Revista Brasileira de Parasitologia Veterinária , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1984-29612010000300006
Abstract: forty-one specimens of mandi-amarelo pimelodus maculatus lacépède, 1803 (siluriformes: pimelodidae) and 54 specimens of jundiá rhamdia quelen (quoy & gaimard, 1824) (siluriformes: heptapteridae) were collected from the paraíba do sul river, volta redonda, state of rio de janeiro, brazil between november 2007 and october 2008. these fish underwent necropsy so their infracommunities of metazoan parasites could be studied. the same three species of parasites were collected in the two fish species studied. these were one monogenean, one nematode, and one hirudinean. cucullanus pinnai (travassos, artiga, and pereira, 1928) (nematoda: cucullanidae) and aphanoblastella sp. (monogenea: dactylogyridae) were the dominant species with the highest prevalence in p. maculatus and r. quelen. the parasite species of p. maculatus and r. quelen showed an atypical over-dispersed pattern of distribution. no parasite species showed significant correlation between the body total length of the siluriform hosts and their prevalence and abundance. the parasite species richness showed a mean value of 0.87 ± 0.67 (0 -2) and 0.57 ± 0.56 (0 -2) in p. maculatus and r. quelen, respectively, and no correlation with the body total length.

Revista Brasileira de Psiquiatria , 2003,
Abstract: OBJECTIVES: To investigate developmental and environmental factors associated to substance misuse in adolescents seen at a university day-hospital in Brazil and to verify the correlations between those factors and adherence to treatment. To compare factors associated to substance misuse in adolescents with the available scientific literature and to suggest specific preventive interventions for a national policy in Brazil. METHODS: Eighty-six adolescent's guardians were evaluated at admission to the service by using a semistructured interview including sociodemographic data, family relationship, perinatal and pregnancy histories, psychomotor and educational development, social relations, history of previous illnesses and family diseases, including drug abuse. RESULTS: The sample was predominantly male (90%). Adolescents referred from the criminal justice were older than those originating from other sources (16.4 x 15.4 years old p=.00). Forty-four percent of adolescents reported school failure, a level which is two times higher than Brazilian statistics. Forty percent of the sample had criminal involvement, mainly drug dealing. Cannabis was the most prevalent reported drug. Living with both parents was protective, delaying the age of initiation by one year. Domestic violence was more frequent among parents with illicit drugs abuse (38.1% x 12.5%, p<.05). Alcoholism and drug addiction in parents and relatives were about four times higher than those reported for the Brazilian population. No correlation was found between the investigated factors and adherence to treatment. CONCLUSION: Our results indicate that the programs must include treatment of adults and education of parents and parents to be. Withdrawal of treatment occurs in the first month, and seems to be related to factors extrinsic to the adolescent.

Revista de Psiquiatria Clínica , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-60832011000200007
Abstract: background: the irritable bowel syndrome (ibs) is a common clinical disorder, however, still poorly understood since the development of symptoms is strongly related to stress, anxiety and depression. objectives: to review the literature in order to determine whether, in fact, there is the influence of stress and psychiatric comorbidity in the development, diagnosis and treatment for patients with ibs. methods: the review was conducted by searching the database medline and lilacs from 1990 to 2009 using the keywords "stress", "behavior", "psychiatry" and "irritable bowel syndrome". results: were selected 38 articles that related irritable bowel syndrome to the individual reaction to stress and psychiatric comorbidity, including anxiety and depression. discussion: the reactivity of the individual to stress and psychosocial factors play an important etiologic role, although not conclusive, and may interfere with intestinal functioning by altering its motility or spasm, reduction or increase in secretion and, finally, in irritation. it is necessary to develop a methodology for defining and measuring somatization to aid in clinical diagnosis and the inclusion of psychosocial factors related to the development and persistence of symptoms in the diagnostic criteria for ibs.

Abstract: background: the risk of developing posttraumatic stress disorder (ptsd) among incarcerated women may be associated with drug use. objectives: to establish the frequency of ptsd in a sample of incarcerated women and its relationship with drug use inside prison. anxiety and depression, nature of stressors and sociodemographic data were evaluated and the sample of ptsd-positive women was compared with the one of ptsd-negative women. methods: the study had a cross-sectional design. the ptsd was evaluated according to the dsm-iv criteria. drug consumption was assessed with the christo inventory for drug consumption. anxiety was evaluated with the spielberger inventory and depression with the beck inventory. results: among the 134 examined women, 40.3% showed ptsd. there was a significantly higher daily use of cocaine among women with a positive ptsd diagnosis (p < 0.01). daily consumption of illicit drugs was reported by 53% of the assessed women in prison. compared to ptsd-negative women, all participants diagnosed as ptsd-positive showed some degree of depression (p < 0.05). discussion: the high prevalence of ptsd among incarcerated women is comparable to the prevalence of high-risk populations described in other studies. in spite of being in prison, consumption of illicit drugs was high. the association of ptsd with an increased cocaine use suggests a preference to consume stimulant drugs among incarcerated women with ptsd.

Abstract: OBJECTIVES: to determine the knowledge on breastfeeding acquired by women during the pregnant and puerperal period and to check if the breastfeeding benefits for the environment preservation were referred by the mothers. METHODS: this is a documental, descriptive and quantitative by nature research, with secondary data, collected from records of “Vamos amamentar, mam e?” ("Let's breastfeed, mom?") extension project, resultant from the mothers monitoring during the 2008 year, with a total of 116 mothers. RESULTS: most mothers are in the age group from 14 to 18 years (31.89%); 57.75% have only primary level; 62.06% have stable relationship/married; 92.24% report having received information about breastfeeding during prenatal care, among which the highlights were: exclusive breastfeeding until 6 months (45.68%); pregnant women feeding (47.41%); breasts care 28 (24.13%), while: milking, myths’ clarification and non-use of bottles and pacifiers each submitted, only (0.86%), noting also that breastfeeding as an environment preservation factor was not mentioned. CONCLUSION: the mothers hold a reasonable knowledge of breastfeeding. Health professionals have an important role in stimulating and implementing new works focused on a practice that considers this subject from a multidimensional perspective, considering the complex bio-psycho-socio-cultural-environmental-emotional factors involving breastfeeding.
