Soares, Ana Carolina Eiras Coelho;
Revista Brasileira de História , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-01882010000200011
Abstract: this article seeks to understand the relations between urban spaces in nineteenth century rio de janeiro and the gender relations expressed in josé de alencar's narrative in his urban feminine novels: diva, lucíola and senhora. changes in the capital of the empire in the nineteenth century provoked new expectations about the normatization of circulation expressed in these novels. josé de alencar was a novelist, playwright, chronicler, parliamentarian and statesman of the brazilian empire. in all these activities the political dimension, understood as the space for the articulation of the social and its representation, was strongly present.

Brand?o, Ana Carolina;Selva, Ana Coelho V.;
Educa??o e Pesquisa , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-97021999000200006
Abstract: the article discusses the issue of mathematics textbooks used in child education analyzing specifically textbooks that deal with problem solving. twelve series of textbooks were examined, and the analysis was developed around four pivotal aspects: the form of introduction to the concepts of addition and subtraction, the types of problems proposed, the use of illustrations in the description of the problem, and the type of record asked from children. it has been found that the textbooks examined display little variety with respect to the structure of problems. thus, problems involving addition are limited to structures of combination and transformation, and the majority of subtraction problems are restricted to the structure of transformation. it has been observed that illustrations are often employed to supply the data related to the problem. in many cases, it has been noted that the illustration itself furnishes the answer to the problem. as to the types of record requested from children, it was clear that they are usually limited to writing the data supplied and the answer in predetermined spaces. frequently the sign of the operation "expected" to solve the problem is indicated. the study concludes that the pre-school textbooks analyzed intend to work with the issue of problem solving but the situations proposed are repetitive and do not stimulate children to develop and contrast different strategies of solution.
Brand?o Ana Carolina,Selva Ana Coelho V.
Educa??o e Pesquisa , 1999,

American Journal of Plant Sciences (AJPS) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ajps.2012.37109
Abstract: Anatomical studies in the leaflet globoid galls of Caryocar brasiliense, the “pequi”, aimed to answer how oviposition and the feeding behavior of the galling herbivores altered the morphogenical patterns of the host plant. C. brasiliense globoid gall was 1.28 ± 0.20 mm × 0.90 ± 0.25 mm, with hairy surface; it is sessile and projected to the abaxial surface. Young galls were red while the mature ones were green. Preferentially, they were formed next to leaf margin and possessed one larval chamber containing a single galling specimen. Gall epidermis was uniseriate, with thicker cuticle and more hairy. In some spots, epidermis was substituted by periderm, which indicated the expression of a character usually absent in the leaf laminas. Morphological and anatomical features of these gall morphotype, such as its position in leaf lamina, the fact of being truly closed galls, with typical nutritive tissue involved by sclerenchyma, made them next to the pattern proposed for galls induced by some Hymenoptera.

