anastomoses made with the intestinal laudering. incidence of interlaced colagen fibres was observed in 86% of the anastomoses of the searched one and in 70% in the control group. we conclude that the liato presents better incidence of interlaced colagen fibres and fibre concentration resulting in better anastomosis.

Journal of Coloproctology (Rio de Janeiro) , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S2237-93632011000300009
Abstract: anus neoplasm accounts for 2 to 4% of colorectal tumors, being more prevalent around the seventh and the eighth decades. females are mostly affected, and the ratio is 3:1. its increased prevalence amongst the population in the past years is probably related to the higher number of people that are affected by sexually transmitted diseases, mainly human papillomavirus (types 16 and 18, mostly) and/or the human immunodeficiency virus. diagnosis is based on clinical findings and anatomopathological tests. the treatment of choice is radiochemotherapy, and the rescue surgery with abdominoperineal resection is used for recurrence and persistence cases. a retrospective and prospective longitudinal observational study was performed with 11 patients diagnosed with anal neoplasm from 2004 to 2010. six (54.5%) were females and five (45.5%) were males. the incidence was higher in the sixth decade, at the mean age of 54.45 years. the most frequent histological type observed was the epidermoid carcinoma, and the most frequent cell differentiation type was the moderately differentiated. chemotharapy associated with radiotherapy was used in 81.9% of the patients, and abdominoperineal resection was necessary as a rescue surgery in 18.2% of the patients.

Abstract: the peutz-jeghers syndrome is a rare disease characterized by the presence of mucocutaneous melanic pigmentation of the lips, oral mucosa and perioral region, associated with hamartomatous intestinal polyposis. malignization of the polyps and association with other types of cancer are also usual. case report: 32-year-old patient, female, white, who had an intestinal occlusion by invagination, discovered during laparotomy, when an intestinal tumor was found as well. the material was sent to anotomopathological analysis. however, the results did not allow to identify the tumor nature due to tumor necrosis. then, the patient was sent to our service because of the intestinal polyps, and during the interview, the characteristic melanic pigmentation was observed. videocolonoscopy was performed, with excision of two rectal polyps, identified in the anatomopathological exam as hamartomatous polyps. the patient reported anal imperforation at birth, just like her brother. he had unexplained death. the authors found no correlation of the peutz-jeghers syndrome with anal imperforation in the literature and asked the patient if her brother also had the syndrome.

Abstract: introduction: the histopathologic examination is repeatedly done in orificial surgeries and it's important to diagnose anal diseases associated, malign lesions and sexually transmitted diseases that weren't previously predicted on the clinic examination. the cost of the histopathologic examinations is very significant to the public health service, which shows the need to do a cost-benefit analysis of their routine use. objectives: evaluate the time between the surgical specimen's delivery and the emission of the histopathologic examination's report, the concordance level between the clinic impression and the histopathologic examination's report, the clinical relevance of the diseases secondarily diagnosed, the cost of the histopathologic examinations and the cost-benefit analysis of them. methods: descriptive and retrospective study of 173 histopathologic examinations from patients of the hospital universitário de aracaju made from 2005 to 2007, that were submitted to orificial surgeries. results: high concordance level between the clinic impression and the histopathologic examination's report; from the discordants reports, a few had clinical relevance and was only one case of anal cancer. there was a significant delay on the reports' emission, which suggests that the pathology service is overloaded; and the cost-benefit analysis was unfavorable. conclusions: we suggest screening to a rational and judicious use of the histopathologic examination in orificial surgeries based on the patient's clinical history and risk factors.

Abstract: children's body posture has been studied more and more by physical therapy, as well as mouth breather children have been studied by speech-language-hearing therapy. this study tries to check, through scientific literature, the relationship between stomatognathic functions and body posture in mouth breather children. this is a review of literature on body posture and the stomatognathic system in obstructive and functional mouth breathers. we searched, in electronic data basis such as medline, scielo and lilacs, and google scientific, articles related to these topics, published in the last 10. the selected articles were organized according to authors, title, source, age, and publishing year. when related to the type, the studies were considered: literature review articles; descriptive data analysis; field research. after selecting the texts, we identified four studies that relate posture, stomatognathic system and mouth breathing; two studies that relate stomatognathic system and posture; 13 studies relating to the stomatognathic system and mouth breathing. we may perceive that there is a lack of studies correlating body posture and stomatognathic system in oral breathers. the lack is even higher when we compare obstructive oral breathers and vicious oral breathers relating the body posture to the stomatognathic system.
