Abstract: This study aimed to quantitative evaluate the implantation of paca’s peritoneum, a new biomaterial option, preserved in 300% supersaturated sugar solution or 98% glycerin on the abdominal wall of Wistar rats. 60 males, weighing between 150 and 200 g, are organized into the following experimental groups: control group (GI); group peritoneum preserved in 300% supersaturated sugar solution (GII); and group peritoneum preserved in 98% glycerin (GIII). Each group had 20 animals. Five rats from each group underwent euthanasia at four different moments: 7th, 15th, 30th, and 60th post-operatory day for histological and stereological evaluations of the graft/native tissue interface. On histological examination, one found out an extensive presence of inflammatory infiltrate at the early periods (7th and 15th day) and an extensive presence of connective tissue at the late moments (30th and 60th day). Through stereological analysis, one found out that the number of mononuclear cells decreased throughout the evaluation moments. One concluded that the paca’s peritoneum as a biological membrane preserved in 98% glycerin, when implanted on the abdominal wall of rats, microscopically allowed one to obtain, through stereological analyses, a lower inflammatory response than the paca’s peritoneum preserved in 300% supersaturated sugar solution.

Acta Ortopédica Brasileira , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-78522010000600004
Abstract: objective: the present study evaluated the osteogenic potential of free periosteum graft in combination with collagen membranes. methods: twenty white wistar rats aged 100 days underwent surgery to create a bone defect measuring 2.5-3.0 mm in length in the diaphysis of the fibula. after thirty days, the animals were divided into two groups. group i received periosteum along with a collagen membrane, while group ii received only a collagen membrane. the animals were x-rayed before the implant surgery and 15 or 30 days post-operation. results: the results demonstrated that free periosteum graft in combination with collagen membranes was not efficient in the repair of bone defects. conclusion: we suggest that nonvascularized periosteal grafts do not show potential to form new bone, and that making the implant 30 days after the creation of the bone defect may have interfered negatively in osteogenic process.

Leme, Vanessa Barbosa Romera;Bolsoni-Silva, Alessandra Turini;Carrara, Kester;
Paidéia (Ribeir?o Preto) , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-863X2009000200012
Abstract: this study addresses the relevance of some methodological strategies of the applied behavior analysis to examine parental educative practices. an instrument and a concept related to the data collection and analysis are discussed from a theoretical and applied perspective: verbal reports and descriptive functional behavioral analysis. the conclusion, considering the limitations of the reports, is that the information acquired using this strategy in addition to the descriptive functional behavioral analysis permitted the inference of some hypotheses concerning the behavior of parents and children, which can be used in actions aimed to investigate and intervene on behavioral problems and social skills.

Abstract: families that stimulate social skills behaviors seem to favor their children's social development. thus, to intervene in the parents' relationship seems to be a means to minimize certain behavior problems. for an effective intervention it is recommended to characterize the demands of individuals that seek assistance, be it through the characterization of the parents'/caretakers' behaviors, as well as through the characterization of the children's/adolescent's skills and/or difficulties. the objective of the research was to characterize, through a semi-structured clinical interview, complaints and difficulties of 59 parents/caretakers that looked for psychological assistance in a center of applied psychology. the main results are: a) complaints of externalizing problems, such as aggressiveness, disobedience and obstinacies; b) difficulties of the parents/caretakers regarding the skills involved in establishing limits (to beat the child/adolescent and not have consistency) and in communication. this paper discusses the interdependence between the adults' behaviors and the ones exhibited by children/adolescents and repercussions for future interventions.
