Abstract: objectives: evaluate the relationship between abdominal injuries and the introduction of guide wire in experimental hip surgery, to propose a scoring system and a medical management based on the distance traveled by the guide wire from the quadrilateral plate until the damaged anatomical structure. material and methods: 18 cadaveric hips, a steimann pin of 3.2 x 300mm, an electric drill and a caliper were used. the wire was inserted in the center of the femoral neck through a lateral approach in the hip under direct visualization. via median abdominal extended approach to the pelvic region, the quadrilateral plate was observed until the wire crossed it. from this point the wire was further inserted 140 mm in order to observe its abdominal path and describe the lesions presented based on the distance traveled. results: there were five lesions (27%) in the sigmoid colon, and one transfixing injury (5%) of the obturator nerve. the common iliac arteries and veins from the contralateral hip were not injured. conclusion: the guide wire must not exceed the quadrilateral plate. preventive measures are important in the pre- and intra-operatory stages and the score and medical management proposed in this study should be carefully observed in cases of injury.

Abstract: objective: to carry out isolated and comparative evaluations of the measurements of the set eccentric guide plates used in 4.5mm surgical implants, and to determine the effect of these measurements on compression strength. methods: four eccentric guides, (or guide plates?) four large dynamic compression plates (l-dcp) from four local manufacturers, and a vonder? 200 mm caliper brand were used. five standard parameter measurements were created for the set eccentric guide-plate, which were identified as a to e. four sets were made, using materials of the same factory, and identified as groups i to iv. the analyses were performed by measuring all the parameters from a ventral view of the plate, with the eccentric guide placed in the plate hole. results: groups i and ii showed the same values for all the parameters. all the groups showed the same measurements for e = 8.15 e b = 3.60. group iii: a = 8.10mm, c = 3.25mm, d = 1.25mm. group iv: a = 7.00mm, c = 3.10mm, d = 0.30mm. maximum compression force was (f max.): group i 80.58 n, group. ii: f max. 81.63 n, group. iii: f max. 36.32n, group. iv: f max. 37.52n conclusion: the measurements evaluated show a lack of standardization in the manufacture of orthopedic instruments and its effects on the values for compression strength. level of evidence: level iii, analytical study.
Contabilidade de custos vs. contabilidade de ganhos: respostas às exigências da produ??o enxuta

Abstract: lean production has provoked significant changes in companies. these changes have not being followed by the economic management systems, which are developed based on mistaken assumptions made by mass production which argues that isolated local optimizations can lead to the global optimization of the company. in this way, it can be affirmed that cost accounting cannot provide the necessary information for decision making in lean companies. on the other hand, consistency is evidenced between the principles of the lean production and the assumptions that support the throughput accounting of the theory of constraints. therefore, the objective of this article is to present arguments that corroborate these assertions and justify the necessity for the use of the throughput accounting as a theoretical basis for the proposal of an economic management method for lean production.
Evaluation of two methods of tracings for implants in panoramic radiographs
Freitas, Deborah Queiroz de;Montebello Filho, Agenor;
Journal of Applied Oral Science , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1678-77572004000100015
Abstract: in the last years, computer programs have appeared in order to help dental practitioners in implants planning. these programs aim to facilitate the acquisition of adequate measures in digitalized radiographs. the aims of this study were: to evaluate the intra-examiner agreement in the acquisition of measures using two methods (manual and computer program - radioimp), comparing their performances. three examiners analyzed twenty-one panoramic radiographs. they used the two methods in two occasions. in the manual method, the examiners made a tracing on a paper fixed to the images and measured nine regions with a caliper. the images were digitalized and showed in a computer screen to be analyzed in the computer program. the examiners acquired measures of the same regions by the manual method. vertical measures of spheres in the images were acquired in order to discount the magnifying factor of the technique. through statistics analysis (p=.05), it was possible to conclude that there were differences in intra-examiner agreement and the examiners had greater difficulty in reproducing the measures when they used the computer program; the measures acquired by the manual method were closer to the real ones.

Abstract: the state of ceará, located in northeast brazil, has a predominantly semi-arid climate. to guide future inventories of the flora, a preliminary survey of collections in the state was made, where we analyzed sampling effort and species richness of asteraceae, euphorbiaceae, fabaceae, poaceae and rubiaceae. geographic distribution of the samples was correlated to the seven phytoecological units of ceará state: caatinga arbustiva, caatinga arbórea, carrasco, cerrad?o, complexo litoraneo, mata seca and mata úmida. the data were obtained from the prisco bezerra herbarium (eac) collection and were combined using the software brahms. from 1933 to august 2008, this collection registered the following: 11,551 exsiccatae (exs.) representing 1,209 species (spp.). this total number of exsiccatae is distributed as follows among the phytoecological units: mata úmida 27% exs. and 33% spp., complexo litoraneo 24% exs. and 24% spp., caatinga arbustiva 16% exs. and 19% spp., carrasco 13% exs. and 17% spp., mata seca 10% exs. and 9% spp., caatinga arbórea 8% exs. and 12% and cerrad?o 2% exs. and 3% spp. these data reveal greater collection effort and species richness in areas of mata úmida and complexo litoraneo, followed by areas of caatinga arbustiva and caatinga arbórea. with only 5% of ceara's territory, sampling in mata úmida surpasses that in caatingas, the latter with 70% of the state's territory. therefore, a satisfactory number of collections in mata úmida was observed to the detriment of other units, making it necessary to draw up new projects aimed at a greater effort in these sub-sampling collection areas.
