Identidades, práticas discursivas e os estudos organizacionais: uma proposta teórico-metodológica

Abstract: this paper aims to propose a perspective on identity in organizational studies, considering an integrative view of identity as everyday practices, practices as discursive practices, and discursive practices as oriented by rationalities. oriented by different rationalities, individuals are capable of practicing either an authentic or an instrumental identity in their current lives. applying this assertion to organizational contexts, we emphasize the importance of studying individuals in relation to collective levels. according to ramos' (1981) theory on the delimitation of social systems, in different worlds of social life, individuals are allowed to act according to different rationality types. on the other hand, considering ciampa's (2003) concept of metamorphosis identity, we can also state that individuals are capable of practicing an authentic identity in instrumental-oriented contexts. in this way, they transform themselves and transform repressive conditions. therefore, researchers willing to comprehend identity processes in organizational contexts are expected to identify emergent groups, i.e. collective identities, and then analyze the relationship between collective and individual rationalities in order to reveal identity construction. this paper presents a theoretical articulation of our proposal and, in the final part, indicates possible methodological paths to operationalizing it.

Abstract: the analytical queer commonly related to gender studies is a recent conceptual approach. thus, this article aims primarily to bring out this little explored perspective on the critical analysis of the organizational field. the main concepts and principles related to the ideas contained in queer thought are presented, and the main differences between the analytical queer studies and modernist studies about gender are discussed. the analytical queer is based on foucault concepts about post-identity and fragmentation that substitutes the hegemonic thinking of identity/binary in sexuality and gender studies, this post-identity vision is essential for the development of resistance and development of organizational local practices and may promote an action and intervention in the face of oppressive practices directed not only sexuality but also to other forms of oppression in the workplace. we conclude that the emancipation of the hegemonic practice of contemporary power lies in the post-identity and non-binary world as a possible contribution to the construction of a new social reality in organizations, a reality which can combat the bio-power related devices not only about sexuality, but also to other power devices.

Abstract: the work focuses the concrete and symbolic forms of appropriation of space in a company of the telecommunications sector: telemig/telemar-minas. the dispute for spaces is closely connected to the sense of territoriality. as the individuals defend certain spaces that could interest them, these disputes involve a wide scope of dimensions, such as status, and identity. they possibly reflect symbolic significances in which relationships of power and dominance could be felt. elements of the discourse analysis (da) were employed as methodological instruments for the analyses of twelve years of activities of the company; the data was collected by interviews and study of countless documents - written texts. the movements of unterritorialization and reterritorilization of the social actors' involved were reviewed. those movements, added to the changes in the cultural significances, aim to promote two strategies - first, to provoke a real and symbolic uprooting of the spaces; second, to build a new workspace in the organization.

Abstract: this paper aims at discussing which rationality types may orient contemporary artistic practice. this objective emerged from a research made in grupo galp?o, a twenty-eight years old theatre group from belo horizonte. as we entered into the research locus, by documental analysis, non participant observation and interviews, the rationality issue became a prominent theme to be discussed considering contemporary art production. by means of discourse analysis elements, we could identify in artists' discursive practices meanings about art-making, sometimes related to instrumental rationality and to surviving in the market of cultural goods; and sometimes, on the other hand, were related to substantive rationality and to practices oriented by ethical or esthetical ideals. by the end, despite of economic pressures from the cultural industry context, we understand that authentic art is intrinsically a transcendent practice and keeps moments of freedom and assertion of out-of-the-ordinary life values.

Abstract: A analítica queer comumente relacionada a estudos de gênero é uma abordagem conceitual recente. Este artigo objetiva principalmente trazer à tona essa perspectiva pouco explorada na análise crítica do campo organizacional. Os principais conceitos e princípios relacionados às ideias contidas no pensamento queer s o apresentados, e discutem-se as principais diferen as entre a analítica queer e os estudos modernistas de gênero. A analítica queer está fundamentada em Foucault que defende uma vis o pós-identitária e fragmentada em rela o ao pensamento identitário/binário hegem nico sobre a sexualidade e os estudos de gênero. Tal vis o é fundamental para o fomento de resistência e desenvolvimento de práticas organizacionais locais e empíricas que possam promover uma atua o e interven o diante das práticas opressivas direcionadas n o só à sexualidade, mas também a outras formas de opress o no local de trabalho. Conclui-se que a emancipa o das práticas hegem nicas de poder contemporaneas reside na vis o pós-identitária e n o binária de mundo como possibilidade de contribui o para a constru o de uma nova realidade social nas organiza es, realidade esta que possa combater os dispositivos de biopoder relacionados n o somente à sexualidade, mas também aos demais dispositivos de poder.

