Journal of Coloproctology (Rio de Janeiro) , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S2237-93632011000300006
Abstract: radiotherapy is an important discovery as to the treatment of pelvic tumors. proctitis is frequently observed nowadays, and can be divided into acute and chronic. treatment with 4% formalin solutions has been used with positive results in literature. objective: to evaluate the effectiveness and morbidity rates related to the use of 4%formalin in hemorrhagic chronic actinic proctitis. methods: we evaluated the sigmoidoscopy records and reports of 11 patients with chronic hemorrhagic actinic proctitis from february to december 2010, coming from the serbian colorectal university hospital of the state of sergipe. results: the study was comprised of 11 patients (36.36% were females and 63.63% were males). mean age was 67.7 years. mean time between the end of radiotherapy and the onset of symptoms was 6.6 months. the treatment was completely effective in 27.27% of the cases, and reduced rectal bleeding in 100% of patients. the following main complications were observed: chills (9%), tenesmus (18.18%) and mild stenosis (9%). conclusions: the 4%formalin solution has fewer side effects, and its administration is very inexpensive. the treatment is effective and reduces bleeding in almost 100% of cases.
Effect of Breed and Sex on Pork Meat Sensory Evaluation  [PDF]
Sandra Rodrigues, Alfredo Teixeira
Food and Nutrition Sciences (FNS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/fns.2014.57070
Abstract:

This work had an objective to evaluate the sensory quality of two categories of pork meat from a commercial pork meat and a selected meat from the Portuguese black pork (Preto Alentejano breed). Sixteen animals were used, 8 females and 8 males from each breed. Animals had 80 - 100 kg of live weight. The longissimus muscle between the 5th thoracic vertebra and the 10th lumbar vertebra was used in the analysis. Sensory analysis was performed by a trained taste panel of 10 elements, in 5 sessions. All evaluation conditions were standardized, and the attributes studied were odor intensity, toughness, juiciness and flavor intensity. The taste panel found differences mainly between breeds. The panellists scored Preto Alentejano meat as being juicier, tenderer, and with richer taste than Commercial meat. The higher juiciness score of Preto Alentejano meat was probably attributable to the higher intramuscular fat content compared with Commercial meat. The Commercial pork was characterized mainly by high toughness.

Abstract: Essential oils are secondary metabolites whose biological properties have been studied with emphasis on antimicrobial activity. Hyptis carpinifolia Benth (Rosmaninho) is used in folk medicine in the fight against colds and rheumatism. The objective of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of the essential oil from H. carpinifolia. The essential oil was extracted by hydrodistillation using a modified Clevenger apparatus. The biological activity was determined using the Agar Cavity Diffusion technique to evaluate the effect of concentrations of 500, 250, 125, 62.5, 31.25, 15.62, 7.81 and 3.9 μg·mL-1 on the bacteria Escherichia coli, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella Choleraesuis, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The fungicidal potential was evaluated by the method of dilution in agar, and the percentage inhibition of mycelial growth of Alternaria alternata, Botrytis cinerea and Fusarium oxysporum was evaluated. The dilutions tested were 1000, 750, 500, 250 and 100 μL·L-1. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of the essential oil for L. monocytogenes, S. aureus and E. coli were 31.25;

Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the phenotypic adaptability and stability for grain yield of the catuaí group of coffee cultivars by the method annicchiarico. the experiments were installed and carried out in the counties of três pontas, campos altos and capelinha, minas gerais state, brazil. the experiments were carried out in a randomized complete block design, with four replicates and six plants per plot. the treatments were constituted by 15 cultivars of the catuaí group and five controls. the grain yield evaluations were performed in the six harvests from 2003/2004 to 2008/2009 growing seasons. then, the joint analysis of the three localities and the evaluation of cultivars adaptability and stability were performed. the parameters floating beans and high sieve grains were carried out considering the 2008/2009 harvest. the cultivars catuaí vermelho iac 15, catuaí amarelo iac 30, catuaí amarelo iac 62 and catuaí vermelho iac 72 were the most promising because they allied higher stability and adaptability in favorable and unfavorable environments with mean high yield. the cultivars catuaí vermelho iac 100, catuaí amarelo iac 86, rubi mg 1192 and catuaí vermelho iac 144 have the highest percentage of bean size grains. all the cultivars showed low percentage of floating grains
A Grande Saúde: uma introdu??o à medicina do Corpo sem órg?os
Teixeira, Ricardo Rodrigues;
Interface - Comunica??o, Saúde, Educa??o , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-32832004000100004
Abstract: availing oneself of spinoza's ethics as a starting point and especially of the interpretation of his philosophy according to deleuze & guattari, we propose the frame of reference of grand health and outline what medicine based on this idea might consist of. another concept proposed is that of the body with no organs, conceived to deal with the plane on which grand health is experienced: the plane of intensities experienced as an ongoing fluctuation of powers, appetites and desires. this deleuzian interpretation of spinoza allows us to glimpse the basis for a hypothetical spinozistic medicine, with its physiology of the body with no organs, its "pathology", understood herein as affectology, its "science of signals and symptoms" or semiotics and what might be its "therapeutics", governed by the ideal of grand health.

Teixeira, Ricardo Rodrigues;
Interface - Comunica??o, Saúde, Educa??o , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-32832005000200002
Abstract: the purpose of this article is to explore some of the possible contributions of the emerging field of collective intelligence to healthcare investigations, in particular to the examination of the actions of healthcare services. to this end, a brief review of the general and specific literature on the subject is necessary, from which one can extract elements for outlining a first level of studies in the healthcare field, from this perspective. we also try to highlight the connection of this level of studies with the problems of the field of collective health, widely explained already. finally, we discuss its ethical and political implications.
Humaniza??o e Aten??o Primária à Saúde
Teixeira,Ricardo Rodrigues;
Ciência & Saúde Coletiva , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-81232005000300016
Abstract: the principal aim of this article is to discuss the possible senses of humanization in the production of primary health care. for the fulfillment of this aim, the article opens a brief interlocution with the reference literature about humanization of health services identifying those senses that come closer to the approach that will be adopted here. from that point, it performs a discussion that will bring other senses to the proposals of humanization not yet explored in this debate, centralizing in a philosophical questioning of the ways of defining the human. at the end, considering determined characteristics of the production of primary health care, it explores how these new senses could contribute not only on the humanization of services, but how the services can contribute to our own humanization.
Agenciamentos tecnosemiológicos e produ??o de subjetividade: contribui??o para o debate sobre a trans-forma??o do sujeito na saúde
Teixeira,Ricardo Rodrigues;
Ciência & Saúde Coletiva , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-81232001000100004
Abstract: this article intends to raise a few points to be debated, about the transformation of the subject in the health area. it offers a conceptual frame that seems to be especially useful to explore the relationships between some "objective conditions" that we produce as social workers - and will be treated in terms of a techno-semiotic environment -, and the collective processes of subjectivity production.
