World Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery (WJCS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/wjcs.2014.41002
Abstract: Background: Although the radial artery (RA) is mostly selected for the creating of arterio-venous fistula (AVF) in end-stage renal disease patients (ESRDP), it still represents a suitable site to simply assess systemic calcification. Our goal of this study was to research the RA before the arteriovenous fistula creation in ESRDP and evaluate the risk factor determinants. Material and Methods: The RA has been determined to estimate vascular calcification in 67 ESRDPs on dialysis by doppler ultrasonography (USG). If there was any pathologic conditions, direct examination of the forehand soft tissue roentgenograms as a simply method was made. Preoperative spectral Doppler sonography measured radial artery peak systolic velocity during tight fist clenching for 3 minutes and after fist relaxation. Vessel diameters and peak systolic velocity were assessed for predictive value based on subsequent fistula adequacy. RA calcification was scored from Grade 0 which was defined as no calcification to Grade 4 which was described as severe calcification from proximal to distal end of RA. Results: Doppler USG has shown that the major or minor RA calcification was detected in 11 patients (16.5%). In these patients, direct roentgenogram also demonstrated RA calcific disease. Total and LDL cholesterol levels, gender and smoking status have no influence on calcification scores. When the dialysis periods are concerned, there was no correlation with the RA calcification. Serum calcium and phosphate levels, rather than calcium-phosphate products, and age were correlated with high calcification scores. The highest prevalence of RA calcification was also found in diabetic group. Conclusion: Our data indicate that RA calcification is highly prevalent among ESRDP, with the highest prevalence among diabetics. The RA was used as an A-V fistual creation in ESRDPs, which may be risky since the calcification percentage is higher. Therefore, a simple roentgenographic survey may help to identify patients with severe calcified RA. Because our roengenographyc results were correlated with doppler

Journal of Animal and Veterinary Advances , 2012, DOI: 10.3923/javaa.2011.246.250
Abstract: In the present study, the effect of stocking density on chick performance, internal organ weights and blood parameters were investigated in broilers. A total of 327 Ross 308 broilers divided into 3 stocking density groups (9, 13 and 17 birds m-2). The live weight gain of broilers grown at density of 13 birds m-2 was higher (p<0.01) than those at the other two densities during the 2nd and 3rd weeks (p<0.01). Birds in highest stocking density group (17 birds m-2) had the lowest live weight gain of all three groups during the 4th, 5th and 6th weeks (p<0. 01). The difference of livability among groups was not significant (p>0.05). The 17 birds m-2 stocking density group had better food conversion ratio than 9 and 13 birds m-2 stocking density groups between 21-42 days. The difference of food conversion ratio between stocking density groups was not significant between 0-21 and 0-42 days (p>0.05). The difference in carcass yield, pH, meat colors (E) and internal organ weights of stocking density groups was not significant (p>0.05). The plasma protein levels were significant among the density groups (p<0.05). In conclusion, 13 birds m-2 stocking density groups is more suitable than 9 and 17 birds m-2 stocking density groups in rearing conditions.

Abstract: We aimed to present the phenomenon of laparoscopic cholecystectomy and abdominoplasty which we diagnosed at the same period the abdominal laxation, diastase of rectum and cholelithiasis that we think in the literature the first samples without leaving any trocar entrance mark.A 58 year old female patient has consulted to the polyclinic of plastic surgery due to prolapsus on the abdominal region. Gall bladder multiplestones were ascertained through abdominal ultrasonograpy. On request and to provide minimal cosmetic failure to the patient, cholecystectomy and abdominoplasty is performed at the same session. Patients with abdominal pathologies that may occur after operations requiring surgery such as abdominoplasty very serious impact on cosmetics. Concordantly, we strongly suggest to take abdominal USG, even if there is no additional complaints especially before the plastic surgery operations and abdominoplasty, for ascertain the existent patologies. Molecules , 2009, DOI: 10.3390/molecules14051808
Abstract: Arils from six pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) varieties grown in the Mediterranean region of Turkey were tested for their antimicrobial properties by the agar diffusion and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) methods against seven bacteria: (Bacillus megaterium DSM 32, Pseudomonas aeruginosa DSM 9027, Staphylococcus aureus Cowan 1, Corynebacterium xerosis UC 9165, Escherichia coli DM, Enterococcus faecalis A10, Micrococcus luteus LA 2971), and threefungi (Kluvyeromyces marxianus A230, Rhodotorula rubra MC12, Candida albicans ATCC 1023). It has been observed that the pomegranate aril extracts had antimicrobial effect on all microorganisms, giving inhibition zones ranging in size from 13 to 26 mm. The MIC values for active pomegranate extracts ranged between 30 and >90 μg/mL. The results obtained appeared to confirm the antimicrobial potential of the Punica granatum varieties.