Abstract: O objetivo neste artigo foi analisar o processo de constru o da identidade coletiva do Grupo Galp o, um grupo de atores de teatro fundado em 1982 e sediado em Belo Horizonte. O tema da identidade foi abordado em rela o ao contexto da indústria cultural. Para o estudo da identidade, partiu-se do nível individual para entender significados coletivamente partilhados, notadamente em rela o aos objetivos e à estrutura do grupo. Sendo a identidade individual construída a partir das práticas discursivas e sendo essas últimas sempre relacionadas a estruturas sociolinguísticas e aos gêneros discursivos, a identidade individual é revelada em determinado contexto e em rela o a outras identidades, individuais e coletivas. Entende-se, na pesquisa aqui apresentada, que os espa os de intera o delimitados pelas identidades coletivas fornecem limites para a express o das identidades individuais. Entretanto, ocasionalmente, o indivíduo lograria transformar-se e transformar ativamente os espa os que lhe imp em rela es de domina o. Para penetrar na realidade cotidiana do Grupo Galp o, foram realizadas observa es e entrevistas em profundidade, as quais foram tratadas pela análise do discurso. Ao final da pesquisa, foram evidenciados aspectos identitários do Grupo Galp o que comprovam a estabilidade do grupo, mas que revelam tens es entre a racionalidade do mercado de bens culturais e a racionalidade intrínseca à produ o artística autêntica. El objetivo de este artículo fue analizar el proceso de construcción de la identidad colectiva del Grupo Galp o, un grupo de actores de teatro fundado hace veinte y nueve a os y que se queda en Belo Horizonte. Se abordó el tema de la identidad en relación al contexto de la industria cultural. Para estudiar la identidad, se partió del nivel individual para comprenderse los significados colectivamente compartidos, en relación a los objetivos y a la estructura del grupo. Siendo la identidad individual construida a partir de las prácticas discursivas y siendo estas siempre relacionadas a las estructuras sociolinguísticas y a los géneros discursivos, la identidad individual es revelada en un contexto y en relación con las otras identidades, individuales o colectivas. Se comprende, en esta pesquisa, que los espacios de interacción delimitados por las identidades colectivas traen límites para la expresión de las identidades individuales. Ocasionalmente, el individuo lograría transformarse y transformar activamente los espacios que le imponen relaciones de dominación. Environmental discourses in organizations: the case of a Brazilian mobile telecommunications company

Abstract: this paper examines the discourse configurations on the environmental theme in business organizations and its relevance to the understanding of the inclusion of ecological discourses in the discourses of organizational members. a case study into a brazilian telecommunications company offers empirical evidence. it begins with the understanding that organizations adopt several strategies in an attempt to disseminate a certain environmental discourse. as these efforts share space with other pressures, a fragmented discourse emerges. in this paper, the pressures of the environmental theme on organizations are discussed in order to understand this process. the second part of the argument focuses on the context of the case study - brazilian organizations - and, afterwards, the third part deals with ecological discourses in their insertions in organizational interests. the data of the case study were collected through documental research and 40 semi-structured interviews. the analysis was applied based on discourse analysis. in conclusion, an ambiguous discourse configuration was shown that offer elements for the understanding that philanthropy, legal obligation and organizational competitiveness need to be used together to offer legitimacy to the theme of environmental responsibility in business organizations

Abstract: this paper aims to propose an introduction of the spatiality dimension on the concept of identity in two ways: as a conceptual as well an analytical category for the study of identity in the organizing process. in so doing, we have conducted a critical overview of the literature concerning identity in the field of brazilian organizational studies. we have attempted to comprehend the evolution of the theme. moreover, we have resorted, in a inductive way, to some classic theoretical foundations (albert; whetten, 1985; bauman, 2005; berger; luckmann, 2004; erikson, 1976) aiming to better understand the origins and evolution of the concept of identity, in addition to adding more strength to the theoretical proposition. despite the apparent evolution of the theme in brazilian eo's, with assimilation and replication of the most internationally important ideas in the brazilian context, this study is based on the assumption to which the researchers have limited themselves, with few exceptions, to reproduce the classical concept of identity proposed by albert & whetten (1985), without, however, concerning themselves with developing and expanding the concept. despite this restriction, we have proposed here a new analytical and conceptual category: spatiality. this could be incorporated into the framework of the theme of identity, in an effort to develop it and, simultaneously, supply a new element for empirical investigation. obviously, this proposition is merely a starting point, which must be validated by the researchers in the field, using qualitative and quantitative methods.

Abstract: the strategy research in brazil tends do adopt predominantly deterministic models. as a contribution to this kind of research this article adds a normative and non-deterministic perspective where the strategic movement of a telephone company is described and its decision to enter the mobile phone business. adopting the perspective that strategy is a constructed reality in an iterative and contextual way, a qualitative approach was adopted to carry on the field research, using content analysis. the results of the investigations show that strategy is subject to evolution and becomes increasingly complex, nevertheless keeping the characteristics of a process. the findings reinforce the need for interpretive research that would lead to a better understanding of strategy itself prior to jumping to prescriptive models.
