Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-204X2005001100007
Abstract: this work aimed to evaluate the phenotypic diversity and symbiotic efficiency of bradyrhizobium strains isolated from amazonian soils, under different land use systems (crop, fallow, pasture, forest and agroforestry system). total protein profiles obtained by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (sds-page) of 46 strains showed great diversity, while 11 groups presented similarity above 80%. one of these groups contained the reference strain of b. elkanii: br29, recommended as soybean inoculant. twenty-two strains, tested in leonard jars for symbiotic efficiency with vigna unguiculata (l.) walp. (cowpea) produced shoot dry matter, n-content, and relative efficiency higher than the control (without n, with inoculation). production of shoot dry matter and relative efficiency were induced by 13 strains in a way similar to the n-control (with n, without inoculation); five strains induced higher nitrogen content than n-control. native populations comprise high diversity of strains with variable symbiotic efficiency, and some of them could be recommended for agronomic efficiency assays.

Abstract: Specialty rices can present differences in some aspects related to grain pericarp color, shape, size, amylose content or aroma. Most of these rice types are related to cultural traditions and ceremonies, and some of them have also different nutritional value. As a specific market, the economic values of these grains are also higher than common milled rice. Santa Catarina State has the ideal conditions to produce specialty rices. The objective of this work was to develop a rice cultivar with special attributes for the well-appreciated risotto. Two rice lines were combined, evaluated and selected during ten years for characteristics related to Italian food. One line was selected and becomes the new rice variety SCS123 Pérola, developed to attend the economically important specialty rices market of Italian food, specifically the risotto. Experimental tests performed with this variety showed that it can be recommended to all rice-producing regions of Santa Catarina State, Brazil. Cooking tests showed that the grains are appropriated for risotto.

Abstract: this article reports on the experiences of the human rights in schools project in the creation and conduction of a teacher education course aiming at the dissemination of the ideals and values of human rights, democracy and citizenship as guiding principles for each and every school practice, and not just for pedagogical discourses. it must be said that such objective constitutes a great challenge, given the historical features of the brazilian school and of the brazilian society at large. against the backdrop of that challenge, the text summarizes the principles, activities, and reflections resulting from the most significant experiences of the first three years of work of this project in schools belonging to the state and municipal networks in the cities of s?o paulo and osasco. among other things, this article presents the different forms assumed by the above-mentioned course given the difficulty in shaping activities capable of turning school's everyday practices into an object of reflection for those directly involved in the act of educating, as well as for the school institution as a whole. it also points out important features engendered by this teacher continuing education proposal in its search for answers to the challenges currently faced by the brazilian school in fulfilling its public role.
