Souza, Adriana Barreto de;
Tempo , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-77042008000100004
Abstract: this article intends to describe the trajectory of a young portuguese officer, josé joaquim de lima e silva, in order to reconstitute, through his institutional experience, the social strategies that he applied to concretely negotiate his practice as a military of the portuguese empire. the army was not an institution endowed with a high level of rationalization in the xviii century. in its staff there were officers who built their careers by different means. this plurality of manners of being a military was partially due to the monopoly exerted by the crown on the distribution of military ranks. these ranks were viewed as one of the several symbolic goods given by the monarch as a reward for services rendered by his subjects. thus, the hierarchy of the army becomes permeable to the social hierarchy.
= The problematic classification of the term where. is it an adverb or a pronoun?
Adriana dos Santos Souza
Acta Scientiarum : Language and Culture , 2010,
Owing to different uses assigned to the term, where has been the object of several studies. Investigations have also been made on issues with regard to its grammatical class, the adverbs, in which traditionally the term has been inserted. Important issues are raised on the adverbs, among which the traditional definition, the historical issues that pervade its concept, the problems associated with this tradition and other definitions based on functional studies. The literature related to the term where is provided, coupled to a description of its origin, its possible morphological and syntactical classifications (adverb/pronoun) and some stances attributed to it by researchers as from discussions with distinct synchronies corpora.
O exercício do poder e a exclus o de indivíduos e de línguas da sociedade brasileira = Power politics and the exclusion of individuals and languages in Brazilian society
Renata Adriana de Souza
Acta Scientiarum : Language and Culture , 2008,
Current essay analyzes the introduction of bilingualism in the mid-1970s as a strategy of power politics to domesticate linguistic differences among the indigenous peoples of Brazil. Discourse Analysis’s theoretical presuppositions verify the production conditions and the social and historical context in which bilingual learning was introduced and established. Coupled to the above, Foucault’s studies problematize the manner power spreads throughout society with the exclusion of certain groups and culturalaspects linked to them. Further, Honório (2006) investigates the introduction of bilingualism in Brazil. Issues on the problem of the introduction of bilingualism have been produced through the intercrossing of the above-mentioned theories with special referenceto the linguistic situation of a Kaingang indigenous community.

Advances in Infectious Diseases (AID) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/aid.2014.41006
Abstract:

Background: Recently, the probable involvement of surfaces from the hospital environment as a disseminating source of resistant bacteria has been highlighted. The aim of the study was to compare resistant microorganisms isolated from inanimate surfaces, equipments and patient blood culture samples in an Intensive Care Unit from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed from July to October 2009. Data sources were microbiologic samples from environment and patient blood culture. Duplicate samples were obtained by swabs from up to seven different touch sites around two different patients in four different days. Jointly with the environmental samples, bacterial isolates from an adult ICU patients’ routine blood cultures were obtained from hospital laboratory. The samples were identified, tested for sensitivity and compared by rep-PCR test to verify similarity. Results: Difference among the averages of Colony Forming Units was found within the environment samples (p < 0.004). In the environment were identified antibiotic resistant microorganisms such as Vancomycin resistant Enterococcus faecalis, imipenem and ciprofloxacin Pseudomonas aeruginosa and multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii. Similarities (60% -80%) were established among environmental and blood culture samples. Conclusion: The environmental sampling showed different averages of contamination of the surfaces and equipment. The similarity among the bacterial isolates of patients’ blood cultures and environmental samples reinforces the hypothesis of the horizontal transference of pathogens.

Epidemiological Characteristics, Resistance Patterns and Spread of Gram-Negative Bacteria Related to Colonization of Patients in Intensive Care Units  [PDF]

