Abstract: purpose: this study aimed to evaluate the results of neovaginoplasty by a modified mcindoe-bannister technique and by the non-surgical frank technique. methods: this retrospective study was conducted on a convenience sample of 25 women with vaginal agenesis undergoing surgical or conservative treatment at an infant-pubertal gynecology outpatient clinic. data were obtained from the medical records. fifteen women underwent the surgical mcindoe-bannister modified technique surgical group, and 10 women underwent the non-surgical frank technique frank group. the following parameters were considered for comparative analysis between the two samples: vaginometry, surgical and non-surgical complications, and sexual satisfaction after treatment. sexual satisfaction was assessed by a simple question: how is your sex life? results: there were differences related to vaginal length before and after performing exercises in both frank group (initial vaginal length 2.4±2.0 cm versus 6.9±1.1 cm after treatment, p<0.0001) and surgical group (initial vaginal length 0.9±1.4 cm versus 8.0±0.8 cm after treatment, p<0.0001). increased vaginal length was observed in surgical group compared to frank group (frank group=7.0±0.9 cm versus surgical group=8.0±0.8 cm, p=0.0005). forty percent of surgical group women had surgical complications versus no complications with the frank technique. all women reported to be satisfied with their sexual life. conclusion: the present data indicate that both the surgical and frank techniques are effective for the treatment of vaginal agenesis, resulting in the construction of a vagina that pewrmits sexual intercourse and sexual satisfaction. the favorable aspects of the frank technique are related to its low cost and to the low rates of major complications.

Revista Brasileira de Engenharia Agrícola e Ambiental , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-43662000000100016
Abstract: in this paper an evaluation is made of the performance of "wetlands" systems used for post treatment of the effluent from a uasb reactor. the removal of organic material, forms of nitrogen and phosphorus were evaluated. the uasb reactor treats municipal sewage in the city of campina grande-brazil. the produced effluent was pumped to four pilot scale "wetlands" units. three of these were cultivated with emerging macrophytes (juncus sp) whereas the fourth was operated without vegetation as a control unit. the three units with vegetation were operated with different hydraulic loads: 4.5, 3.3 and 2.3 cm d-1. the results obtained during the operation period of twenty six weeks were promising. the observed removal efficiencies of organic matter (measured as cod) ranged from 76 to 84% for application load varying from 6.58 to 14.2 g cod m2 d-1. with respect to nutrient removal, it is shown that it was possible to produce an effluent with 6.1 mg l-1 n-nh+4 l-1 and 7.6 mg l-1 of tkn with about 86 and 87% removal, respectively, whereas the removal of phosphorus was observed to be 100% in the "wetlands" system operating with a hydraulic load of 2.3 cm d-1.

Creative Education (CE) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2015.621234
Abstract: There is increasing recognition of the need to encourage students of diverse educational levels to develop independent and creative reasoning. Teachers are therefore fundamental mediators in the planning of teaching strategies intended to develop these competencies. Taking these assumptions as a reference, a study1 was developed with the aim of investigating the interactive dynamics used in a Brazilian school to work with a high ability/gifted student, as well as to identify how this student’s relations with other subjects at school (colleagues, teachers, deputy head teacher (pedagoga)) are established. The qualitative research method was used, collecting data based on semi-structured interviews, focusing on a case study. The study involved one gifted student, his parents, six teachers and one deputy head teacher (pedagoga). The study showed that despite getting on well with his teachers, he has difficulty in making friends with students of his age. With regard to his involvement at school, he performs mental calculations easily and expresses himself mathematically in a creative manner, proposing differentiated ways of solving problems in the classroom. Nevertheless, the study confirmed that some teachers still have difficulty in working with gifted students. On the other hand, despite the difficulties, some teachers have made efforts to develop teaching practices based on social interaction, enabling the sharing of knowledge and skills among students, in addition to encouraging students to seek meaning in what they study. These practices are similar to the quest for meanings that Vygotsky (1997, 2004, 2008, 2009) emphasizes. The conclusion is reached that encouraging and developing creative activities are fundamental elements for performance and the incorporation of meanings with regard to contents taught at school.

