Hien,Amélie;
íkala, Revista de Lenguaje y Cultura , 2010,
Abstract: introduction: up to now, julakan -unlike french- fails to ensure efficiently and accurately transmission of ideas and knowledge in the field of health, even if the concern is sometimes diseases that exist in the environment where this language is used. objective: to contribute to the enrichment of the julakan, or at least to stimulate this enrichment which would help this language become an effective means of communication and knowledge transfer. method: contrastive analysis of the nomenclature of the julakan language used in the field of traditional medicine with the one utilized in the french language in the domain of modern medicine. results: the comparison made shows that even though there are instances of equivalence between the concepts of these two languages, there are also situations where quasi-equivalence and terminological gaps can cause problems at the level of communication and health care services. conclusions: faced with this reality, this article suggests specific solutions for each identified critical cases. in addition, new terms are proposed in order to fill terminological gaps and to enrich the nomenclature of the julakan in health domain.
Magnus Marsden, Living Islam. Muslim Religious Experience in Pakistan’s North-West Frontier
Amélie Blom
South Asia Multidisciplinary Academic Journal , 2007,
Abstract: This pleasure is rarely given to a book reviewer, so I shall put it simply: Living Islam is an important work, and this justifies assessing it in earnest and at length. 'What does it mean to live a Muslim life?' wonders Magnus Marsden. Asking this basic but powerful question has perhaps never been as strong a scientific imperative as today. To be sure, everyone—from the media and think-tanks in the West to religious and political authorities in the Muslim world—claim monopoly over the answer....
The 2006 Anti-‘Danish Cartoons’ Riot in LahoreOutrage and the Emotional Landscape of Pakistani Politics
Amélie Blom
South Asia Multidisciplinary Academic Journal , 2008,
Abstract: How can a long-distance outrage provoke social protest, even riots? The street demonstration against the 'Danish cartoons' that took place in Lahore on 14th February 2006 was primarily an expressive protest, publicly voicing its anger and moral discontent. As such, it offers a fruitful micropolitical site to understand how emotions contribute to shape the culture of dissent in contemporary Pakistan. Based on interviews with protestors, this article elaborates, first, on the linkages between anger, honour, the cognitively framed belief of being 'provoked', and biographical emotional repertoires. Second, it looks at the conflicting emotions displayed in the public arena: a desire of communitas yet destruction, an expression of compulsory feeling but subversive emotions as well. Finally, it argues that this protest has to be replaced in the larger framework of the state's singular politics of emotion that informs public debates in Pakistan, and particularly so in Punjab. Hence, the article focuses on a dimension often neglected in the literature on emotions and social movements: the emotional-institutional context.
The NormanFrench (or Anglo-Norman) influence on Middle English lexis
Amélie RAGOT
Studii de Stiinta si Cultura , 2011,
Abstract: Language contact is one of the main factors resulting in an enriched lexicon as languagesborrow and assimilate foreign "loan words" while they spread their own lexis as well as theirmorphological and syntactic peculiarities. Like any other language, English and French have beentaking part in such a phenomena. Since the Norman Conquest of 1066, French borrowings havepermeated through the English lexis due to the common history shared by these two languages.Several stages can be observed in which major influxes of French words, especially Norman andAnglo-Norman words, were brought about in Middle English. Such words are nowadays fullyintegrated in Modern English and give evidence of the close relationship between French andEnglish.
In 1922, the Capuchin monk Fran ois Bernardin Aza s, a former missionary of the Province of Hārar between 1897 and 1913, was commissioned by the French government to realise some archaeological researches in Ethiopia. In total, he achieved ten archaeological and ethnological missions in the South and the East of the country. Only his first four expeditions are known today, thanks to his book Cinq Années de recherches archéologiques en éthiopie (1931). During the other eleven years, Aza s wrote numerous progress reports and articles, still unpublished and kept in the Capuchin archives in Roma. This new documentation will help the researcher to increase the knowledge about the archaeological sites of southern Ethiopia and the history of Ethiopian institutions like the National Library or the National Museum and an archaeological institute. We can say that Aza s is the father of South Ethiopian archaeology.

The Berger extravagant raises a debate on demonic possession which ends as a coup de théatre . The narrator himself is doubting. Therefore, one can read the text attributed to the writer Onésime de Claireville as a philosophical fiction on the conditions and exercice of judgement. The question is : How can one judge ? On which criteria can one distinguish natural from surnatural, and truth from error ? Finally, in what way a fictionnal text - more complex and freer than philosophical speech - can treat that question ?
