Abstract: species of mansoa are called "cipó-d'alho" because of the smell of garlic that wafts from their vegetative and reproductive parts. since data on the morphology and occurrence of their secretory structures are scarce and even absent for m. standleyi, the present work characterizes the distribution and morphology of such structures in the vegetative aerial axis of the latter. to do so, samples of the leaf blade and of nodal regions were fixed and examined using histological and scanning electron microscope techniques. histochemical tests with appropriate controls were carried out on the secretory structures during the secretory phase. fly and ant individuals that visit the species were sampled, preserved and identified by an entomologist. the secretory structures of the vegetative aerial axis of m. standleyi are peltate and patelliform glandular trichomes. all develop asynchronously and are present in the nodal regions and leaf blade, mainly in their youngest parts. trichomes form a secretory complex in the nodal regions while they are scattered in the leaf blade. histochemical analyses revealed that the cupulate and patelliform trichomes are extrafloral nectaries and that the peltate ones present an alkaloid fraction. the visitors of the nodal glands are ants crematogaster (formicidae) and ectatomma brunea (vespoidea, formicidae) and flies oxysarcodexia (sarcophagidae, subfamily utitidae [ulidiidae]). the secretory structures of the vegetative aerial axis of mansoa standleyi are similar to those reported for bignoniaceae. an extrafloral nectary is described for m. standleyi for the first time.

Abstract:

This study describes the anatomy of sterile leaves of Elaphoglossum discolor (Kuhn) C. Chr., E. flaccidum (Fée) T. Moore and E. laminarioides (Bory ex Fée) T. Moore, the most representative species of the genus in the Ecological Park of Gunma in Pará State. It reports the main diagnostic characters and provides new systematic data for the group. In addition, it locates the production and accumulation sites of bioactive compounds to determine possible adaptive strategies of these species in the Amazon rainforest environment. Diagnostic structural features include stoma typology, central veins and margin forms, type of mesophyll, and the presence of schlerenchymatous sheaths in the cortex, among others. Among the bioactive compounds related to defense adaptation are phenolic compounds, which occur in all three species, and alkaloids and mucilage, which are exclusive to E. laminarioides. Of the three species studied, E. laminarioides has features that make it the best suited to the rainforest environment.

Abstract: We take advantage of polyelectrolyte feature exhibited by natural cashew gum (Anacardium occidentale L.) (CG), found in northeast Brazil, to employ it in the formation of electroactive nanocomposites prepared by layer-by-layer (LbL) technique. We used polyaniline unmodified (PANI) or modified with phosphonic acid (PA), PANI-PA as cationic polyelectrolyte. On the other hand, the CG or polyvinyl sulfonic (PVS) acids were used as anionic polyelectrolytes. The films were prepared with PANI or PANI-PA intercalated with CG or with PVS alternately resulting in four films with different sequences: PANI/CG PANI-PA/CG, PANI/PVS and PANI-PA/PVS, respectively. Analysis by cyclic voltammetry (CV) of the films showed that the presence of gum increases the stability of the films in acidic medium. The performance of the modified electrode of PANI-PA/CG was evaluated in electro analytical determination of dopamine (DA). The tests showed great sensitivity of the film for this analyte that was detected at 10?5?mol?L?1. 1. Introduction The physicochemical properties of nanoscale composite are a result of molecular interaction between materials of interest, such as a conducting polymer, promoting greater structural control of the formed films [1–3]. Two of the most used methods to obtain nanostructured materials in the solid state are the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique [4] and the process of layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly [5]. This last one emerges as a method of deposition of alternating layers formed through the electrostatic interaction between oppositely charged solutions, where the formation of the first monolayer on the substrate surface occurs initially through a process of adsorption. In addition to the possibility of controlling the structure formed at the supramolecular level, the LbL technique has the advantage of not requiring any sophisticated equipment or procedures such as the LB technique. The technological interest of several research groups in composites, and more recently in nanocomposites, comes mainly from the mechanical properties and biodegradability, which are both characteristic of natural polymers, allied to the conductive properties of some synthetic polymers, which provides a great versatility of applications in areas such as engineering, biotechnology, and medicine [6–8]. Natural gums are macromolecules formed from units of sugars, monosaccharides, linked by glycosidic bonds resulting in natural polymers with long chains and high molecular weight [9]. The gums may originate from plants exudates (e.g., Arabic gum and cashew gum), seaweed extract

Abstract: Relato de coletas de anofelinos realizadas em Belém, Pará, Brasil, de 1995 a 2004, comparando os dados obtidos com os de levantamentos anteriores, feitos a partir da década de 1930. Nesses, vinte espécies haviam sido identificadas: Anopheles albitarsis s.l., An. aquasalis, An. argyritarsis, An. braziliensis, An. darlingi, An. eiseni, An. evansae, An. galvaoi, An. intermedius, An. kompi, An. mediopunctatus, An. nimbus, An. nuneztovari, An. oswaldoi, An. peryassui, An. punctimacula, An. shannoni, An. strodei, An. thomasi e An. triannulatus. Sete (An. argyritarsis, An. eiseni, An. galvaoi, An. kompi, An. nimbus, An. punctimacula e An. thomasi) n o s o agora registradas. A permanência de tantas outras espécies provavelmente decorre da preserva o de áreas de mata no ambito urbano. Duas delas s o consideradas de importancia vetorial (An. darlingi e An. aquasalis). Esta última continua sendo a de maior densidade nas coletas (46,26% dos adultos e 99,21% das larvas) e é a única registrada em todos os distritos administrativos. Existe, portanto, risco potencial de transmiss o de malária em todo o município.