Abstract: A 33-year-old primigravida presented to an appointment at a high-risk prenatal outpatient service due to a history of splenomegaly. Her spleen occupied of the abdominal cavity and shifted the uterus to the right side of the abdomen. During investigation, an intrauterine growth restriction (IURG) and a series of other clinical complications were discovered. We admitted her to inpatient care at 28 + 1 weeks gestation for a better investigation of her extensive splenomegaly and for pregnancy monitoring, with a further successful delivery.

Abstract: this study aimed to analyze the systematization of pedagogical practices related to the teaching and learning of research methods in the daily routine of the disciplines of a health undergraduate course. the data were obtained from documents referring to developed pedagogical activities and analyzed through a content analysis technique, following the categories of the adopted social practices systematization framework, namely: object delimitation; time and context; objectives and purposes; employed frameworks; content of the utilized practices and strategies; dynamics of the activities and generated feelings; results; conclusions and proposals for further activities. the results present a teaching-learning research method, collectively created, that has its own theoretical-methodological framework. this framework guides, throughout all the disciplines, the development of strategies to build knowledge on an increasing complexity level, based on problematic health situations and on qualitative and quantitative data arising from different sources and socio-environmental contexts.
Tuning of Fractional Controllers Minimising H2 and H∞ Norms
Duarte Valério,José Sá da Costa
Acta Polytechnica Hungarica , 2006,
Abstract: H2 and H∞ controllers minimise the H2 or the H∞ norm of a suitable loop transferfunction involving the plant to control and some weighing transfer functions chosen to fulfilperformance specifications. In this paper this type of controllers is developed for the casewhen the plant and / or the weighing transfer functions are of fractional (commensurate)order. Since no analytical results similar to those existing for the integer case have beenfound, a genetic algorithm is used to minimise the desired norm. An application totemperature control is used to illustrate the method.

Abstract: the study sought to understand the feelings experienced by women-mothers of neonatal surgery on his children, patients with congenital malformations. this is a qualitative research method based on the life history. we used structured interviews with eighteen women, mothers of infants undergoing surgical procedures in the neonatal period. data collection was conducted between july and august 2009. the thematic analysis of narratives pointed to the expectation of "normalization" of the child and the life trajectories of women. hospital admission is ambiguous: while wishing to create great expectations and forward to the surgery, they feel in conflict with multiple fears (of death, anesthesia, and chronicity). in the process of care to patients with congenital surgical malformations nursing must consider not only the technical view, but above all, the ambiguous feelings expressed by womenmothers, in an important phase of building emotional bonds with your child.

The study aimed to understand the phenomenon of mothering in the presence of a neonatal surgery. This is a qualitative study, applying the life story method, engaging eighteen women-mothers of newborn undergoing surgery. The data, collected between July and August 2009, pointed to the emergence of two units of meaning: Separation, removal and rejection in the face of neonatal surgery and Experiencing a 'different' way of mothering'. Mothering in the presence of a neonatal surgery is a time of transition and adaptation against the unexpected, and what is normal and normative. Occurs in different ways, and may go through phases of rejection and separation and has focused on surgery and procedures performed. The construction of models to support women and family is essential for them t

Abstract: this was an ethnographic investigation that had the aim of discussing the care provided for elderly people living in long-term institutions. the methodology consisted of conducting an interview with an elderly woman to reconstruct her life story, combined with systematic observation of the location. the analysis on the empirical data started with identification of topics of relevance to the narrator. these were worked up using care-related categories and were discussed through subcategories: self-care, informal care, charitable care and professional care. the results indicated that the care provided by professionals to elderly people do not always correspond to what is expected. we emphasize the importance of broadening the discussion on long-term institutions and the concept of care, taking into account the sociability of the elderly and promoting their health.
A Globaliza??o e o Segundo Sexo
Fonseca, Adriana Dora da;Madureira, Valéria Silvana Faganello;
Revista Brasileira de Enfermagem , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71672003000300018
Abstract: this paper is a reflection which takes as a starting point the process of globalization, establishing a counterpoint between the characteristics of this process and the propositions of the international conference on population and development/1994, aiming at discussing it according to sen's (2000, 2001) writings. this comparative analysis indicates that the discussion about equality between the sexes has become more globalized, emphasizing women's situation in the contemporary world as an obstacle to development, which was reaffirmed in the iv women's world convention in 1995. subsequently, the paper addresses the advances occurred in brazil after the implementations of the propositions of the conference. finally, it concludes by locating the search of equality between sexes in the fields of rights and opportunities as a social necessity strictly connected to development.
