Occurrence and risk factors associated with canine leptospirosis
Kikuti, M;Langoni, H;Nobrega, DN;Corrêa, APFL;Ullmann, LS;
Journal of Venomous Animals and Toxins including Tropical Diseases , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1678-91992012000100016
Abstract: leptospirosis is a globally distributed emerging zoonosis. dogs are commonly affected and although other serovars can cause canine leptospirosis, leptospira interrogans serovar canicola is primary found in these animals. a retrospective study was conducted using a database of 1195 dogs tested for leptospira infection from 2003 to 2010 at the laboratory of zoonosis diagnosis at the veterinary hospital of s?o paulo state university (unesp) in botucatu, s?o paulo state, brazil. the seroprevalence of infected dogs was 20.08% (240/1195), and the most prevalent serovars were canicola (6.7%), copenhageni (5.0%), icterohaemorrhagiae (2.9%), autumnalis (2.9%), pyrogenes (2.8%), pomona (2.0%), hardjo (2.0%), australis (1.8%), bratislava (1.6%), cynopteri (1.4%), grippotyphosa (1.3%) and djasiman (1.0%). by univariate analysis, the variables age and breed were not statistically related to the infection, while gender and season were. the effects of gender were also noticeable related to serovars australis, canicola and hardjo. in multivariate analysis, the level of significance (p-value) of season was suppressed by gender, indicating possible collinearity between those two variables.

Controlled Algebra for Simplicial Rings and Algebraic K-theory
Mark Ullmann
Mathematics , 2014,
Abstract: We develop a version of controlled algebra for simplicial rings. This generalizes the methods which lead to successful proofs of the algebraic K- theory isomorphism conjecture (Farrell-Jones Conjecture) for a large class of groups. This is the first step to prove the algebraic K-theory isomorphism conjecture for simplicial rings. We construct a category of controlled simplicial modules, show that it has the structure of a Waldhausen category and discuss its algebraic K-theory. We lay emphasis on detailed proofs. Highlights include the discussion of a simplicial cylinder functor, the gluing lemma, a simplicial mapping telescope to split coherent homotopy idempotents, and a direct proof that a weak equivalence of simplicial rings induces an equivalence on their algebraic K-theory. Because we need a certain cofinality theorem for algebraic K-theory, we provide a proof and show that a certain assumption, sometimes omitted in the literature, is necessary. Last, we remark how our setup relates to ring spectra.
The First Differential of the Functor "Algebraic K-Theory of Spaces"
Mark Ullmann
Mathematics , 2014,
Abstract: In his "Algebraic K-theory of topological spaces II" Waldhausen proved that his functor A(X) splits: There is a canonical map from the stable homotopy of X which has a retraction up to weak equivalence. We adapt Waldhausen's proof to obtain a calculation of the Differential (in the sense of Goodwillie's "Calculus I") of A(X) at any path-connected base space.
Interactions between environment, wild animals and human leptospirosis
Ullmann, LS;Langoni, H;
Journal of Venomous Animals and Toxins including Tropical Diseases , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1678-91992011000200002
Abstract: leptospirosis, a worldwide distributed zoononis caused by bacteria of the genus leptospira (antigenically classified into serovars), may be direct or indirectly transmitted through infected urine or environment. several domestic and wild animals are leptospirosis reservoirs. the disease presents occupational character since it is widely reported in professionals that work in humid environments - such as sewage workers and fishermen - and in places where rodents or susceptible animals are found, like slaughterhouses and veterinary clinics. in developing countries, outbreaks are related to lack of sanitation, overcrowding in inadequate housing and climatic conditions. in developed countries, sporadic cases occur in aquatic recreational activities including swimming and triathlon. the diagnosis of leptospirosis is complex due to the variety of symptoms, disease severity and the lack of techniques that are able to early detect the infection. thus, leptospirosis causes numerous public health problems and educational activities are very important to its control.

This little paper deals with the word “individual” and its multiple signification, named in the introductory outline. It was presented in S o Paulo, may 2009, celebrating the XVIth Interdisciplinary Symposium of Greek-Roman Studies.
Aspectos filosóficos da morte
Ullmann, Reinholdo Aloysio
Teocomunica??o , 2008,
This paper deals with philosophical aspects of the death, following a diachronic outline since Homer’s time until the Hellenistic period. The author tries to show the relation between the life in this world and the destiny of the soul after death, according to diverse conceptions. He doesn’t hide the doctrine of nihilism, of metemsomatosis, the beliefs in Hades and the terrible punishments suffered by bad souls in the hell. Some pages of the article illustrate the cult dedicated to dead women and men since immemorial times.
é impossível conhecer Deus pela raz o?
Ullmann, Reinholdo Aloysio
Teocomunica??o , 2006,
Abstract: Este artigo trata do problema da cognoscibilidade de Deus ou n o, do ponto de vista filosófico, com representantes citados. Um corolário enfoca a "morte de Deus" decretada por Nietzsche. This paper deals with the problem of the cognoscibility of God or not focused on the philosophical viewpoint with thinkers cited. Nietzsche and his “death of God” also is broached.
O homem e a liberdade em Plotino
Ullmann, Reinholdo Aloysio
Teocomunica??o , 2008,
This paper deals with the problem of the human being and the freedom in Plotinus’ Enneads. Like Plato, he defends the preexistence of the soul and, at the same time, the capacity for choosing between evil and good actions. The highest stage of freedom is the mystical union with God. He is panentheist. But a false idea of his cosmovision is the so-called apocatastasis. God for Plotinus is causa sui; it means that the One is what He wishes to be and cannot be different. In Plotinus we see a man as a symbol looking for transcendence in our antimetaphysical world.