Miéssi, Ana Carolina;Goiato, Marcelo Coelho;Santos, Daniela Micheline dos;Dekon, Stefan Fiúza de Carvalho;Okida, Ricardo Coelho;
Brazilian Dental Journal , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-64402008000300005
Abstract: the aim of this study was to evaluate the dimensional changes of denture bases made from different resins after different storage periods. for this purpose, 25 sets of plaster models/resin bases were prepared using 4 acrylic resins submitted to two types of polymerization: 1- qc-20 submitted to polymerization by microwave energy; 2- qc-20 submitted to polymerization by water hot bath; 3- vipi cril submitted to polymerization by water hot bath; 4- vipi wave submitted to polymerization by microwave energy; and 5- onda cryl submitted to polymerization by microwave energy. after polymerization, the specimens were sectioned for accuracy readings using a comparison microscope. readings were taken at 3 points: the crests of the right (a) and left (b) ridges, and the median region of the palate, in 4 different periods. the data obtained were submitted to two-way anova and tukey's test at 5% significance level. the greatest distortions were found in the posterior palatal region of the base (m), with statistically significant difference (p<0.05) for the studied resins. all acrylic resins presented dimensional changes and the storage period influenced these alterations.
Campos, Ana Carolina de;Coelho, Maria Cristina;Rocha, Nelci Adriana Cicuto Ferreira;
Fisioterapia e Pesquisa , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1809-29502010000300003
Abstract: the study aimed at assessing motor and sensory performance of infants with down syndrome (ds) comparing them to typical infants at the age of six months. eight infants - 4 with typical development, 4 with ds - were assessed as to motor performance by the alberta infant motor scale (aims) at supine, prone, sitting, and standing positions. sensory performance was assessed by using the infant/toddler sensory profile (itsp), which classifies sensorial behaviours as"low registration" (difficulty in detecting sensory stimuli), sensation seeking, excessive sensitivity to stimuli, and sensation avoiding behaviours. results show that infants with ds had significantly lower scores in low registration when compared to typical infants, suggesting that their higher sensory threshold lead to longer reaction times. at the aims, infants with ds had lower performance when compared to typical infants at the prone subscale, which may be due to deficits in postural and antigravity control. no correlation was found between itsp and aims scores. results then suggest that infants with down syndrome may less frequently engage in environmental interactions, probably due both to difficulty in perceiving day-to-day stimuli (like diverse sounds or people's) and difficulty to explore the environment by using their limited motor abilities.

Pinto, Fátima Cunha Ferreira;Garcia, Vanessa Coelho;Letichevsky, Ana Carolina;
Ensaio: Avalia??o e Políticas Públicas em Educa??o , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-40362006000400008
Abstract: this paper presents a " national research on the quality of education: parents' opinions about public schools" , done by funda??o cesgranrio for daeb/inep/mec in 2004/2005. the research is qualitative and quantitative in its methodological nature, and aimed at producing a comprehensive and general view of the relationship between schools and students' guardians, from the parents/guardians' perspective. two different methodologies were used to gather information: in the first stage, information was gathered through ten focus groups; in the second one, through surveys answered by 10.500 parents or guardians, from all of the brazilian states. the results presented here show the views and expectations of parents towards their children's schools. the research involved students from both municipal and state public elementary schools. besides other results, the research revealed that parents of brazilian public school students are generally satisfied with the education received by their children today and that they consider it better than the one received by themselves when they were students.
Association of oxamniquine praziquantel and clonazepam in experimental Schistosomiasis mansoni
Araujo, Neusa;Mattos, Ana Carolina Alves de;Coelho, Paulo Marcos Zech;Katz, Naftale;
Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02762008000800007
Abstract: the antischistosomal activity of clonazepam, when administered alone or in association with oxamniquine and praziquantel, was experimentally evaluated in mice infected with schistosoma mansoni. the animals were treated 45 days post-infection with a single dose, by oral route, according to three treatment schedules: clonazepam 25 mg/kg and sacrificed 15 min, 1h or 4 h after treatment; clonazepam 1.0, 2.5 or 10.0 mg/kg and sacrificed 15 days post-treatment or with the dose of 10 mg/kg in association with oxamniquine 50 mg/kg or praziquantel 200 mg/kg, single dose, orally, every schedule with a control group. the efficacy of the drugs in vivo was assessed by means of worm counts and their distribution in mesentery and liver, mortality and oogram changes. in the chemotherapeutic schedules used, clonazepam did not present antischistosomal activity and the result of the association of this drug with oxamniquine or praziquantel was not significantly different from the one obtained when these two last drugs were administered alone. in the in vitro experiments, the worms exposed to 0.6 mg/ml clonazepam remained motionless throughout the 8-day-period of observation, without egg-laying, whereas the worms of the control group showed normal movements, egg-laying and hatching of miracidia on the last day of observation. the results obtained in the present study confirm the action of clonazepam on s. mansoni adult worm, in vitro, causing total paralysis of males and females. however, no additive or synergistic effects were observed when clonazepam were used in association with oxamniquine or praziquantel.
