International Linkages of the Indian Commodity Futures Markets  [PDF]
Brajesh Kumar, Ajay Pandey
Modern Economy (ME) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/me.2011.23027
Abstract: This paper investigates the cross market linkages of Indian commodity futures for nine commodities with futures markets outside India. These commodities range from highly tradable commodities to less tradable agricultural commodities. We analyze the cross market linkages in terms of return and volatility spillovers. The nine commodities consist of two agricultural commodities: Soybean, and Corn, three metals: Aluminum, Copper and Zinc, two precious metals: Gold and Silver, and two energy commodities: Crude oil and Natural gas. Return spillover is investigated through Johansen’s cointegration test, error correction model, Granger causality test and variance decomposition techniques. We apply Bivariate GARCH model (BEKK) to investtigate volatility spillover between India and other World markets. We find that futures prices of agricultural commodities traded at National Commodity Derivatives Exchange, India (NCDEX) and Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT), prices of precious metals traded at Multi Commodity Exchange, India (MCX) and NYMEX, prices of industrial metals traded at MCX and the London Metal Exchange (LME) and prices of energy commodities traded at MCX and NYMEX are cointegrated. In case of commodities, it is found that world markets have bigger (unidirectional) impact on Indian markets. In bivariate model, we found bi-directional return spillover between MCX and LME markets. However, effect of LME on MCX is stronger than the effect of MCX on LME. Results of return and volatility spillovers indicate that the Indian commodity futures markets function as a satellite market and assimilate information from the world market.
Projective Tensor Products of C*-Algebras  [PDF]

Advances in Pure Mathematics (APM) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/apm.2014.45023

For C*-algebras A and B, the constant involved in the canonical embedding of \"\"into \"\"is shown to be \"\" . We also consider the corresponding operator space version of this embedding. Ideal structure of \"\" is obtained in case A or B has only finitely many closed ideals.

Recent Advances in the Quest for Treatment and Management of Alzheimer and Other Dementia  [PDF]

Abstract: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease distinguished by progressive cognitive deterioration along with declining activities of daily living and behavioral changes. It is the commonest type of pre-senile and senile dementia. Many new therapeutic strategies have been developed in the last few years. We aimed at reviewing the evidence supporting these new therapeutic targets, including anti-amyloid and anti-Tau strategies. This review is focused on important future direction in investigation of potential therapeutic targets for AD drug discovery. Medical advances have improved treatment of many diseases but still there is a need to establish new tools for early diagnosis of AD. A thorough comprehensive understanding of the unexplored mechanism can ameliorate the diagnostic and therapeutic management of AD. There have been several disease-modifying therapeutic strategies for AD in the last few years and are presently at various phases of investigation. Few of them have shown promising results, but their safety and efficacy need to be further explored.
Impact of Internal Displacement in Jammu and Kashmir: Study of Pakistan occupied Kashmir Refugees
Ajay Kumar
Indian Streams Research Journal , 2012,
Abstract: In the state of Jammu and Kashmir Pakistan occupied Kashmir (Pok) refugees migrated from PoK are living in sub-human conditions in 34 camps in Jammu province for last 64 years. Moreover these displaced refugees lack official status because PoK is not a foreign soil and are yet to be settled and have been deprived of all the benefits given to refugees according to national and international law. The study analyses the impact of internal displacement on these refugees. It has also tried to highlight their different issues, problems and sets of demands. It also studies the role of Government in their rehabilitation. PoK refugees are scattered in 34 camps in Jammu province. Therefore the stratified random sampling method is used. Interview schedule is used to collect data. Data includes both primary and secondary sources.
Prediction of double cross hybrid performance in maize (Zea mays L.)

Electronic Journal of Plant Breeding , 2010,
Abstract: A total of ten inbred lines of maize was used to predict the performance of double cross hybrids. The performance of predicted630 double crosses was estimated on the basis of performance of their constituent single crosses. The predicted meanperformance for grain yield per plant of 630 double crosses varied from 91.52 [(CML-83) x (CML-141)] x [(CML-3) x (CML-117)] to 142.88 g [(CML-601-S4-2-3) x (CML-107)] x [(CML-83) x (Pop 34-C5-HC-86-2-1# (x) 5-b)]. The expected yieldperformance of these crosses was 142.83, 142.15, 140.00 and 130.00 138.67 g/plant respectively, whereas the grain yield perplant of the best check variety, Suwan was only 120.26 g. The double cross [(CM 601-S4-2-3) x (CML-107)] x [(CML-107)] x[(CML-83)] x (Pop 34-C5-HC-86-2-1#(x) 5-b)] predicted better for most of the characters viz., earliness in 50 per cent silkingand maturity, short plant and ear height, longer and thicker ears, average 500 kernel weight and number of kernel rows, shortvegetative growth, medium grain filling and average grain moisture content. Similarly the second top ranking double cross[(M9 x CM-601)-(x)-S4-1) x (Pop 30-C3-P5-83)] x [(CML-3) x (CML-117)] was also expected to perform better for most ofthe desirable traits. Therefore, these two crosses may be used as double cross hybrids for breeding programme