Advances in Infectious Diseases (AID) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/aid.2015.51002
Abstract: Our aim was to determine the epidemiological characteristics, the resistance patterns and the spread of Gram negative bacteria related to colonization of patients in adult Intensive Care Units. Methods: A prospective cohort of patients colonized and/or infected with Gram negative bacteria was conducted at two adult ICUs from hospitals in Brazil (April 2012 to February 2013). Nasal, groin and perineum swabs were performed. Samples were incubated on MacConkey and cetrimide agar (48 h at 37) and identification tests (Vitek-BioMérieux), antibiogram (Bauer-Kirby method), Carba NP test, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and sequencing were performed. The patterns of resistant microorganisms were compared by rep-PCR (Diversilab). Results: There were 53 cases of colonization. In these cases, we identified imipenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (51%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (32%), Klebsiella pneumoniae ESBL (38%) or imipenem resistant (5.6%). The use of antimicrobials and medical devices were related to colonization (p < 0.05). The resistance patterns expressed by Klebsiella
Arte, interfaces gráficas e espa?os virtuais
Silva, Adriana de Souza e;
ARS (S?o Paulo) , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1678-53202004000400006
Melzer, Adriana Cristina de Souza;
Fisioterapia e Pesquisa , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1809-29502008000100004
Abstract: work-related musculoskeletal disorders (wrmd) affect workers in several occupations and are one of the major health problems in many countries. this study was developed in two sectors of a textile industry, one of them being technologically more advanced. the objectives were to identify physical and organizational risk factors associated to wrmd in the two sectors and estimate prevalence of pain among these workers. the workplace and working activity of 12 individuals were observed on ergonomic grounds, and 50 workers answered a questionnaire. the following physical risk factors were identified: awkward shoulder postures, standing work position, repetitive movements, and unfavourable environmental features. main organizational risk factors identified were: intense work pace, uneven and repetitive tasks, absence of pauses and impossibility of communication with peers. pain symptoms prevalence of 60% and 76% was found in the two sectors. conclusion shows that investments in technology that do not follow changes in work condition and organization may result in maintenance or aggravation of risk situations associated to wrmd.

OPSIS : Revista do Departamento de História e Ciências Sociais , 2010,
Abstract: Visio Tnugdali is an exemplum, a moral narrative with the task of convincing an audience for the purpose of conversion. Produced in the in twelfth century by an unknown Cistercian monk, it was translated to Portuguese in the fifteenth century (Vis o de Túndalo). Through the image of the devil and of the torments in hell, the Christians would repent their sins and search for salvation, adopting the behavior indicated by the Catholic Church to conduct them to Paradise.
Modelos educativos de nobre e rei na Crónica de D. Jo o I, de Fern o Lopes = Educational models for nobles and kings in Fern o Lopes’s John I’s Chronicles
Adriana Maria de Souza Zierer
Acta Scientiarum : Education , 2010,
When he achieved political power through the Avis movement (1383-1385), John I and his sons stimulated the production of literary works, known as “Moralistic prose,” that furnished behavior patterns within the context of education at the royal court. Fern o Lopes’s John I’s Chronicles, written after the monarch’s death tried to legitimize his power and the power of his descendants. It was also an educational manual since it provided ideal models for the behavior of nobles and kings. The "new nobility" should be involved with the "national cause" and the "new king" should show incontestable virtues that would be beyond the illegitimacy status of John I. The latter would be indicated as a new royalty model. Therefore, the two heroesand educational models of the chronicler Fern o Lopes are the nobleman Nuno Alvares Pereira, associated to the representation of the Arthurian knight Sir Galahad, and King John of Portugal, the Messiah of Lisbon, who ‘saved’ the city from the Castilian domain. Relationships between the monarchy and the nobility suggested in the Chronicles indicate power centralization and the discipline meted out by the monarch on the nobles.
Location-aware mobile technologies: historical, social and spatial approaches
Adriana de Souza e Silva
Verso e Reverso , 2013, DOI: 10.4013/ver.2013.27.64.03
Abstract: With the popularization of smartphones, location-based services are increasingly part of everyday live. People use their cell phones to find nearby restaurants, friends in the vicinity, and track their children. Although location-based services have received sparse attention from mobile communications cholars to date, the ability of locating people and things with one’s cell phone is not new. Since the removal of GPS signal degradation in 2000, artists and researchers have been exploring how location-awareness influences mobility, spatiality and sociability. Besides exploring the historical antecedents of today’s location-based services, this paper focuses on the main social issues that emerge when location-aware technologies leave the strict domain of art and research and become part of everyday life: locational privacy, sociability, and spatiality. Finally, this paper addresses two main topics that future mobile communication research that focus on location-awareness should take into consideration: a shift in the meaning of location, and the adoption and appropriation of location-aware technologies in the global south.
