Aplikasi Metode Group Technology dalam Memperbaiki Tata Letak Mesin untuk Meminimalkan Jarak Perpindahan Bahan (Studi Kasus di Perusahaan Mebel Logam)

Abstract: Material handling process is affected by planning and setting layout facility since cost of material handling can reached 30-90% total production cost. In a metal furniture factory products were made without good setting layout facility. The machines and material were set at empty places. Distances between machines were not set so the traffic would get traffic jam. Unfinished material must wait until the number requirement for handling is reached. The layout setting of machines will be set with Group Technology. The methods used are Rank Order Clustering, Similarity Coefficient and p-median. The result of this method can reduce distance of material handling until 68%. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia: Perencanaan dan pengaturan tata letak pabrik berpengaruh pada proses pemindahan bahan karena biaya proses pemindahaan bahan dapat mencapai 30%-90% dari total biaya produksi. Selama ini sebuah perusahaan mebel logam melakukan proses pembuatan mebel logam berdasarkan lokasi mesin-mesin yang ada. Penempatan penambahan mesin ataupun bahan yang digunakan hanya berdasarkan ruang yang ada. Jarak antara proses (mesin) satu dengan yang lain tidak dipertimbangkan sehingga terjadi kesimpangsiuran proses. Bahan setengah jadi harus menunggu hingga jumlah tertentu untuk dipindahkan. Untuk itu dilakukan pengaturan tata letak mesin-mesin yang ada dengan menggunakan Metode Group Techonology. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode Rank Order Clustering, Similarity Coefficient dan p-median. Dengan metode ini jarak perpindahan bahan berhasil dikurangi hingga 68 %. Kata kunci: Group technology, rank order clustering, pengangkutan material.

Abstract: The present contribution moves from the theory of social representations (Moscovici, 1961) and focuses attention on the importance of social communication within negotiation processes of shared meanings. Actually, discursive psychology (Potter, & Wetherell, 1987; Billig, 1991) has showed that social representation have a narrative nature since they organize the cognitive schemata that people use to give sense to the world (Lazlo, 1997). In such a frame a crucial role is played by mass media, which do contribute to construct and convey the figurative nucleus of each representation (Mininni, 2004). By adopting this discursive perspective, the present contribution aims at investigating the social debate about assisted fecundation which in Italy has accompanied the campaign for the abrogation of Law 40. The corpus of data is made up of a sample of 46 media-texts collected within the weeks before the referendum. The data have been investigated by adopting diatextual analysis (Mininni, 1992; 2003; 2005).
Vibrations of a One-Dimensional Host-Guest System  [PDF]

Abstract: A simple model shows how it is possible to create a gap in the vibrational spectrum of a one-dimensional lattice. The proposed model is a host-guest chain having, instead of point-like masses connected by spring, massive cages hosting particles inside. We imagine the cage as a rigid box containing a mass linked by a spring to the box inner wall. The presence of guests creates an energy gap in the dispersion of vibrational frequencies. The gap is about the internal resonance of the mass hidden in the cage. The model is proposed to help understanding the macroscopic behaviour of some phononic materials and the properties of materials with microscopic rattling modes.
Measuring the Thermal Diffusivity in a Student Laboratory  [PDF]

Abstract: The paper describes a method for measuring the thermal diffusivity of materials having a high thermal conductivity. The apparatus is rather simple and low-cost, being therefore suitable in a laboratory for undergraduate students of engineering schools, where several set-ups are often required. A recurrence numerical approach solves the thermal field in the specimen, which is depending on the thermal diffusivity of its material. The numerical method requires the temperature data from two different positions in the specimen, measured by two thermocouples connected to a temperature logger.
An Ancient Rangefinder for Teaching Surveying Methods  [PDF]

Abstract: Rangefinders are instruments used for ballistics and for surveying in general. Here we propose a discussion of some of them, ranging from the ancient Rome to the modern methods. Using an ancient roman artefact as a model, we can prepare a rangefinder at no cost for teaching surveying methods to students of engineering and military schools.

Abstract: This research focuses on determining and analyzing the strategy of Local Government in Household Waste Management, supporting and inhibiting factors of strategy of Local Government in Household Waste Management and efforts to overcome the inhibiting factors of strategy of Local Government in Household Waste Management in Jatinangor District, Sumedang Regency, West Java Province. Research method used was descriptive with qualitative approach and by analyzing data inductively. Data collection techniques used were interview, observation, documentation and triangulation. Analysis technique used was SWOT analysis by determining internal strategic factors to identify strengths and weaknesses, and external strategic factors to identify opportunities and threats as basis to determine objective and formulation of the strategy. SWOT matrix was used to formulate strategic issues and Litmus Test was, then, used to make priority on selected strategies. Based on results of research, it can be concluded that strategy of Local Government in household waste management in Jatinangor District, Sumedang Regency, West Java Province has not been well implemented, as seen by low competence of apparatus, lack of facilities and infrastructures to support the operational activities, lack of promotion of regional regulation on waste management and lack of public participation in household waste management. Deriving from conditions above, 20 strategies were formulated, by developing the SWOT concept and Litmust Test, to be used by Local Government for waste management.

