An environmentally friendly preparation of iodohydrins from alkenes mediated by clay-minerals

Abstract: Iodohydrins are useful intermediates in organic synthesis for the preparation of epoxides. Herein is reported the preparation of iodohydrins in good yields by the reaction of alkenes (ciclohexene, styrene, a-methylstyrene, and 1-octene) with iodine and water at room temperature, in presence of acid commercial clays (K-10 and KSF) and natural Brazilian clays (F-101 and F-117), being the best results obtained with Brazilian clays (61-90%). The XRD results confirmed that the clays belong to the smectite clay-mineral group and K-10, KSF and F-117 have other clay-minerals in their structures.

Abstract: the natural brazilian clays f-101, f-117 and kaolin were characterized by chemical and textural analysis, xrd, and 27al and 29si mas-nmr. the f-101 clay is a smectite, while f-117 is an interstratified structure with smectite, kaolinite and mica as clay-minerals. kaolin is mainly kaolinite. f-101 and f-117 clays were more efficient catalysts for the coiodination of styrene and cyclohexene with water and alcohols to produce iodohydrins and b-iodoethers, respectively, than the kaolin and montmorillonite k-10 clay.

Abstract: the commercial brazilian clay bentonit brasgel? was characterized by chemical and textural analyses, xrd, and 27al and 29si mas-nmr, that indicated the presence of a-quartz and smectite as clay-minerals. this natural clay proved to be an efficient catalyst for the conversion of alkenes into epoxides by the reaction with iodine/water followed by in situ addition of koh in hexane (80-91 % yield). similar results were obtained with bentonit brasgel? intercalated with ag(i).

Abstract: the aphids aphis gossypii and myzus persicae are cosmopolitan, poliphagous and damage cultivated plants. the effects of the entomopathogenic fungi beauveria bassiana (isolate ibcb 66), metarhizium anisopliae (isolate ibcb 121), paecilomyces fumosoroseus (isolate ibcb 141) and lecanicillium (= verticillium) lecanii (isolate jab 02) on third instar nymphs of a. gossypii and m. persicae were evaluated in the laboratory at 25°c, 70 ± 10% rh and 12h photophase. the aphids were transferred to petri dishes with a foliar disk (cotton or pepper) with a layer of 1 cm tick of agar-water. the fungi were applied in a suspension containing 1.0 x 106 to 1.0 x 108 conidia/ml. in the control treatment 1 ml of sterilized water was added to the foliar disks. the mortality of aphids was evaluated daily. b. bassiana and m. anisopliae caused 100% mortality at the seventh day after inoculation, for both species. l. lecanii was the fungus that provided mortality later in the aphids and m. persicae was more susceptible to both fungi than a. gossypii.

Abstract: the susceptibility of two isolates of beauveria bassiana (bals.) vuill. against sitophilus oryzae (l.), s. zeamais (motsch.) and rhyzopertha dominica (fabr.) was determined. boxes containing stored rice previously inoculated with conidia of two b. bassiana isolates were infested with the three insect species and maintained at 26 ± 0.5°c, 70 ± 10% of rh, and photophase of 12 hours. ali three species were susceptible to both fungal isolates. both isolates were efficient against s. oryzae, at the concentration of 0.5 g conidia/ 100 g of grain. the isolate 604 was the most efficient against s. zeamais, at the concentration of 0.1 g conidia/100 g of grain. dosages of 0.0l g (isolate 476) and 0.05 g (isolate 604)/100 g of grain provided high mortality leveis of r. dominica, confirming the higher susceptibility of this species to the pathogen.

Abstract: the fungitoxic effects of imidacloprid and fipronil on the entomopathogenic fungi beauveria bassiana (bals.) vuill. and metarhizium anisopliae (metsch.) sorok. were evaluated. the colony radial growth and conidial production were measured in the presence of the insecticides added to the culture medium. imidacloprid was less toxic to the fungi than fipronil, and m. anisopliae was less affected by either insecticide than b. bassiana. the changes in the grooming behavior of heterotermes tenuis (hagen) under the action of the insecticides was also evaluated. using scanning electron microscopy, conidia of b. bassiana and m. anisopliae were observed on the surface of the insect tegument at different times after inoculation. imidacloprid at sublethal concentrations affected the grooming behavior of h. tenuis, while fipronil did not alter this behavior.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of trichoderma sp. on the development of beauveria bassiana and metarhizium anisopliae. the fungus trichoderma sp. was inoculated on pda culture medium, 0, 48, 120 and 168 hours after inoculation of the same plates with either b. bassiana (isolate 634) or m. anisopliae (isolate e-9). the radial growth of fungal colonies was measured 48 and 120 hours after trichoderma sp. inoculation. trichoderma sp. affected the development of both entomopathogenic fungi when inoculated simultaneously or 48 hours later. b. bassiana and m. anisopliae had normal development when inoculated 168 hours before trichoderma sp. the effect of a toxic extract from trichoderma sp. on the entomopathogenic fungi was also evaluated. aliquots of 0.1, 0.5, 1.0 and 5.0 ml of extract were added to 100 ml of pda medium, used to grow the entomopathogens. the radial growth of b. bassiana and m. anisopliae colonies grown in the presence of the extract were measured and the number of conidia produced per colony was counted. with 5% of extract in the medium, mycelial growth and conidiogenesis of b. bassiana decreased. m. anisopliae growth was affected by culture medium containing 1% or more of the extract.

Abstract: Este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar o efeito de Trichoderma sp. no desenvolvimento de Beauveria bassiana e Metarhizium anisopliae. Trichoderma sp., B. bassiana (isolado 634) e M. anisopliae (isolado E-9) foram inoculados em meio BDA, com intervalos de 0, 48, 120 e 168 horas entre a inocula o de Trichoderma sp. e dos entomopatógenos. Avaliou-se o crescimento radial das col nias nos períodos de 48 e 120 horas após a inocula o de Trichoderma sp., sendo que este afetou o desenvolvimento dos entomopatógenos quando inoculado simultaneamente ou após 48 horas. B. bassiana e M. anisopliae desenvolveram-se normalmente quando inoculados 168 horas antes de Trichoderma sp.. Também foi avaliado o efeito de um extrato de Trichoderma sp. sobre os entomopatógenos, com a adi o de 0,1; 0,5; 1,0 e 5,0 ml de extrato/100,0 ml de meio, onde foram inoculados os entomopatógenos. Foram medidos os diametros de col nias e o número de conídios produzidos por B. bassiana e M. anisopliae na presen a do extrato. A concentra o de 5,0 ml de extrato/100,0 ml de meio alterou o crescimento e a conidiogênese de B. bassiana. O fungo M. anisopliae foi afetado a partir da adi o de 1,0 ml de extrato/100,0 ml de meio.
Laparocopic ureteral reimplantation in ureteral stenosis after gynecologic laparoscopic surgery

Abstract: pelvic surgery is the most common cause of iatrogenic ureteral injury, and traditionally repair of such injuries requires laparotomy. we report the case of a 48-year-old woman with an iatrogenic ureteral injury after laparoscopic ophorectomy which was laparoscopically reimplanted using the lich-gregoire technique. total operating time was 150 minutes and estimated blood loss was 100 ml. two months after surgery she is asymptomatic with normal renal function.