Cardiovascular Diabetology , 2011, DOI: 10.1186/1475-2840-10-63
Abstract: A total of 680 patients undergoing noncardiothoracic surgery were prospectively evaluated. Patients older than 18 years who underwent an elective, nonday case, open surgical procedure were enrolled. Electrocardiography and cardiac biomarkers were obtained 1 day before surgery, and on days 1, 3 and 7 after surgery. Preoperative risk factors and laboratory test results were measured and evaluated for their association with the occurrence of in-hospital perioperative cardiovascular events. Impaired fasting glucose (IFG) defined as fasting plasma glucose values of 100 to 125 mg/dl; DM was defined as fasting plasma glucose ≥ 126 mg/dl and/or plasma glucose ≥ 200 mg/dl or the current use of blood glucose-lowering medication, and glucose values below 100 mg/dl were considered normal. Plasma glucose levels were significantly higher in patients with perioperative cardiovascular events (n = 80, 11.8%) in comparison to those without cardiovascular events (131 ± 42.5 vs 106.5 ± 37.5, p < 0.0001). Multivariate analysis revealed that patients with IFG and DM were at 2.1- and 6.4-fold increased risk of perioperative cardiovascular events, respectively. Every 10 mg/dl increase in preoperative plasma glucose levels was related to a 11% increase for adverse perioperative cardiovascular events. Not only DM but also IFG is associated with increased perioperative cardiovascular event rates in patients undergoing noncardiothoracic surgery.Patients undergoing major noncardiac surgery are at high risk of cardiovascular complications [1]. Diabetes mellitus (DM) and hyperglycemia are risk factors for adverse perioperative cardiac and noncardiac events [2-5]. In patients with known DM, the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease is increased with increasing plasma glucose concentration. Each 1% increase in glycated haemoglobin (HbA 1c) level was associated with a 14% increase in the incidence of fatal and nonfatal myocardial infarction [6]. However, more recently the emphasis has shifte

Türkiye Fiziksel Tip ve Rehabilitasyon Dergisi , 2012,
Abstract: Objective: To investigate the effect of the fluoroscopy guided sacroiliac joint (SIJ) injection in patients with lumbar disc herniation, which was determined with magnetic resonance imaging, and sacroiliac dysfunction which was identified with clinical examination.Materials and Methods: Patients with low back pain (LBP) lasting more than four weeks, radiating into the tigh or lower limb were eligible for the study. In these patients, when physical examination showed that SIJ might be the pain generator, a SIJ corticosteroid and local anesthetic injection was initially performed. The patients were assessed one hour, and two weeks after the injection. Results: Sacroiliac joint injection was performed on 14 patients selected from 60 patients. In 12 patients (20%), source of LBP was attributed to SIJ. In these patients, pain severity decreased more than %75 after one or two injections. A second SIJ injection was performed in two patients. Conclusion: Clinicians should take into account the possibility of non-spinal pain generators even if patients presented with a specific diagnosis. In addition, a fluoroscopy guided SIJ corticosteroid and local anesthetic injection can be effective in the diagnosis and treatment of these patients. Turk J Phys Med Re-hab 2012;58:26-8.

Abstract: Adverse effect of drought will be decreased with the selection of appropriate plant cover that cause reduction in surface runoff and soil erosion and increase in water availability through increased infiltration. This will also help plant growth and resistance to drought. In addition, plant cover will decrease damage from flooding and land sliding. In this study, effects of black locust afforestation studies in acid rain influenced areas on surface runoff and sediment transportation were investigated and compared to adjacent grasslands. The highest surface runoff and sediment transportation were measured in the periods of May-June and October-November. The total surface runoff in grassland area was 263 m3/ha while it was 18 m3/ha in adjacent black locust area between May and November. The total amount of sediment transported in the same period were 43.6 kg/ha in grassland and 5 kg/ha in black locust area, respectively. Our results indicate that the black locust afforestation studies were more effective than grasslands in preventing erosion and surface runoff in the region.
