Abstract: Buscando elementos para construir a categoria de Projetos de Sociedade e de Educa o, para a análise do planejamento e políticas educacionais na América Latina de hoje, este texto procura criticar exemplos de paradigmas de racionalidade que pretendem explicar estes movimentos do real, ora numa dire o crítica, ora reificadora e técnica-instrumental. Searching elements to buid a research category - Society and Education Projects - to a planning and educational policy analysis about the Latin America today, this article demands to criticize racionality paradigms examples, that intend to explain those real moviments, in a critical direction and also in a technical-instrumental and reified direction. Abstract: this article intends to introduce a few characteristics of the process of globalization of education, considered one of the elements of the new phase of capitalist internationalization and accumulation which has been put through hegemonically by collective political actors that adopted the neoliberal project of sociability (especially the international monetary fund (imf) and the world bank, the conductors of structural reforms in latin america and the caribbean). the article also describes the consequences of this project's implementation on educational policies of the region, specifically brazil and venezuela, from the 80's until now.

Abstract: this paper analyses the inflections of the high school policies in brazil, from 2007 onwards. it questions the context in which they occurred and the contradictions present in the process. it searches to identify the main changes, the discourses that supported them and the measures and governmental programs that followed them. it depicts and analyses these changes and their implications in the states, focusing on minas gerais. based on the gathered arguments, it stresses a few considerations and tendencies in the path traced by the current policies concerning the finalities and the universalization of this stage of the country's basic education.

Abstract: This quasi-experimental intervention was conducted with 10- to 14-year-old students enrolled in public schools in Teresina, Brazil, to evaluate the effects of a nutritional education program on the students’ knowledge, behaviour and attitudes towards nutrition. The dietary attitudes were evaluated in terms of food tastes/preferences and food behaviours. The participants in the study included 126 students from four schools. Differences between before and after the intervention were found regarding knowledge about the “food pyramid”, “healthy eating” and “nutrients” (p < 0.05). There was reduction from 35% to 18.2% (p = 0.029) in the preference for unhealthy foods, such as greasy meats and processed foods. The students reported changes in their dietary behaviour in response to the intervention (p < 0.05). The educational model used in this study was shown to be effective for modifying the food and nutritional knowledge levels of the students and the associated dietary attitudes and practices.

Blindness is a serious complication that can occur after facial trauma and may represent the loss of one of the most useful senses in the human relationship with the world—the sight. This study aims to review the pathophysiology of blindness related to facial trauma in order to identify the mechanisms by which it develops and to recognize the signs and symptoms required to establish proper diagnosis and treatment. Blindness following facial trauma may occur due to mechanisms that involve injury to the eyeball, optic nerve and eyelids. The leading causes of blindness resulting from facial trauma, and which may be altered by medical interference, are related to retrobulbar hemorrhage and traumatic optic neuropathy, which require extremely rapid diagnosis and can be accomplished with the resources available in most trauma-based emergency services. The authors conclude that loss of vision tends to be irreversible in direct eyeball and optic nerve lesions, but can be prevented in retrobulbar hemorrhage and traumatic optic neuropathy. Eyeball and, especially, sight accuracy evaluation should be included in the initial care of trauma patients, so that the lesions that might lead to loss of vision are diagnosed and treated early.

The fruit production for export is an economically significant activity in the Valley of S?o Francisco River, especially in the irrigated lands of Petrolina-PE/Juazeiro-BA, Brazil. The development of new genetic material most suitable to the tropical climate and the demands of the consumer market have led to the selection of new seedless grapes cultivars. In this case, the use of the embryo rescue technique has produced satisfactory results for obtaining such materials, especially in the semiarid region. This study aimed to evaluate the in vitro development of intraspecific hybrids of grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.), derived from the rescue of immature embryos resultant from the crossing of “Superior Seedless” and “Thompson Seedless” Brazilian clones. To establish and develop the cultivation, the culture media was supplemented with 30 g/L sucrose, 0.1 g/L myo-inositol, 0.002 g/L glycine, 0.1 mg/L indoleacetic acid (IAA), 6.5 g/L of agar, adjusted pH to 5.7. The experiment was evaluated after 90 days. The variables measured were: number of nodes, number of leaves, plant height (cm), number of roots and length (cm) of the root system and internodes. The period of 60 days of in vitro culture of ovules resulted in the highest values of embryos (about 50%), as well as better characterized developmental stages with higher germination (47.3%). The three types of hybrid grapes evaluated in micropropagation showed very similar values of the measured parameters, even having originated from embryos of different developmental stages.

Abstract: the role of the substrate on germination of gigaspora albida schenck & smith was investigated. spores were desinfested with 0.5% sodium hypochlorite (20 min.) and placed on petri dishes over a millipore filter, with one of the following media: a- 1% water-agar; b- water-agar + aqueous extract of roots of panicum miliaceum l.; c- salt medium of murashige & skoog (ms) or sterilized sand; and incubated in the dark at room temperature (28oc ± 2). the experimental design was at random with four treatments and four replicates. germination was evaluated every 7 days until the 28th day. the water-agar medium was the most feasible for spore germination at the 7th day, followed by the ms medium at the 14th day. conversely, the sand and the root extract medium did not allow high germination. spores maintained in water-agar also presented longer germ tubes than spores in the other treatments. auxiliary cells were observed at the beginning of formation of hyphal branching in all treatments, however they were more numerous in the water-agar medium.

Abstract: by taking into account the nature, configurations, and meanings of the teaching work as its analysis object, this article discusses the methodology being developed in a research project. the text addresses the methodological-theoretical choices made, the field work done with teachers and the preliminary results achieved. the conclusions confirm the researchers' initial expectation concerning the ability expressed by teachers of getting involved in the analysis of their own work, the confidence in the collective work and the possibility of changes by means of their organization.
