Abstract: This study aimed to build an accessible online course about breast cancer, focusing on early detection. It is a methodological development study based on the construction of the Health Breast Online Course, accessible for blind women. Content assessment with three health professionals was carried out, in a public university of Ceará, in September 2012. Three blind people educators evaluated pedagogical aspects at a specialized school in Fortaleza, Ceará, in October 2012. The content was modified according to the experts’ suggestions to simple language, logical sequence and emphasis on breast self-exam. After three stages of evaluation, it was considered fully adequate. Appearance was evaluated as fully adequate, able to arouse interest and to promote inclusive education. Stages of content and pedagogical aspects assessment have been addressed satisfactorily. There are new steps that must be performed for the validation. This study expands horizons for researches in this subject and generates reflection on accessible online health education.

Abstract: Homeopathic medicaments are prepared associating the active substance to an inert excipient which becomes an integral part of the remedy. The aim of this research was to analyze the use of mannitol as a homeopathic inert excipient, as a possible substitute to lactose in the preparation of tablets and powder. Research was conducted in homeopathic and manipulation pharmacies in the regions Centro and Icaraí of Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, July to September, 2006. The use of mannitol as inert excipient was detected in all manipulation/homeopathic pharmacies of Niterói researched. The main declared reason for the use of mannitol as an option in the preparation of tablets and powders was the solicitation in medical prescriptions for patients with intolerance to lactose or diabetes. There was no report of undesirable effects related to the use of mannitol according to the people interviewed.

Brazilian Journal of Oceanography , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1679-87592006000100008
Abstract: marine organisms are affected by organotin compounds due to the cumulative, deleterious effects of these latter. the most evident and well known consequence of organotin contamination is imposex, a hormonal disruption that causes a superimposition of sexual male features in females of prosobranchia neogastropod molluscs such as stramonita haemastoma floridana. molluscs accumulate organotins mainly because of their poor ability to eliminate tbt and dbt from their tissues. the aim of this study was to analyze organotin uptake by ingestion experimentally, using uncontaminated subjects (s. haemastoma floridana) fed with organotin-contaminated oysters (crassostrea rhizophorae). a total of 248 gastropods, distributed in 7 tanks with uncontaminated water and contaminated food, were used in this study, a control group being fed uncontaminated oysters. every 15 days, the individuals of one of the tanks were examined for the presence of imposex. development of imposex was measured using the vdsi, rpsi and rpli indexes. the animals had already developed imposex within the first 15 days, all the indexes measured (rpli, rpsi and vdsi) having increased significantly with duration of exposure, indicating that the animals were probablycontaminated by the food and had accumulated the pollutant. new paths of imposex development were also observed.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) cultivars in a low fertility area cultivated for more than two years with Brachiaria brizantha pasture. These conditions are similar to those of farmers who choose to join the organic system without the necessity of passing through the conversion period. A randomized complete block design with four replications was used. The study was conducted as a local evaluation test with cultivars Aporé, BRS Marfim, BRS Vereda, Pérola, BRS Timbó, Xamego, Jalo Precoce, Diamante Negro, BRS Talism , BRS Valente, and BRS Radiante as treatments. Two experiments were carried out during 2003, one in the dry season under irrigation, and the other in the rainy season, in organic farming system and following principles and technical norms of Mokiti Okada Certifier. Under irrigation, there were no yield differences between cultivars. In the rainy season, the cultivars BRS Radiante, Jalo Precoce, and BRS Valente showed significant higher yields as compared with the remaining cultivars. The angular leaf spot (Phaeoisariopsis griseola) was the most

Enzyme Research , 2010, DOI: 10.4061/2010/576872
Abstract: Amylases are one of the most important industrial enzymes produced worldwide, with their major application being in ethanol manufacturing. This work investigated the production of amylases by solid-state fermentation of babassu cake, using the filamentous fungus Aspergillus awamori IOC-3914. Lab-scale experiments were carried out to generate input data for simulations of an industrial plant for amylase production. Additionally to the target enzymes, other hydrolases (cellulases, xylanases, and proteases) were also produced, enriching the final product. The most suitable fermentation time was 144 hours, when exoamylase and endoamylase activities of 40.5 and 42.7?U? were achieved, respectively. A first evaluation showed a large impact of the inoculum propagation medium on production costs. Therefore, five propagation media were compared, and PDA medium presented the best cost-benefit ratio. The credits obtained from sales of fermented cake as a coproduct enabled a significant decrease in the production cost of the enzyme product, down to 10.40?USD? . 1. Introduction Amylases are one of the most important industrial enzymes worldwide [1]. They form an enzyme complex comprising enzymes that act synergistically to break down to glucose the starch polysaccharides amylose, which is composed of linear -1,4-linked glucose units, and amylopectin, which is a glucose-based homopolymer with linear chains and -1,6-linked branches. Thus, amylolytic complexes are formed by three major groups of enzymes: endoamylases, exoamylases, and debranching enzymes: endoamylases (also known as liquefying or depolymerizing enzymes) are composed mainly of -amylases (EC 3.2.1.1) and release oligosaccharides of various lengths by randomly attacking the internal -1,4 linkages. Exoamylases (saccharifying enzymes), composed mostly of glucoamylases (EC 3.2.1.3), release glucose as main product, by cleaving terminal -1,4 bonds. The debranching enzymes, such as pullulanase (EC 3.2.1.41), act predominantly on -1,6 linkages of amylopectin [2, 3]. Within the wide range of applications of amylases, ethanol manufacturing is perhaps the most important one. The two major technologies to convert corn into alcohol are the dry-grind and the wet milling processes. The former is mostly used in the United States and utilizes two different enzyme products that act at medium to high temperatures (60°C and 88°C) and under distinct pH values, thus requiring pH adjustment between the steps of hydrolysis [4]. Cold hydrolysis processes, which consist of raw starch hydrolysis at low temperatures, represent thus