Abstract: Hardness is one of the mechanical properties needed in a grinding ball. The hardness of grinding ball produced up to now is gained by trial and error to those parameters which are presumed influencing the hardness. Research is done to get parameter influence the hardness of grinding ball and optimum level. Three parameters presumed influencing the hardness are temperature of raw material (Tm), the initial temperature of quenching (Tq), and the final temperature of quenching (Tt). Design of experiment is used to analysis which parameter influence the hardness. A 23 factorial design is chosen, each parameter has two level. According to experiment and data analysis, the influencing parameter are Tq, Tt and interaction between Tq and Tt. The optimum value of Tq and Tt are 905 ± 10°C and 133 ± 3°C, value of Tm is 1110 ± 10°C. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Kekerasan merupakan salah satu sifat yang dibutuhkan oleh grinding ball. Untuk mendapatkan sifat tersebut hingga saat ini masih dilakukan dengan cara trial and error sehingga sangatlah tidak efektif. Maka dari itu dilakukan suatu penelitian untuk mengetahui parameter-parameter yang mempengaruhi kekerasan grinding ball dan level yang optimal. Ada tiga parameter yang diduga mempengaruhi kekerasan grinding ball, yaitu temperatur raw material (Tm), temperatur awal proses quenching (Tq) dan temperatur akhir proses quenching (Tt). Untuk menganalisa parameter-parameter yang berpengaruh digunakan desain eksperimen. Desain eksperimen yang digunakan adalah rancangan faktorial 23, masing-masing terdiri atas 2 level. Dari percobaan dan analisa data, tampak bahwa parameter yang berpengaruh adalah Tq, Tt serta interaksi antara Tq dan Tt. Nilai Tq dan Tt yang optimum adalah 905 ± 10°C dan 133 ± 3°C, sedang nilai Tm yang dianjurkan 1110 ± 10°C. Kata kunci: Desain eksperimen, grinding ball, temperatur quenching

Abstract: Casting process in P.T. Barindo Anggun Industri produces many rejected products. This condition will be improved by controlling factors, such as pouring temperature, pouring time, and pouring height. The research shows that those three factors give significant effect and minimum number of rejected products is obtained when pouring temperature is set at 1200 °C, pouring time at 10 seconds, and pouring height at 10 centimeters. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Proses pengecoran di P.T. Barindo Anggun Industri menghasilkan banyak produk yang cacat. Keadaan ini akan diperbaiki dengan mengendalikan beberapa faktor, yaitu temperatur penuangan, waktu tuang dan ketinggian cawan tuang. Dari penelitian ketiganya memberikan pengaruh signifikan. Abstract: Maintenance scheduling system is very important for a company to reduce total maintenance cost. Maintenace scheduling will be done on hydraulic seal and oil burner pipe that are components of press machine for hot forming process. Scheduling model will consider labor cost, production loss cost, and spare part cost. The aim of this model is to determine the interval of maintenance by optimizing cost. This calculation will reduce total maintenance cost between 35,07 % and 90,73 % of the previous total maintenance cost. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Sistem penjadwalan perawatan mesin sangatlah penting bagi perusahaan untuk menekan biaya yang harus dikeluarkan. Penjadwalan perawatan akan dilakukan pada seal hydrolis yang merupakan komponen dari mesin press dan slang oil burner yang merupakan komponen mesin press untuk proses hot forming. Model perawatan yang digunakan akan memperhitungkan komponen-komponen biaya yang meliputi biaya tenaga kerja, biaya kehilangan produksi dan harga komponen. Model ini bertujuan untuk menentukan interval waktu perawatan dengan mengoptimalkan biaya. Dari hasil perhitungan dapat menekan biaya total berkisar antara 35,07% sampai 90,73% dari biaya total semula. Kata kunci: penjadwalan, perawatan mesin, biaya perawatan
Optimasi Parameter Operasi Mesin Air Slip Forming untuk Meminimalkan Cacat Produk

Abstract: Air Slip Forming machine is one of the machines that is used to produce luggage. However, so far in the manufacturing process determination of operation parameter air-out time (X1), air-in time (X2) and heating time (X3), also the response variable which is the circumference of the luggage (Y) are done by trial and error. Therefore the circumference of the luggage is not the same as the standard one. Respone surface method and CCD formula will be used to get this mathematical model which describe the relation between luggage circumference and other influential variables. The best condition to produce luggage with circumference that meets the standard are 6.3 sec for air-out time, 2.6 sec for air-in time and 62 sec for heating time. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Mesin Air Slip Forming merupakan salah satu mesin untuk memproduksi koper. Selama ini dalam proses produksinya penentuan parameter operasi waktu air-out (X1), waktu air-in (X2), dan waktu pemanasan (X3) serta variabel respon berupa keliling koper (Y) dilakukan dengan cara trial and error. Karena itu sering didapatkan ukuran keliling koper tidak sesuai standar. Metode respon surface dan rancangan CCD akan digunakan untuk mendapatkan model matematis yang menggambarkan hubungan antara keliling koper dan variabel-variabel yang mempengaruhi. Kondisi proses yang menghasilkan keliling koper yang sesuai standar adalah 6.3 detik untuk waktu air out, 2.6 detik untuk waktu air-in dan 62 detik untuk waktu pemanasan.
