Abstract: the study sought to understand the feelings experienced by women-mothers of neonatal surgery on his children, patients with congenital malformations. this is a qualitative research method based on the life history. we used structured interviews with eighteen women, mothers of infants undergoing surgical procedures in the neonatal period. data collection was conducted between july and august 2009. the thematic analysis of narratives pointed to the expectation of "normalization" of the child and the life trajectories of women. hospital admission is ambiguous: while wishing to create great expectations and forward to the surgery, they feel in conflict with multiple fears (of death, anesthesia, and chronicity). in the process of care to patients with congenital surgical malformations nursing must consider not only the technical view, but above all, the ambiguous feelings expressed by womenmothers, in an important phase of building emotional bonds with your child.

The study aimed to understand the phenomenon of mothering in the presence of a neonatal surgery. This is a qualitative study, applying the life story method, engaging eighteen women-mothers of newborn undergoing surgery. The data, collected between July and August 2009, pointed to the emergence of two units of meaning: Separation, removal and rejection in the face of neonatal surgery and Experiencing a 'different' way of mothering'. Mothering in the presence of a neonatal surgery is a time of transition and adaptation against the unexpected, and what is normal and normative. Occurs in different ways, and may go through phases of rejection and separation and has focused on surgery and procedures performed. The construction of models to support women and family is essential for them t

Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02761999000400016
Abstract: the cell surfaces of five enteropathogenic escherichia coli serotypes (o111:h2; o111:h12; o125:h9; o119:h6; o26:h11) were assayed by chemical methods, lectin agglutination tests and spectroscopy associated to transmission electron microscopy. results of lectin agglutination assays showed that all strains reacted with mannosebinding lectins. strains belonging to serotype o125:h9 also agglutinated with lectins which recognize galactose and nacetylgalactosamine residues. the bacterial cells were treated with 0.01m phosphate buffered saline (ph 7.0) at 100oc for 2 hr and the extracts were submitted to precipitation and fractionated by cetavlon. phosphate, total sugar and protein contents were determined. gas liquid chomatography-mass spectrometry analysis of alditol acetates showed the presence of galactose, mannose, fucose, glucose and traces of ribose. spectroscopic analysis of intact cells showed the presence of a capsule-like structure which was not totally preserved after extraction. some cells were still surrounded by an amorphous capsular-like material after polysaccharide extraction.

Abstract: this was a cross-sectional study of workers in the pre-hospital care team in belo horizonte, minas gerais state, brazil, aimed at evaluating adherence to precautions. the study instrument included questions on knowledge, attitudes, and facilitating factors for adherence to standard precautions. adherence was verified by percentage of adequacy: > 75% correct answers. drivers showed the lowest degree of knowledge and physicians the highest. in self-reported answers, none of the workers demonstrated adequate use of face masks, goggles, or personal protective equipment (ppe), and drivers reported inadequate attitudes on all the items. in the univariate analysis, job position, gender, and specific rescue unit were associated with adoption of precautions. meanwhile, in the multivariate analysis, only job position was related (drivers and nurse technicians/aides). the most frequently cited facilitating factors for improvement of adherence were: training focusing on infections, occupational risks, and use of ppe; periodic team meetings; and creation of a central unit for cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing equipment and materials. workers in the pre-hospital care service demonstrated attitudes that were compatible with knowledge, but professional class affected knowledge on standard precautions and self-reported adequate attitudes.

Abstract: recently, there has been occurring a great increase in poultry production, especially in turkey's meat, motivated by the increase of exports and conquest of new markets. as a consequence, a great amount of organic residues has been generated, providing potential impact on the environment. turkey litter is the main residue from such activity, and has been used as soil conditioner, intended to improve physical and chemical characteristics. therefore, the objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of turkey litter application in aggregate stability of a typic dystrophic red latosol, under pasture of brachiaria decumbens, located in uberlandia, triangulo mineiro, minas gerais state. turkey litter was applied in the following dosages: 0 (control), 1,200; 2,400 and 4,800 kg ha-1 and 2,400 kg ha-1 + mineral fertilizer (36 kg ha-1 n, 60 kg ha-1 k2o and 60 kg ha-1 of p2o5). the applications were accomplished in january 2004, and the soil was sampled in two different times (60 and 210 days after application) in layers of 0-20 and 20-40 cm for aggregate stability analysis, evaluated through the total percentage of aggregates larger than 2 mm, smaller than 0.25 mm and geometric mean diameter (gmd). there was no effect of turkey litter dosages in soil aggregation. however, independently of the applied dose, there was an increase in the aggregate stability along time, especially in the 0-20 cm layer.

Abstract: levels of metabolizable energy (me) of 2,900, 3,100 and 3,300 kcal and energy to protein ratio (em: pb) of 128, 148, 168 and 188 kcal/%cp were evaluated with male broiler chicks from 22 to 42 days of age, assigned to a completely randomized 3 x 4 factorial design, where each treatment had four replications of 18 birds. increasing the me: cp ratio resulted in linear decreasing effect on feed intake, live weight, weight gain, crude protein intake, energy intake, carcass weight, breast meat weight, drumsticks weight and linearly increased abdominal fat percentage within each level of energy. the 148 me:cp ratio (20,95% cp) in the level of 3100 kcal me met the broilers requirements to optimum growth from 22 to 42 days of age, while 188 me:cp ratio was inadequate. because of the high costs, decreasing em: pb ratio must be evaluated to optimize a production system where the carcass quality is also considered.
