Abstract: assessing the impacts of technologies generated by agricultural research is an important issue for inifap. initially, this assessment was referred almost exclusively to economic impacts, but in recent times social and environmental dimensions have been incorporated, as a result of concerns about the sustainability of production systems. in 2009, we conducted a series of surveys to the cooperating producers who participated in a technology transfer project for peach, where primary information was gathered on the economic, social and environmental impact on model gardens, promoted for 6 years in a technology transfer project. in addition, a specialized software was used to estimate the economic benefit to society of investment in the project, assuming the adoption of the technology in an area of 5 hectares, and expecting an average yield of 12 tons per hectare. the estimation of the economic return of the research was carried out by calculating the indicators of convenience; in this case tir was estimated at 63.69%, a van of $ 23.5 million pesos and a benefit /cost ratio of 7.02, which means that for every peso invested in the generation and dissemination of this practice, the country made a $7 profit.

Abstract: Why is it so important for foreign language teachers today to use literature in the classroom? This paper highlights the benefits of literature in making students more discerning users and consumers of language. Active learning is in this sense a key factor in engaging the learner with the literary works. Likewise, the role of the teacher as a facilitator and the use of strategies such as the Socratic Seminar constitute effective ways to shift the balance from teacher-centered to student-centered instruction, thus increasing students’ engagement and providing forums for learning to be more personal, meaningful, and memorable.
Easy Rawlins’ Identity: a Unique African American Male Detective

Impossibilia : Revista Internacional de Estudios Literarios , 2011,
Abstract: Using the hardboiled conventions as the narrative framework for his series, Walter Mosleyportrays a black detective hero, Easy Rawlins, who goes through a process of discovering his true identityby exploring the nature of being a black male throughout the 1950s and 1960s in America. He displayspeculiar characteristics in the way of leading his life and the use of his double consciousness and hisabilities as a trickster.
Many-body calculations of low-energy eigenstates in magnetic and periodic systems with self-healing diffusion Monte Carlo: steps beyond the fixed-phase
Fernando Agustín Reboredo
Physics , 2010,
Abstract: The self-healing diffusion Monte Carlo algorithm (SHDMC) [Reboredo, Hood and Kent, Phys. Rev. B {\bf 79}, 195117 (2009); Reboredo, {\it ibid.} {\bf 80}, 125110 (2009)] is extended to study the ground and excited states of magnetic and periodic systems. The method converges to exact eigenstates as the statistical data collected increases if the wave function is sufficiently flexible. It is shown that the wave functions of complex anti-symmetric eigen-states can be written as the product of an anti-symmetric real factor and a symmetric phase factor. The dimensionality of the nodal surface is dependent on whether phase is a scalar function or not. A recursive optimization algorithm is derived from the time evolution of the mixed probability density, which is given by an ensemble of electronic configurations (walkers) with complex weight. This complex weight allows the amplitude of the fixed-node wave function to move away from the trial wave function phase. This novel approach is both a generalization of SHDMC and the fixed-phase approximation [Ortiz, Ceperley and Martin, Phys Rev. Lett. {\bf 71}, 2777 (1993)]. When used recursively it simultaneously improves the node and the phase. The algorithm is demonstrated to converge to nearly exact solutions of model systems with periodic boundary conditions or applied magnetic fields. The computational cost is proportional to the number of independent degrees of freedom of the phase. The method is applied to obtain low-energy excitations of Hamiltonians with magnetic field or periodic boundary conditions. The method is used to optimize wave functions with twisted boundary conditions, which are included in a many-body Bloch phase. The potential applications of this new method to study periodic, magnetic, and complex Hamiltonians are discussed.
A Pedagogical Approach to Detective Fiction
Agustín Reyes-Torres
International Education Studies , 2011, DOI: 10.5539/ies.v4n5p33
Abstract: One of the main concerns when teaching a foreign language is how to encourage students to read and become interested in its literature. This article presents detective fiction as a pedagogical tool that provides the key elements to make it appealing for young readers. In this way, the mystery, the action and the suspense in the story; the figure of the detective; or the fact that the end of the story is always morally acceptable turn this literary genre in a magnificent reading to practise the target language and explore the social and cultural issues portrayed. The aim of my work is to present a series of activities related with the detective fiction of international writers such as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Francisco González Ledesma, Abdelilah Hamdouchi and James McClure that demonstrate the pedagogical value and practical use of detective fiction.
Martínez Manrique,Fernando; Vicente,Agustín;
An??lisis filos?3fico , 2008,
Abstract: this paper examines carruthers's latest proposal on the role of language as a global broadcaster of thoughts in a massively modular architecture. we focus on two aspects: inner speech as an intermodular integrator, and its function to explain creativity in human cognition. first, we argue that language is not sufficient for intermodular integration from what we call "the audience problem": sentences composed by the linguistic module, combining information from different domains, would be unintelligible to each central module, which is domain-specific. as an alternative, we consider the possibility that there is integration not carried out by a specific module. finally, we claim that carruthers's proposal for creative thinking respects neither the phenomenology nor the ambiguity of language. we contend that a mindreading system, which has a crucial function in linguistic communication, must have a much more important role to play.

Iheringia. Série Zoologia , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0073-47212011000300007
Abstract: this contribution presents new data about the natural history of the dasypus hybridus (desmarest, 1804) (mammalia, xenarthra, dasypodidae). a seasonal monitoring using the capture and release method was performed over the course of three years in a 100 ha of four cattle farms in the buenos aires province, argentina. data were collected on food habits, space and time use, behavior, thermoregulation, population data, and morphology. a total of 71 captures were made. the main food items recorded were plant matter, ants and coleopterans, and did not occur seasonal differences in food habits. dasypus hybridus concentred their activities during daytime, and were recorded a low frequency of activities during cold seasons (fall and winter). the long-nosed armadillo prefer humid soils and grasslands with high vegetation cover, and selected forest to refuge. the southern long-nosed armadillo were asocial. rectal temperature was positively correlated with environmental temperature. the sex proportion was near to one, and no sexual dimorphism was observed. in general, the results of this study are in agreement with previous observations of other species of the same genera, but is necessary to highlight the trend observed in food habits and thermoregulatory strategy. this work provides new information about different aspects of a poor studied species that occur in a habitat subjected to high pressure to modification and use.

We report the case of a 31 years old female patient without pathological antecedents, with a left atrial mixoma that measured 9 cm x 8 cm. It manifested clinically by sudden cardiac obstructive symptoms and was diagnosed by transthoracic echocardiography. Immediate surgery was performed, achieving complete tumor resection. A severe mitral valve insufficiency that required valvuloplasty was evidenced. The patient was discharged on the sixth day after surgery.
