Speculative attacks, openness and crises
Araujo, Aloisio;Leon, Marcia;Santos, Rafael;
Revista Brasileira de Economia , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71402012000200001
Abstract: we extended the cole and kehoe model (1996) by adding trade and debt denominated in national currency. we then evaluated some external debt defaults and steep national currency devaluations occurred during last decades. although default is unlikely, steep devaluation has been repeatedly triggered during financial distresses. it helps to overcome financial crisis as it improves trade balance and reduces national debt level. on the other hand, expected devaluation hurts welfare through both higher national debt cost and reductions in the investment level. we modeled such trade-offs and showed that trade openness, by and large, improves the expected welfare as it allows for a better devaluation-response technology. we ran model simulations based on past 48 crises occurred in 32 middle-income countries, reasonably fitting devaluation and default responses observed as from 1971.
Ataques especulativos sobre dívidas e dolariza??o
Araújo, Aloisio P.;Leon, Márcia S.;
Revista Brasileira de Economia , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71402002000100001
Abstract: this paper expands the cole and kehoe (1996) model of debt crisis, by bringing in local currency. in the modified version, the government holds, not only debt instruments denominated in foreign currency, but also carries debt instruments in local currency. under some circumstances, the partial default on the debt denominated in local currency makes way for the establishment of a central bank that is subject to political pressures from its government and that decides to devalue the local currency even though there is no speculative attack on the external debt. by using this model for an economy with local currency and a central bank that may be under political pressure, it is possible to compare the welfare levels between this economy and the one from original cole-kohoe models, which portrays a dollarized economy. simulations are done for the brazilian economy for june 1999 until may 2001. however, we should be careful when interpreting the results, since the numerical exercises suppose strong hypothesis to overcome the dimensionality problem.
Identification of Phaeoisariopsis griseola pathotypes from five States in Brazil
SARTORATO, ALOISIO;
Fitopatologia Brasileira , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-41582002000100012
Abstract: due to the increased importance of angular leaf spot of common bean (phaseolus vulgaris) in brazil, monitoring the pathogenic variability of its causal agent (phaeoisariopsis griseola) is the best strategy for a breeding program aimed at developing resistant genotypes. fifty one isolates of p. griseola collected in five brazilian states were tested on a set of 12 international differential cultivars in the greenhouse. when inoculated plants showed symptoms but no sporulation was observed, they were transferred to a moist chamber for approximately 20-24 h. after this period of time, if no sporulation was observed, the plants were considered resistant; otherwise, they were considered susceptible. from the fifty-one tested isolates, seven different pathotypes were identified. no andean pathotypes were identified; consequently, all isolates were classified as middle american pathotypes. pathotype 63-31 was the most widespread. pathotype 63-63 overcame resistance genes present in all differential cultivars and also the resistance gene(s) present in the cultivar and 277. this fact has important implications for breeding angular leaf spot resistance in beans, and suggests that searching for new resistance genes to angular leaf spot must be pursued.
Descendência e alian?a no espa?o tuyuka. A no??o de nexo regional no noroeste amaz?nico
Cabalzar, Aloisio;
Revista de Antropologia , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-77012000000100003
Abstract: considering the present situation of research about the northwest amazon social organisation, this paper proposes a way of understanding how relations based on patrilineal descent and alliance are articullated and spatially organised among the tuyuka uf upper tiquié river (uaupés basin). the model drawed is fundamented on distinctions between two forms of local groups, that constitute a regional nexus with center and periphery. this model allows the understanding of a uaupesian social system with areas where predominate values based on agnatism, commom language and exogamy, and how these areas are inter-connectec.
Gadamer e a recep o da hermenêutica de Friedrich Schleiermacher: uma discuss o sobre a interpreta o psicológica = Gadamer and the reception of Friedrich Schleiermacher’s hermeneutics: a discussion on the psychological interpretation
Ruedell, Aloisio
Veritas , 2012,
Schleiemacher has been taken, historically, as a reception and divulgation via Dilthey, of a unilateral stress in its psychological character. The present article has as its scope to display that Gadamer came to join in this trend of thought. The aid of Manfred Frank will allow us to show the mistake in such reception and the possibility of another reading where the meaning of psychological interpretation is a complement of grammatical interpretation and vice-versa. The discussion is placed, basically, on the interpretation with special focus in the “concept of divination”.

Cosmic Rays: What Gamma Rays Can Say
Roberto Aloisio
Physics , 2014,
Abstract: We will review the main channels of gamma ray emission due to the acceleration and propagation of cosmic rays, discussing the cases of both galactic and extra-galactic cosmic rays and their connection with gamma rays observations.
Spectra of Astrophysical Particles at Ultra High Energy and the Auger Data
Roberto Aloisio
Physics , 2014,
Abstract: We use a kinetic-equation approach to describe the propagation of ultra high energy cosmic ray protons and nuclei comparing theoretical results with the observations of the Pierre Auger Observatory.
Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays: A Short Review
R. Aloisio
Physics , 2012,
Abstract: We will review the main physical aspects of Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays. We will discuss in particular their propagation through astrophysical backgrounds, focusing on the latest experimental observations of HiRes, Telescope Array and Auger. We will also review the issue of the transition between galactic and extra-galactic cosmic rays.
