Determination of the momentum of droplets impinging on the pool during aluminium GMAW
Scotti, Américo;Rodrigues, Carlos Eduardo Aguiar Lima;
Soldagem & Inspe??o , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-92242009000400008
Abstract: the purpose of this work was to raise the kinematics and dynamics characteristics of the droplets under transference during aluminium gma welding and quantify the partial effect of the momentum on the weld bead formation. it is initially claimed that a better way of quantifying this effect would be through the mass flow rate of the droplets reaching the weld pool; calculated parameter denominated here as effective momentum. bead-on-plate gmaw, shielded with ar, was carried out using an aluminium alloy wire. three levels of current and two levels of arc length were employed in the experimental design. high-speed filming shadowgraphy, synchronized with the electrical signals, was used as measuring tool. dedicated computational programs were employed to quantify arc lengths and size, frequency, acceleration and speed of the droplets. it was confirmed that in spite of the low values of the effective momentum for aluminium gmaw, the momentum is one of the governing factor in developing bead penetration. the interaction between effective momentum and welding current and its effect on the aluminium gmaw bead geometry is discussed.

Abstract: in order to study the potential use of common bean green leaves in human nutrition, three experiments were carried out in 1999/2000, one in vi?osa and two in coimbra, municipalities of the zona da mata area, state of minas gerais. a complete randomized block design with four replications was used. six cultivars from vi?osa experiment were used for both sensorial test and determination of green leaves production. in coimbra's first experiment, the effect of nitrogen fertilization on the cultivars pérola and ouro negro was evaluated, when both were submitted to 33% defoliation at flowering until the pod-filling stage. in coimbra's second experiment, a factorial of three levels of defoliation (33%, 66%, and 100%) x four plant ages (25, 40, 55, and 70 days after plant emergence) plus a control treatment (no defoliation) was analysed using the cultivar ouro negro. it was verified that green leaves of most bean cultivars had an acceptance similar to that of collard leaves (brassica oleraceae var. acephala), a popular vegetable in brazil. common beans could yield from 0.4 to 1.5 t/ha of green leaves with 33% defoliation. chemical composition of these leaves was similar to that of collard leaves. nitrogen fertilization increased the yield of green leaves, seeds and leaf protein. the most adequate time for defoliation was before flowering and should not exceed 33%.

Abstract: Admitting that all Thermoelectric Generators’ protection devices of a plant operate normal and precisely and that the alarms sent by sensory devices be received correctly, a fault occurrence will be configured by a particular standard of the state of this set of activated alarms. Therefore, a specific alarm or a set of these alarms activated simultaneously can indicate a fault of a generator. Intelligent techniques are adequate to process these alarms. This research involved 4 generators of practically identical characteristics in which 27 faults were mapped for each Generator. They were modelled by an Artificial Neural Network and an Expert System with the knowledge base stored in a relational database management system. The system was built, rigorously, conformably to the needs presented by the Usina Termoelétrica Norte Fluminense Plant (UTENF) and the results, according to the experts, attend to their requirements in detecting and diagnosing the generators’ failures.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the worm disease on goats and sheep kept on Panicum maximum Jacq. pastures, in the rainy season of the year. The dry matter density (DM) of different layers (0-15, 15-30 and above 30 cm) of Panicum maximum Jacq. pastures, and the forage contamination by gastrintestinal nematode infective larvae (L3) were quantified. Forty animals were submitted monthly to coproparasitological examinations (ECG and coproculture) during the rainy season. The experiment was carried out in Barreiras-Bahia-Brazil, in a split-plot design, with 10 replications on pastures and 20 replications on animals, from October of 2003 to March of 2004, and samples were taken from December to February. The number of infective larvae per kg/DM did not change with the grass layer, with average of 22.2 L3/kg DM. On the forage, Haemonchus sp. and Trichostrongylus sp. L3 larvae were indentified, reflecting the coproculture results. Goats showed higher ECG counting (2602) than Sheep (865), demanding more sanitary care.

A emergência da empresa virtual e os requisitos para os sistemas de informa??o
Azevedo, Américo L.;
Gest?o & Produ??o , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-530X2000000300003
Abstract: globalisation together with technological advances have dramatically changed the process of value creation at the end of this century. nowadays, more and more companies are being organised as networks of different units and are therefore becoming global businesses covering multiple manufacturing sites consisting of different shop floors, subcontractors and suppliers. the concept of virtual enterprise was born in this environment. the aim of this paper is to present the virtual enterprise as a new organisational paradigm and to explore the tight relationship with the information and communication technologies. our research has shown that traditional enterprise information systems do not suitably cope with some of the new demanding requirements of a distributed and heterogeneous manufacturing environment. in this context, this paper presents a set of requirements that supports this new organisational paradigm.
Ecuación del movimiento de un elemento finito lineal plano elástico dinámico con ocho grados de libertad
Hossne,Américo G;
Ingeniería y Ciencia , 2010,
Abstract: a lineal finite element with constant traverse section, it can adopt any orientation in the plane, and their ends or nodes tie it to the rest of the elements. the kinetic energy (t) and potential (v) of a dynamic elastic element are the basement in the implementation of the hamilton principle for the definition of a finite element. the definition of the kinetic energy and potential is the first step for the preliminary variational formulation to the enunciation for finite elements that it is used to solve, say, the problems of mechanisms that move in the plane using the hamilton equation. the general objective consisted on defining the equation of the movement of a finite lineal dynamic elastic plane element using the equation of hamilton, starting from the lagrangiana (t ? v) obtained with the use of a polynomial of fifth and first degree, with eight degrees of freedom, four in each node that represented the deformations: axial (u(x)), traverse (w(x)), slope ((dw(x)/dx)) and bend ((d2w(x)/dx2)). the deformation due to traverse shearing, insignificant with respect to flexional and axial deformations, the rotational inertia and the frictional forces in the nodes, were underrated with the purpose of producing a friendly element. the specific objectives were to take place: (a) the translational mass matrix [md], (b) the translational gyroscopic matrix [ad], (c) the translational total rigidity matrix [kd], and (d) the deformation vector (s). as a result the movement equation of a finite lineal dynamic elastic plane element was forged on concluded that the equation obtained variationally with the application of the hamilton principle is the state-of-the-art pattern, and that the procedure can be used when it is required to increase the number of the pattern freedom degrees.

Janczura, Gerson Américo;
Paidéia (Ribeir?o Preto) , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-863X2005000300011
Abstract: this study presents semantic association norms for natural categories. participants were instructed to produce the first response to sentence cues using a free association procedure. the free associations produced in two different contexts were contrasted to categories presented with no context. the following parameters were calculated: category set size, word associates, errors, omissions and idiosyncratic responses. a measurent index that indicates which category members are more likely remembered regardless of category condition was proposed. results indicated a reduction effect on the semantic field. it was also demonstrated that some category members are more likely produced regardless of whether the category was experienced either with or without context. the category semantic field is reduced about fifty per cent when categories are presented within a sentence context.
