Abstract: motivation is essential for the students’ involvement at school. for the self-determination theory, the teacher’s motivational style, either controller or promoter of autonomy, contributes to foster the occurrence of qualitatively differentiated types of motivation. in this study of exploratory nature the interactions among two teachers and their students were observed. the sample was composed according to the score of 39 teachers in the motivational style assessment, by means of the application of a self-report instrument, named problems at school. out of this total, two teachers, one with an autonomy promoting motivational style and the other one, a control-oriented one, had their classes observed along seven sessions, with the aim of collecting data for the elaboration of a protocol containing interaction categories. seven other observation sessions were then carried out. the results have indicated that, despite findings of differences between the motivational style assessment performances, the teachers preferably interacted with their students in a controlling manner. however, the autonomy promoter teacher interacted less controllably than the controlling teacher, as regards the management of time reserved for the accomplishment of class activities, as well as offering informative feedback. the educational implications of the results are also discussed.
A model for neural activity in the absence of external stimuli
Aline Duarte,Guilherme Ost
Quantitative Biology , 2014,
Abstract: We study a stochastic process describing the continuous time evolution of the membrane potentials of finite system of neurons in the absence of external stimuli. The values of the membrane potentials evolve under the effect of {\it chemical synapses}, {\it electrical synapses} and a \textit{leak current}. The evolution of the process can be informally described as follows. Each neuron spikes randomly following a point process with rate depending on its membrane potential. When a neuron spikes, its membrane potential is immediately reset to a resting value. Simultaneously, the membrane potential of the neurons which are influenced by it receive an additional positive value. Furthermore, between consecutive spikes, the system follows a deterministic motion due both to electrical synapses and the leak current. Electrical synapses push the system towards its average potential, while the leak current attracts the membrane potential of each neuron to the resting value. We show that in the absence leakage the process converges exponentially fast to an unique invariant measure, whenever the initial configuration is non null. More interesting, when leakage is present, we proved the system stops spiking after a finite amount of time almost surely. This implies that the unique invariant measure is supported only by the null configuration.
Efeitos colaterais cutaneos de quimioterapia com taxanos: O ponto de vista do dermatologista
Donati, Aline;Castro, Luiz Guilherme Martins;
Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0365-05962011000400020
Abstract: chemotherapy with taxanes has recently become part of the treatment for many advanced neoplastic diseases, specially breast and lung cancer. their main noncutaneous adverse reactions include neutropenia and mucositis, which eventually lead to drug discontinuation. cutaneous adverse reactions are frequent and significantly interfere with the patient's quality of life. treatments are poorly effective, but special recommendations may improve symptoms and prevent relapses requiring drug rechallenge
Effects of arsenic exposure in human health
Aline Sueli de Lima Rodrigues,Guilherme Malafaia
Revista Saúde.Com , 2008,
Abstract: In recent years, ingestion of inorganic arsenic from drinking water has emerged as an important public health concern. It enters drinking water supplies from natural deposits in the earth or from agricultural and industrial practices, mainly the mining. The health consequences of chronic arsenic exposure include increased risk for various forms of cancer and numerous pathologic effects, such as cutaneous effects (hyperpigmentation and hyperkeratoses), gastrointestinal effects, vascular effects, diabetes mellitus, and peripheral neuropathy. This way, this study presents through a critical revision of the literature, the more relevant current aspects on the immunological consequences, carcinogenic and resulting genetics of the human intoxication for arsenic. They were identified and analyzed 50 works published on the subject among the years of 1979 and 2008, being used as main sources LILACS-BIREME MEDLINE/Index Medicus, SciELO and PubMed. The specific effects of the intoxication for arsenic about the human health are not still completely elucidated. Thus, is possible that this element affects functions still unknown, becoming important the scientific exploration on the subject.

Abstract: Recent literature on learning very often refers to schema concept. This paper describes the nature and functions of cognitive schemata, a special framework students can use when exposed to new information. Some implications for teaching are derived from this perspective.
Abstract: The first purpose of this study was to investigate how much anxious adolescent boys and girls (N: 406) were in a Math test at Elementary School. A test on anxiety was assessed through Morris et alii's Questionnaire which discriminates worry and emotionality components. Results showed that between 7% and 10% of the subjects were highly anxious during all the Math test, and that female subjects were outnumbered when the emotionality component was considered. In addition, lower scores on that Math test were significantly associated to higher scores in worry component. This result supports the cognitive intentional view of performance deficits, currently defended by several researchers.

Clinics , 2012, DOI: 10.6061/clinics/2012(03)12
Abstract: although it is known that obesity, diabetes, and kawasaki's disease play important roles in systemic inflammation and in the development of both endothelial dysfunction and cardiomyopathy, there is a lack of data regarding the endothelial function of pre-pubertal children suffering from cardiomyopathy. in this study, we performed a systematic review of the literature on pre-pubertal children at risk of developing cardiomyopathy to assess the endothelial function of pre-pubertal children at risk of developing cardiomyopathy. we searched the published literature indexed in pubmed, bireme and scielo using the keywords 'endothelial', 'children', 'pediatric' and 'infant' and then compiled a systematic review. the end points were age, the pubertal stage, sex differences, the method used for the endothelial evaluation and the endothelial values themselves. no studies on children with cardiomyopathy were found. only 11 papers were selected for our complete analysis, where these included reports on the flow-mediated percentage dilatation, the values of which were 9.80±1.80, 5.90±1.29, 4.50±0.70, and 7.10±1.27 for healthy, obese, diabetic and pre-pubertal children with kawasaki's disease, respectively. there was no significant difference in the dilatation, independent of the endothelium, either among the groups or between the genders for both of the measurements in children; similar results have been found in adolescents and adults. the endothelial function in cardiomyopathic children remains unclear because of the lack of data; nevertheless, the known dysfunctions in children with obesity, type 1 diabetes and kawasaki's disease may influence the severity of the cardiovascular symptoms, the prognosis, and the mortality rate. the results of this study encourage future research into the consequences of endothelial dysfunction in pre-pubertal children.
