DETECTION OF ETHYLENE FOR IN VIRO EVALUATION OF THE UV PHOTOPROTECTION

Abstract: ABSTRACT: In this study, the antioxidant capacity during UV exposure has been investigated by using a laser-based trace gas detector for the detection of gaseous ethylene as an indicator for lipid peroxidation. Biocream was used as a control and ascorbic acid, butylated hydroxytoluene, phloroglucinol and hydroquinone were added as antioxidants in a mixing concentration of 2.5% (w/w). The experimental results show that there is a decrease in the number of ROS due to the presence of antioxidants, from which ascorbic acid is the most effective. The detection method offers a direct and on-line way to evaluate the capability of antioxidant in reducing the harmful effect of the UV radiation.
Biofilm, dental unit water line and its control

Abstract: Biofilms are well-organized communities of cooperating microorganisms that can include bacteria, algae, fungi and diatoms. Dental unit waterlines (DUWL) are an integral part of dental surgery equipment, supplying water as a coolant, primarily for air turbine and ultrasonic scalers. Surveys of dental unit waterlines (DUWLs) indicate that biofilm formation is a universal problem and great majority of bacteria that have been identified from DUWL are ubiquitous, although present in only low numbers in domestic water distribution systems, but can flourish as biofilms on the lumen surfaces of narrow-bore waterlines in dental units. DUWL contamination and its significance as a factor in nosocomial infection of patients and health care workers has stressed the risk to immunocompromized persons. Not only patients but also dentists and dental personnel are at risk of being infected with opportunistic pathogens such as Pseudomonas or Legionella species by means of cross-infection or after aerosol formation from water emanating from DUWL. Several methods of decreasing the level of contamination in DUWL have been proposed. At present, the goal of this review is to discuss various aspects of biofilm formation and effective standardized disinfecting methods to maintain low bacterial counts in dental water line. This will increase the awareness of potential health risks posed by biofilm formation and provide information on techniques and devices designed to control the microbial contamination of DUWLs.

Abstract: In 1969 and 1976, 237 rodents and carnivores collected from the Bandar abbas area South of Iran was examined fro Trichianella spiralis. 23% of foxes, 25% of stray dogs and all three captured golden jackals were found to be infected.

Abstract: In 1969 and 1976, 830 rodents and carnivores col1ected from North East Iran were examined for Trichinella spiralis. Fifty per cent of golden jackal and 30 percent of red foxes were found infected. The possibility of infection among the rodent was discussed could be considered as new transmission. The results of examination of 1534 total blood samples collected from children up to 15 years old in selected villages of the Hamadan area at, the end of the transmission season of 1973 showed only: serological positive case. This investigation showed that the malaria infection rate, in the selected areas, which seemed to be the most appropriate region in Iran, is now too low for such study.
Self-Synchronization in a System of Nonlinear Van Der Pol Oscillators

Abstract: The questions of self-synchronization in a system of weakly nonlinear feedback oscillators by the example of two self-oscillating van der Pol systems are discussed. It is shown that synchronization occurs in a narrow range of values of the coupling parameter; outside of this range the dynamics of the system is autonomous. It is shown that the breaking of synchronization is connected with the change in the topology of the attractors, which are phase incoherent.
Laser Keratoplasty: Refractive and Functional Results in Hypermetropic and Mixed Astigmatism Correction

Abstract: The aim of the study is to determine the effectiveness of correction of a simple hypermetropic and mixed astigmatism by means of a laser thermokeratoplasty according to the technology developed on “OKO-1” device.Materials and methods. There have been analyzed the results of treatment of 98 patients (169 eyes) with a simple (58 eyes) astigmatism and the patients with mixed astigmatism (111 eyes). Results. A year after the operation there has been obtained the evidence of effectiveness of the technique suggested: a mean cylindrical refraction component has been reduced from –2,90±0,71 to –0,74±0,67 diopter (р < 0,05), and a mean spherical component — from 1,79±0,83 to 1,08±0,11 diopter (р < 0,05). Due to the increase of cornea refraction, visual activity has increased both in cases without correction and in those with glasses correction. And vision without correction after a laser thermokeratoplasty (0,64±0,07) has exceeded a mean visual activity before the operation (0,51±0,02) (p < 0,05).
Prevalence of Listeria monocytogenes in Poultry Meat, Poultry Meat Products and Other Related Inanimates at Faisalabad

