Paquito M. Villanueva, Vilma B. Ramos, Larcy V. Villaroman, Aileen A. Villanueva
Open Access Library Journal (OALib Journal) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/oalib.1104168
Abstract:
This paper gives an overview of the Mandatory Representation of the Indigenous People of the Philippines. At present, the indigenous peoples and other minority groups are under-represented in the country’s local legislature. This paper gives rise to the rights of indigenous peoples’ mandatory representation in all local government sanggunians at all levels and that IPMR shall be selected in accordance with the guidelines adopted and promulgated by themselves. The Mandatory Representatives represent the general concerns and welfare of all the ICCs/IPs. The study used descriptive research method and seeks to determine the status of the IPMR to describe the status of social, economic, cultural and political development initiated by them, it also seeks to identify challenges related to IPMR’s political isolation, economic marginalization and socio-cultural orientation hindering effectiveness of their performance and also to determine future trajectories of the Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representation. The study was derived from the IPMR of a patriarchal tribe known as Dumagat from Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija and the IPMR OF Palayan City composed of the tribes: Aeta, Applay, Bago, Kankanaey, Kalanguya, Dumagat and Ibaloi. The study found out that IPMRs are facing several challenges that hamper their performance and the study showed the need to LGUs to strictly comply with the mandate of RA 8371 recognizing the rights of Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative.

Kim Fe Pauleen A. Villanueva, Aileen A. Villanueva, Dennis U. Lasig, Ryan B. Esteban, Marvin Lester M. Cuaresma
Open Access Library Journal (OALib Journal) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/oalib.1105899
Abstract:
The research is about the assessment of the Managerial Skills and Deci-sion-Making Ability of the Local Chief Executives of the Third District of Nueva Ecija, Philippines. The study argued that Managerial Skills and “De-cision-making Ability” must go together to effect change in the local gov-ernance and as an important domain of leadership. The leadership of the Local Chief Executives of the Third District of Nueva Ecija could be measured in terms of managerial skills and decision-making ability. This must go together to effect change in local governance. The study used the Descriptive Survey Method. This method involves the collection of data in order to test hypotheses or answer questions. With devolved powers from the national government, the local government officers specifically local chief executives such as mayor and barangay chairmen, together with the public administrators of their respective units, are expected to manage their work, people, and environment effectively, efficiently lead them towards the achievement of their goals and be able to relate these with local governance buzzwords like transparency, accountability, participation, equity, efficiency, effectiveness, and development. Data were collected by means of a survey questionnaire. The study confirmed that managerial skills and decision making ability are essential qualifications in good governance. The offshoot of the two domains is the essence of effective leadership which stems from the fact that leaders have the capacity to translate visions into actions. Central to this is their ability to make sound decisions and manage with efficiency the work of a civil servant.
Body-focused Anxiety in Women: Associations with Internalization of the Thin-ideal, Dieting Frequency, Body Mass Index and Media Effects  [PDF]
Aileen Pidgeon, Rachel A. Harker
Open Journal of Medical Psychology (OJMP) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ojmp.2013.24B004
Abstract:

Exposure to media that portrays thin women as ideal and attractive can lead to women internalizing the thin ideal, which results in incorporating societal standards of thinness into belief systems. Internalization of the thin-ideal is associated with numerous detrimental effects on women, including decreased levels of self-esteem and increased levels of body-focused anxiety, negative emotions and disordered eating. The present study utilized a sample of women (N = 208) aged between 18 and 67 years (M = 29.44, SD = 13.08) to examine the relationship between internalization of the thin- ideal, body-focused anxiety, body mass index (BMI), and dieting frequency. Correlational, regression and mediation analyses conducted on the data showed that internalization of the thin-ideal, BMI and dieting frequency significantly contributed to body-focused anxiety in women. In addition, body-focused anxiety fully mediated the relationship between internalization of the thin-ideal and dieting frequency among women. BMI did not moderate the relationship between internalization of the thin-ideal and body-focused, indicating that women who internalize the thin-ideal are less vulnerable to dieting unless experiencing body-focused anxiety. The results of the current study enhance our understanding of the relationship between internalization of the thin-ideal, body-focused anxiety, BMI, and dieting frequency among women. Clinical implications will be discussed.

To evalúate the presence of supragingival bacterial plaque and Porphyromona gingivalis before and after the implementation of an educational program for oral hygiene. La Protección Jurídica de los Bienes Culturales en el Derecho Espa?ol

Abstract: abstract the article examines the status of objects which embody elements or values of the spanish culture. first, the legal notion of cultural objects is defined, considering national and supranational law. we then review the historical background of the protection of cultural objects in spanish law, turning next to the current legal framework for the protection of the historical patrimony, both from a supranational normative perspective (unesco, the council of europe, the european union, and the unidroit agreement), and the spanish national law found in the constitution, the national law, and the law of the autonomous regions. throughout the article the notion is stressed that the complexity we find in the protection of cultural objects derives in part from the uneasy relationship between jurisprudence and the concept of culture, and secondly, from the political and jurisdictional division enacted by the spanish constitution of 1978, which has brought about, as in other countries following a "federal" model of distribution of powers, massive amounts of legislation which makes it difficult for the legal operators to find the applicable law for a given case.
Villanueva,Ana María;
Núcleo , 2011,
Abstract: this empirical study focuses on the cross-linguistic influence of previously known languages on the acquisition of the syntax of spanish as a foreign language. the central objective is to observe if acquired languages promote the acquisition of spanish syntax as a third or fourth language. the subjects in this study are french-speaking students of spanish in a university environment at the undergraduate level in an exchange program. the instrument used was a grammatical judgment test to control certain syntactic structures of three languages: french (students? native language), english (foreign language) and spanish (target language). the analysis focuses on data from two study groups: those for whom spanish is the l3 and those for whom spanish is the l4. results showed a major transfer from french (l1) than english (l2) in both language groups due to typological similarities and both groups performed similarly; this is partially consistent with a similar study in the acquisition of french as a foreign language (villanueva, in press).

This paper presents a patient suffering from pathological cataract and big descemetocele in his left eye due to a sequelae of serious ulcer of the cornea and corneal perforation.
