Eyler, Gladys N.;Ca?izo, Adriana I.;Mateo, Carmen M.;
Química Nova , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-40422004000600016
Abstract: the thermal decomposition reaction of trans-3,6-dimethyl-3,6-diphenyl-1,2,4,5-tetraoxacyclohexane (acetophenone cyclic diperoxide, dpaf), in different solvents (methanol, 1,4-dioxane, acetonitrile and 2-propanol/benzene mixtures) in the initial concentration and temperature ranges of (4.2-10.5) x 10-3 m and 140.0 to 185.0 oc, respectively, follows a pseudo first order kinetic law up to at least 70% dpaf conversion. an important solvent effect on the rate constant values, activation parameters (dh# and ds#) and reaction products obtained in different solvents is detected, showing that the reaction is accelerated in alcohols.

La reivindicación de la diferencia en el Romanticismo alemán
Marí-a Mateo i Ferrer
"The vindication of the diference in germanic romanticism" Within the philosophical discussion between Idealism and Romanticism that took place in Germany toward 1800, they were formed the basic directives that will guide all (critical or apologetical) later exposition about the subjectivity. The Idealism, represented by Fichte, Schelling and Hegel (its highest summit), supposes the radicalization of the modern subjectivity. This movement put the foundations of the systematic understanding of the world in an absolute selfconscienceness that did not admit any type of internal or external diferentiation. The first Romanticism (centered in the thoughts of Schlegel, Novalis and H lderlin), however, was developed by the main consideration of the spontaneous and individual subjective life. The romantic subject was an individual with feelings, instincts and understanding. This kind of wealth was not let catch in a systematic thought but do it in the frame of the artistic expression. The first Romanticism supposed the discovery of the variety, the insecurity and the contradiction of the subject in Modernity. Keywords sujeto --- individualidad --- absoluto --- identidad --- vitalidad --- ironía --- síntesis
The demarcation between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Una region from the 17th to the 20th century according to original cartographic material
Mithad Kozli?i,Mateo Bratani?,Sanda Ugle?i
Geoadria , 2011,
Abstract: The article presents the latest scientific research results regarding the presentation of what are nowadays Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina territories on geographic maps from the 17th to the 20th century. The focus is set on twenty maps that point to the most important tendencies. Particular attention is paid to wars and international treaties which regulated the demarcation of Una watercourse up to its confluence to the Sava as a centuries-old border between the Habsburg and the Ottoman empires.

Abstract: ceived barriers to mental health care and goal setting among depressed, community-dwelling older adults Original Research (5708) Total Article Views Authors: Mark I Weinberger, Camila Mateo, Jo Anne Sirey Published Date May 2009 Volume 2009:3 Pages 145 - 149 DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.2147/PPA.S5722 Mark I Weinberger1, Camila Mateo2, Jo Anne Sirey1 1Department of Psychiatry, Weill Cornell Medical College, White Plains, NY, USA; 2College of Public Health and Health Professions, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL, USA Objective: Older adults are particularly vulnerable to the deleterious effects of depression and tend to underutilize mental health services. The current study aims to characterize the perceived barriers to care and goal setting in a sample of depressed, community-dwelling older adults. Methods: We report on the association among perceived barriers to care, goal setting and accepting a mental health referral using a subset of data from a larger study. The Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) was used to assess depressive symptoms. Results: Forty-seven participants completed the study (Mean age = 82, SD = 7.8, 85% female). Accessing and paying for mental health treatment were the barriers most frequently cited by participants. Clinical improvement and improved socialization were most cited goals. In bivariate associations, participants who set goals (χ2 = 5.41, p = 0.02) and reported a logistic barrier (χ2 = 5.30, p = 0.02) were more likely to accept a mental health referral. Conclusion: Perceived barriers to care and goal setting appear to be central to accepting a mental health referral among community dwelling older, depressed adults. Developing interventions that can be used to increase mental health service utilization of older adults is necessary.

Boletín médico del Hospital Infantil de México , 2005,
Abstract: introduction. objective: to evaluate the frequency and type of dermatologic lesions in 2 cohorts of newborns in mexico city. material and methods. we prospectively studied 1 000 newborns, according to the institution in which they were delivered: 500 in a public institution (group a) and 500 at 2 private hospitals (group b) in mexico city. a specific data sheet was prepared for this purpose; all identified and diagnosed muco-cutaneous disorders in every child, according to widely accepted clinical criteria were recorded to be analyzed on the basis of their frequency and compared to each other, and also with other series from other countries. statistical analysis included percentages and chi-square. results. in this study, 100% of newborns presented an average 3 to 6 skin lesion. the skin lesions fell into 2 categories: transient and permanent. it is also demonstrated that there are very clear differences between our 2 groups; mongolian patch is the most common transient disease and fibroepithelial polyp is the most frequent permanent disorder. conclusions. the information obtained in the present paper is new and relevant since there is no previous data about this subject in mexico. cutaneous lesions are present in 100% of newborns; they are mostly transient and usually not life-threatening. newborn skin disorders in our population are present in every child, from 3 to 6 as an average, and vary widely according to ethnic features revealed by skin types.
The Mechanisms of Catalysis by Metallo -Lactamases
Michael I. Page,Adriana Badarau
Bioinorganic Chemistry and Applications , 2008, DOI: 10.1155/2008/576297
Abstract: Class B -lactamases or metallo--lactamases (MBLs) require zinc ions to catalyse the hydrolysis of -lactam antibiotics such as penicillins, cephalosporins, carbapenems, and cephamycins. There are no clinically useful inhibitors against MBLs which are responsible for the resistance of some bacteria to antibiotics. There are two metal-ion binding sites that have different zinc ligands but the exact roles of the metal-ion remain controversial, and distinguishing between their relative importance is complex. The metal-ion can act as a Lewis acid by co-ordination to the -lactam carbonyl oxygen to facilitate nucleophilic attack and stabilise the negative charge developed on this oxygen in the tetrahedral intermediate anion. The metal-ion also lowers the pKa of the directly co-ordinated water molecule so that the metal-bound hydroxide ion is a better nucleophile than water and is used to attack the -lactam carbonyl carbon. An intrinsic property of binuclear metallo hydrolytic enzymes that depend on a metal-bound water both as the attacking nucleophile and as a ligand for the second metal-ion is that this water molecule, which is consumed during hydrolysis of the substrate, has to be replaced to maintain the catalytic cycle. With MBL this is reflected in some unusual kinetic profiles.