Abstract: Present study was performed on three hundred and twenty samples of poultry meat and poultry meat products, 40 samples each from fresh poultry meat, fresh chicken boneless, frozen poultry meat, frozen chicken nuggets, frozen chicken burgers, chopping boards, mincing machines and cleaning cloths collected from different poultry meat sale centers, supermarkets and shops at Faisalabad. Listeria species could be isolated from all the examined samples at different percentages ranging from 10 to 37.5%. Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes) was differentially identified from other Listeria species by colony characteristics, `beta haemolysis`, `cold enrichment procedure`, `Anton test`, `aesculin test`, characteristic `tumbling motility`, sugar fermentation tests and serotyping. L. monocytogenes could be isolated at variable percentages ranging from 2.5 to 17.5% of the examined samples from poultry meat and poultry meat products. From the 31 isolates of L. monocytogenes isolated from examined samples, 23 strains belonged to type 1 and 8 strains belonged to type 4. Study revealed that the incidence of L. monocytogenes was much higher in frozen poultry meat products and other related inanimates as compared to fresh poultry meat samples. The public health hazards as well as suggestive measures to reduce human Listeriosis have been discussed.
A case of transitional cell bladder carcinoma prolapsed from the external urethral orifice: A 6-year follow-up after percutaneous suprapubic bladder

Abstract: A 30-year-old female was admitted in emergency with acute urinary retention due to bladder tumour prolapsed from the external urethral orifice. The patient underwent immediate endoscopic surgery via suprapubic percutaneous approach. The histological examination confirmed a superficial highly differentiated transitional cell bladder carcinoma. During the 6-year follow-up no evidence of local recurrence or metastatic tumor spread was revealed. The comprehensive Medline search confirmed that this is the fourth case of bladder tumor prolapsed from the external urethral orifice, reported so far. The case deserves the interest of practicing urologists because of the exceptional rarity of the entity and the unconventional treatment approach which involves using a percutaneous suprapubic endoscopic technique. Based on the results achieved, we can recommend this unconventional endoscopic approach as specifically indicated in certain situations. .
Properties of Zirconia Nanoceramics under High-energy Electrons Irradiation

Abstract: Formation of radioactive isotopes is investigated under irradiation by relativistic electrons with energy up to 100 MeV. Radioactive isotopes 87,88Y, 88,89,95Zr, 95Nb, 175Hf are registered after irradiation by relativistic electrons with energy 47.2 MeV. The present data are necessary for the choice of a material for a dielectric wakefield accelerator. The greatest danger at operation of accelerators represents 88Y. Formation of radiation defects in nanoceramics is investigated. The various types of radiation defects are found out at an irradiation by relativistic electrons with energy 47 MeV and 86 MeV. In UV-VIS spectra the absorption lines of radiation are registered at 402.2 nm and 635 nm, which correspond to the F and F' centers of monocline lattices of zirconia. It is revealed, that krypton atoms are the centers of segregation of point defects.
BETA-ADRENORECEPTORS GENETIC POLYMORPHISM CONNECTION WITH BETA-BLOKER THERAPY EFFICACY IN PATIENTS WITH CARDIOVASCULAR DISORDERS

Abstract: At present it is obvious that genetic peculiarities of patients are the major reason for individual differences in pharmacological responses to (β-adrenoblockers. Furthermore ADRB1 gene polymorphism is responsible for the efficiency of (β-adrenoblockers. Thus, a real prospect exists for an individualized approach to administration of (β-adrenoblockers and selection of dosage based on patient’s genotype, which must undoubtedly increase efficiency of the administered therapy. Reviewfocuses on gene polymorphism responsible for (β-adrenoblockers pharmacodynamics and on the clinical significance of the polymorphism detection to individualize drug therapy based on patient’s genotype.
