International Journal of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery (IJOHNS) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ijohns.2012.12010
Abstract: Respiratory epithelial adenomatoid hamartoma (REAH) is an uncommon lesion of the upper aerodigestive tract first described by Wenig and Heffner in 1995 as prominent glandular proliferations lined by ciliated respiratory epithelium originating from the surface epithelium. Case Report: We report a case of 48-year-old women with nasal polyposis history, which consults for nasal obstruction, with suspicion of malignancy on CT. Surgical resection showed a respiratory epithelial adenomatoid hamartoma (REAH) of the nasal cavity. Conclusion: REAH is a recently described pathologic entity that can present rhinorrhea, epistaxis, hyposmia, and headaches. It is a rare lesion of nasal and paranasal sinuses, but should be considered in the differential diagnosis because it is a benign lesion and complete surgical resection is curative.

Open Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OJOG) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ojog.2012.23058
Abstract: Introduction: Malignant melanoma (MM) represents 1% of all cancers and has an incidence of 3% - 7% in the female genital tract, the majority of cases being reported in the vulva. The cervico-vaginal region is an unsual primary location of the malignant mela-noma. Case report: The clinical and morphologic findings of 3 MM patients with cervico-vaginal tumours mimicking cervical polyp in third case. Histologically, the neoplasia was formed by nodules of broad cytoplasmic cells with poorly defined borders with pleomorphic nuclei with prominent nucleolae. Tumor cells were positive for S-100 protein, Melan A, HMB 45 and CD117. The authors discuss three cases of cervico-vaginal melanoma and analyze clinical and prognostic aspects of this disease. Conclusion: Primary MM of the cervix should be considered in the differential diagnosis of cervical malignancies. Early diagnosis is essential in order to warrant a better prognosis, although there are no cases of cure described.

Neuroendocrine tumors of the ovary tumors are little known and infrequent. They are made up of cells appearing in the endocrine and nervous systems. These tumors are rare, but most of them are very aggressive, especially when they are diagnosed beyond FIGO Stage I. The distinction among the different subtypes is difficult and requires efficient techniques. Symptoms of neuroendocrine tumors are often nonspecific (redness in the face, diarrhea, asthma, abdominal pain and etc.,) and confused with more common diseases. Misdiagnosis is often asked: menopause or irritable bowel syndrome. Often the correct diagnosis is not made until years after the onset of symptoms. The relative rarity of these diseases and the lack of specificity of the symptoms make them often be diagnosed several years after onset. Fortunately, science has made significant advances in the diagnosis and treatment of neuroendocrine tumors. We report the case of a woman of 54 years, with abdominopelvic mass, in whom abdominal ultrasound revealed a mass avascular tissue Doppler taking the screen. The abdominopelvic CT showed a large cystic mass solido—abdominopelvic whose origin is difficult to determine. The patient underwent an exploratory laparotomy. Anapath the results of the right ovary were in favor of a well-differentiated neuroendocrine lesion.

Ihsane Souaf, Hinde El Fatemi, Amal Bennani, Chbani Leila, Hammas Nawale, Harmouch Tawfik, Afaf Amarti
Case Reports in Clinical Medicine (CRCM) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/crcm.2014.34046

Introduction: Papillary carcinoma arising from thyroid tissue in mature cysticteratoma (MCT) of the ovary is extremely rare, and it is not easy to diagnose preoperatively. No clinical, no radiological, no biological signs are specific to malignant transformation. Case presentation: A 51-year-old woman had a left ovarian tumor measuring approximately 18 cm diameter with malignant transformation of a mature cysticteratoma, who was diagnosed postoperatively with follicular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma. A laparoscopic hysterectomy and left salpingo-oophorectomy were performed. During surgery, there were no signs of invasion or metastasis. Conclusion: Consideration should be given to thyroidectomy followed by total-body scanning and serum studies for foci of thyroid carcinoma and adjuvant therapy with thyroidectomy and radio ablation if residual disease is identified.

Tubal hydatidiform mole is an uncommon condition with about 40 confirmed cases in the accessible literature. The patient usually presents with symptoms and signs of a classical ectopic pregnancy, and it is only after histological examination and DNA ploidy analysis of the conceptus that a hydatidiform mole is diagnosed. We present an unusual case of primi gravida at 6 weeks gestation that was diagnosed as having ectopic pregnancy.

Int'l J. of Communications, Network and System Sciences (IJCNS) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ijcns.2012.51005
Abstract: The indoor access network is characterized by several branches that cause many reflections. In this paper, we present an approach to model the transfer function of electrical power lines for broadband power line communication. The assuming channel consists of three wires, which is widely used in many countries. As an application of the proposed method, the effect of line length from transmitter to receiver, branched line length and number of branched are also studied. From the frequency response of the transfer function (magnitude and phase), it is seen that the position of notches and peaks in the magnitude responses are largely affected in terms of attenuation by the electrical network which consists of 15 branches.
On the Maximum Likelihood and Least Squares Estimation for the Inverse Weibull Parameters with Progressively First-Failure Censoring  [PDF]

Open Journal of Statistics (OJS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ojs.2015.51010
Abstract: In this article, we consider a new life test scheme called a progressively first-failure censoring scheme introduced by Wu and Kus [1]. Based on this type of censoring, the maximum likelihood, approximate maximum likelihood and the least squares method estimators for the unknown parameters of the inverse Weibull distribution are derived. A comparison between these estimators is provided by using extensive simulation and two criteria, namely, absolute bias and mean squared error. It is concluded that the estimators based on the least squares method are superior compared to the maximum likelihood and the approximate maximum likelihood estimators. Real life data example is provided to illustrate our proposed estimators.

Abstract: Authors report their experience with a case of FS of humerus showing a pathologic complete response to neo-adjuvant chemotherapy based on adriamycin, cisplatin and ifosfamid. This approach allowed limb-sparing surgery with an excellent functional and psychological result.Fibrosarcomas (FS) of bone represent 5% of all primary bone sarcomas [1,2]. It occurs most frequently in the middle age [1], and affects men and women with equal frequency. In addition, it affects most commonly the long bones. The tumor may be either central (68%) or cortical (31%) [1]. Fibrosarcomas can arises as a primary lesions, or secondary to fibrous dysplasia, to Paget's disease, to bone infarcts, to osteomyelitis, or to post-irradiation of bone and giant cell tumors (GCT) [3,4]. Histologically tumors are characterized by interlacing bundles of collagen fibers without any osteoid, or cartilage production [1]. Differential diagnosis includes fibroblastic osteosarcoma and malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) [5].Surgery is the standard treatment for fibrosarcoma of bone [1]. Amputation was the primary method of therapy, yielding the best curative results [1]. However, by combining advanced bone imaging techniques with surgical techniques, implant development and neo-adjuvant therapy, limb-sparing surgery can be safely performed. The role of systemic chemotherapy is not established. Few published reports of chemotherapy in FS of bone have been reported. Chemotherapy regimens used are similar to those used for osteosarcoma. Given to the rarity and heterogeneity of published reports it is not possible to draw conclusions about the role of neo-adjuvant chemotherapy in improving patients outcome and survival. We present here a rare case of locally advanced FS of bone experiencing complete pathologic response to adriamycin-cisplatin-ifosfamid neo-adjuvant chemotherapy, allowing limb sparing surgery, to illustrate the antitumor activity of this regimen in this rare tumor.A 28-year-old woman complained o
