Abstract:

The article provides experimental data applied to the determination of carbonate alkalinity (CAM) according to modified Gran II functions. CAM is related to the mixtures NaHCO3 + Na2CO3 and Na2CO3 + NaOH. In addition to the determination of equivalence volumes, one of the main novelties of the proposed method is the possibility of determining the activity coefficient of hydrogen ions (γ). Moreover, CAM can be used to calculate the dissociation constants (K1, K2) for carbonic acid and the ionic product of water (KW) from a single pH titration curve. The parameters of the related functions are calculated according to the least squares method.

Abstract: In recent years large corporations as well as smaller commercial enterprises have begun to devote increased attention to software testing and software quality. This paper introduces a novel tool—the Framework for Extensible Application Testing (FEAT), implemented by the author and applicable for automatic generation and execution of test cases. The paper discusses system requirements, design, architecture and modes of operation. It also contains a detailed comparison of the FEAT framework with existing test environments, focusing in particular on the STAF/STAX framework. The final section is devoted to experimental research into the applicability and efficiency of the presented tools in various projects and configurations, as reflected by quality metrics.

Rotifers as Indicators of Climate Change in the Antarctic Environments

Abstract: An important question stated in the presented paper is: Could rotifers be the indicators of climate change in the Antarctic environments? Rotifers are one of the most important components of the invertebrate fauna of the Antarctic freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems. However, investigations of their distribution, diversity and an ecological role in the environment have been widely neglected, mainly due to the methodological and taxonomical difficulties. During the investigations 176 species of rotifers were found, including the endemic and cosmopolitan species. Their existence is directly proportional to microvariations of humidity factor. Scientists still have poor knowledge about the occurrence of rotifer species in recently studied habitats e.g. cryoconite holes, nunataks or soil. Probably rotifers could be the indicators of climate change in the Antarctic freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems but more investigations and monitoring studies are needed.
On the order of starlikeness and convexity of complex harmonic functions with a two-parameter coefficient condition

Abstract: The article of J. Clunie and T. Sheil-Small [3], published in 1984, intensified the investigations of complex functions harmonic in the unit disc Δ. In particular, many papers about some classes of complex mappings with the coefficient conditions have been published. Consideration of this type was undertaken in the period 1998-2004 by Y. Avci and E. Z otkiewicz [2], A. Ganczar [5], Z. J. Jakubowski, G. Adamczyk, A. azińska and A. Sibelska [1], [8], [7], H. Silverman [12] and J. M. Jahangiri [6], among others. This work continues the investigations described in [7]. Our results relate primarily to the order of starlikeness and convexity of functions of the aforementioned classes.

A mesh algorithm for principal quadratic forms

Abstract: In 1970 a negative solution to the tenth Hilbert problem, concerning the determination of integral solutions of diophantine equations, was published by Y. W. Matiyasevich. Despite this result, we can present algorithms to compute integral solutions (roots) to a wide class of quadratic diophantine equations of the form q(x) = d, where q : Z is a homogeneous quadratic form. We will focus on the roots of one (i.e., d = 1) of quadratic unit forms (q11 = … = qnn = 1). In particular, we will describe the set of roots Rq of positive definite quadratic forms and the set of roots of quadratic forms that are principal. The algorithms and results presented here are successfully used in the representation theory of finite groups and algebras. If q is principal (q is positive semi-definite and Ker q={v ∈ Zn; q(v) = 0}=Z · h) then |Rq| = ∞. For a given unit quadratic form q (or its bigraph), which is positive semi-definite or is principal, we present an algorithm which aligns roots Rq in a Φ-mesh. If q is principal (|Rq| < ∞), then our algorithm produces consecutive roots in Rq from finite subset of Rq, determined in an initial step of the algorithm.
Who Are You, Mrs Walter Shandy, Aberratio Naturae?

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to examine the critically unacknowledged aspect of the canonical Tristram Shandy by Laurence Sterne: the authorial delineation and narrative management of the character of Mrs Shandy, who is a silent presence in the background even though the pivotal personal events for the narrator of this spoof-autobiography are his conception and birth. The novel, otherwise thoroughly structurally and thematically experimental, seems to be fossilized in the ancient and Christian philosophers' assumptions about the physical incompleteness of the "weaker vessel" and the malign influence of her disturbing physiology, which for centuries fed into the ontological concept of a woman as Nature's aberration, aberratio naturae. Mrs Shandy's muteness, a striking contrast to her husband's verbosity, her absence and exclusion from the affairs of the male dominated household seem to run counter to the novel's progressive form and linguistic audacity, the sociological shifts slowly taking root and medical discoveries made before and during this age of paradoxes.

Abstract: The article aims at drawing attention to the need of adequate IT preparation of to-be teacher, since in the constantly changing environment students use a computer, calculator or other multimedia more and more often. Therefore there is a need to show them the opportunities to use above mentioned devices to support teaching and learning process. We should remember, that a computer or calculator are modern appliances which support teacher's work, but to make them modern didactic measures a teacher should use them properly, as any tool itself is didactic in its nature . Regardless of which didactic tools are being used, we manage teaching process and a calculator or a computer should not do that instead of us.
