Suárez Roger, Suarez P Rossana, Pe?a Efrén, Agüin Víctor.
Acta Cientifica Estudiantil , 2009,

Abstract: Objective: To identify clinical and tomographics factors and to build a morbidity-mortality prognostic model for patients with concussion. Methods: Non-concurrent observational longitudinal study; a sample of 205 patients admitted to the emergency room between the years 2003-2007 was selected. Clinical and tomographics factors for the prognosis of the disease were evaluated at discharge from patients with concussion; three ordinal logistic regression models of proportional odds were obtained. Results: 72.2% patients were male, with an age range between 17 and 84 years. 22%, 63.5% and 14.6% had severe, moderate and mild head injury, respectively. Best predictors of mortality among clinical factors were elderly, Glasgow coma scale less than 8 and absence of pupillary response; and among tomographic factors were absence of basal cisterns, concussion volume greater than 25cc, presence of multiple bruises, midline deviation and subarachnoid hemorrhage. Conclusions: the model with tomographic factors predicts better mortality (69.4%), while the combined clinical and tomographic factors model predicts 61.1% of deaths and 95.8% of healed patients. Clinical factors are early predictors of mortality.

Integrating the Probabilistic Models BM25/BM25F into Lucene
Joaquín Pérez-Iglesias,José R. Pérez-Agüera,Víctor Fresno,Yuval Z. Feinstein
Computer Science , 2009,
Abstract: This document describes the BM25 and BM25F implementation using the Lucene Java Framework. Both models have stood out at TREC by their performance and are considered as state-of-the-art in the IR community. BM25 is applied to retrieval on plain text documents, that is for documents that do not contain fields, while BM25F is applied to documents with structure.
Putative extinction of two sawfish species in Mexico and the United States
del Monte-Luna, Pablo;Castro-Aguirre, José Luis;Brook, Barry W.;de la Cruz-Agüero, José;Cruz-Escalona, Víctor Hugo;
Neotropical Ichthyology , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1679-62252009000300020
Abstract: all species of sawfish are listed by the international union for the conservation of nature (iucn) as endangered or critically endangered. in fact, the smalltooth sawfish pristis pectinata, and the largetooth sawfish pristis pristis, have been declared to be regionally and locally extinct from the us atlantic coast and the gulf of california, mexico, respectively, likely due to overfishing. however, here we dispute these claims by illustrating how lack of existence of a given species within a region can be misconstrued as evidence for extinction.
Estrutura factorial do Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory - ZTPI numa amostra de estudantes universitários portugueses
Ortu?o,Víctor; Gamboa,Víctor;
Avances en Psicología Latinoamericana , 2009,
Abstract: the zimbardo time perspective inventory - ztpi (zimbardo & boyd, 1999) is composed by a five factors scale (past positive, past negative, present hedonist, present fatalist and future) that evaluates time perspective in a multidimensional manner which, in this way, surpasses one of the limitations of past instruments. the aim of this study is to analyze the factorial structure of the ztpi's portuguese version using a sample of 277 portuguese college students, with ages between 18 and 53 years old (m = 22, sd = 5.43). five factors were encountered, that explain 35.25% of total variance. these results are much alike the one obtained by zimbardo and boyd (1999), in the original instrument publication.
Educación de Postgrado o Educación Avanzada en Venezuela: ?Para qué?
Morles,Víctor;
Investigación y Postgrado , 2005,
Abstract: this article describes and argues about the evolution and characteristics of the graduate programs worldwide, making emphasis in the venezuelan case. the social importance of graduate studies is enhanced, not only because it is the highest level of the education system, but because of the close relation to the intellectual production (scientific, technological and humanistic). a proposal for the creation of an advanced education system is described (wider concept than that of graduate school) and it is argued that in countries like venezuela, with low development and high dependence of foreign countries, the main criterion to launch programs at this level should be the social relevance.
Una forma atípica de síndrome de QT largo: Heraldos de muerte súbita cardíaca
Ruesta,Víctor;
Gaceta Médica de Caracas , 2008,
Abstract: the study presents two cases with features related to atypical forms of long qt syndrome. the qt syndrome has been reviewed recently, the presence of autonomic imbalance, the dispersion of repolarization, the heterogeneity of its genetic basis in explaining its clinical presentations have call the atention of the investigators. two siblings patients (male and female) were studied; both presented ventricular tachycardia under conditions of augmented adrenergic tone (fear and exercise) and their mother died suddenly before age fifty. electrocardiogram, vectocardiogram, signal average electrocardiogram, bidimensional echo were performed in both, additionally he was studied with coronary angiography. the resting electrocardiogram in him showed nonspecific repolarization anormalities, ventricular tachycardia with right bundle branch configuration in one occasion. lack of proper shortening of the qt interval during de stress test. signal average electrocardiogram, bi-dimensional echo and coronary angiography were normal. she had a normal electrocardiogram and echocardiogram but developed a ventricular tachycardia with left bundle branch configuration during the early stages of an stress test. patients with a positive family history of sudden death, non-specific repolarization anormalities, lack of shortening of the qt interval with increasing heart rate (hypodinamic qt) are suspicious of developing ventricular tachycardia under conditions of augmented adrenergic tone. preventive measures should be taken in patients with this conditions.
La sociología de los mercados laborales en los estudios sobre el empleo agrícola
Rau,Víctor Horacio;
Gaceta Laboral , 2006,
Abstract: based on a review of previous studies on rural wage labour, this survey attempts to evaluate the relevance, contribution of, and possibilities for developing a sociology of labour markets within this area of interest. we begin by defining the main characteristics of the so called sociological theory of labour markets, recreating its developmental process within the science of economics. then, we analyse how various rural wage labour studies have paid attention to empirical phenomena or employed theoretical ideas related specifically to the area of labour markets and, especially, to the themes posed by the sociological approach to them. we conclude that the sociology of labor markets has been present one way or another since the establishment of rural wage laborers analysis as a field of study. among the analytical aspects involved in the conception of labor markets as social institutions, we assert that the area least tackled in specific research has so far been the historical or genetic one. finally, we sustain that one of the principal ways available to continue developing the potential of the sociological approach is, precisely, to include it and go deeper into those aspects of analysis in studies of rural labor markets.
