Abstract: Resumen: En algún tiempo, la disyunción entre filosofía y poesía pareció nombrar el instante fundacional que dio vida singular a la filosofía, haciendo innecesario referirse a otra cosa que no fuera ella misma. La voz del pensamiento que dejaba de ser relevante para la filosofía era la fábula, donde la palabra se diferenciaba de la vida sin disociarse de ella. Para María Zambramo siempre habrá un extranjero con quien combatirá y se defenderá el pensamiento filosófico. La disyunción asegura una identidad frágil, permanentemente en crisis, siempre en peligro de verse acaparada, reducida, sofocada por la otra sabiduría. Pero también la otra y la separación que hace posible es como una reparación: mantiene unido, aunque sea sutilmente, lo separado. Abstract: At a certain time, the disjunction between philosophy and poetry seemed to denominate the foundational moment which gave a singular life to philosophy, making it unnecessary to refer to anything that was not philosophy. The voice of thought that stopped being relevant to philosophy was the fable, where the word differed from life without disassociating itself from life. For María Zambrano there will always be a foreigner with whom she will fight and will defend philosophical thought. The disjunction assures a fragile identity, permanently in crisis, always in danger of being monopolized, reduced, suffocated by the other knowledge. But also the other and the separation which it makes possible is like a redress: it maintains united, although maybe subtlely, what is separate.

Abstract: In this paper the act of lying is seen as a necessary component of the political discourse of the polis. Plato and Arendt are examined as the representatives of a line of thought in which the political realm needs the act of lying. The actual problematic of lying in politics is debated. El texto Mentir en política aborda el papel que la mentira ha jugado en el lenguaje de la política y el lugar problemático que la Filosofía política le ha otorgado. Se escogen dos autores, Platón y Arendt, para mostrar la necesidad de incluir el discurso mentiroso como un componente esencial de la vida política de la ciudad. En breve, se trata de analizar los límites que la ciudad impone al discurso de lo político y de la política.
An Assessment of Rare Earth Aluminates as Possible Radiation Shields for Artificial Satellites in Low Earth Orbit  [PDF]

Abstract: Charged particles injected into dielectric material of artificial satellites may cause data flipping, command errors and charges in dielectric material properties. In this work we report the results of an evaluation of rare earth aluminates as possible radiation shields for its application in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite construction. With help of Geant4 software, we calculated the radiation dose that a target receives at a typical LEO (685 km) as a function of the shield thickness. The target used was a silicon plate, the shields used were hollow cubes of rare earth aluminate walls (YAlO3, LaAlO3, NdAlO3 and GdAlO3), and we also used aluminium oxide (Al2O3). The radiation source was the measured fluxes of electron and proton with a spectrum corresponding to a LEO. We found that of the total radiation dose received by the target without shield is 5847 microGy/hour, of which, the electrons contribute with 94.9% and the protons with 5.1%. The rare earth aluminates are a better shield than the Al2O3 to protect a target against the radiation that permeates a LEO near to equator.

Abstract: treatments for inherited and acquired diseases are pointing towards gene therapy, which depends on methods to introduce foreign genetic material into cells. unfortunately, most of the methods available to allow incorporation of transgenes into the genome are not selective to target a particular population of cells. the present article describes the use of shock waves as a cell - permeabilization method to load a reporter gene into cultured cells. shock waves were generated by underwater electrical breakdown and focused on the vials containing cell suspension using an ellipsoidal reflector. transfection was achieved due to acoustic cavitation generated inside the test vials after passage of each shock wave. the number of transfected cells was still low; nevertheless, our results show the feasibility of cell transfection by underwater shock waves.

Abstract: La incorporación de material genético al interior de una célula puede ser de gran utilidad para el tratamiento de algunas enfermedades heredadas y adquiridas. Desgraciadamente, la mayoría de los métodos para lograr dicha incorporación (transfección) no son selectivos. Este artículo describe la aplicación de ondas de choque como método para incorporar un gen reportero al interior de células en suspensión. Se dise ó un dispositivo experimental para generar ondas de choque por medio de descargas eléctricas en agua y enfocarlas con un reflector elipsoidal sobre los viales que contenían las células en suspensión. La transfección celular se logró debido a la cavitación acústica generada en el interior de los viales por el paso de las ondas de choque. A pesar de que el número de células transfectadas fue bajo, se demostró que, desde el punto de vista físico, es factible transfectar células con ondas de choque.

Vasoinhibins Prevent Bradykinin-Stimulated Endothelial Cell Proliferation by Inactivating eNOS via Reduction of both Intracellular Ca2+ Levels and eNOS Phosphorylation at Ser1179

Abstract: Vasoinhibins, a family of antiangiogenic peptides derived from prolactin proteolysis, inhibit the vascular effects of several proangiogenic factors, including bradykinin (BK). Here, we report that vasoinhibins block the BK-induced proliferation of bovine umbilical vein endothelial cells. This effect is mediated by the inactivation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), as the NO donor DETA-NONOate reverted vasoinhibin action. It is an experimentally proven fact that the elevation of intracellular Ca 2+ levels ([Ca 2+] i) upon BK stimulation activates eNOS, and vasoinhibins blocked the BK-mediated activation of phospholipase C and the formation of inositol 1,4,5-triphosphate leading to a reduced release of Ca 2+ from intracellular stores. The [Ca 2+] i rise evoked by BK also involves the influx of extracellular Ca 2+ via canonical transient receptor potential (TRPC) channels. Vasoinhibins likely interfere with TRPC-mediated Ca 2+ entry since La 3+, which is an enhancer of TRPC4 and TRPC5 channel activity, prevented vasoinhibins from blocking the stimulation by BK of endothelial cell NO production and proliferation, and vasoinhibins reduced the BK-induced increase of TRPC5 mRNA expression. Finally, vasoinhibins prevented the BK-induced phosphorylation of eNOS at Ser 1179, a post-translational modification that facilitates Ca 2+-calmodulin activation of eNOS. Together, our data show that vasoinhibins, by lowering NO production through the inhibition of both [Ca 2+] i mobilization and eNOS phosphorylation, prevent the BK-induced stimulation of endothelial cell proliferation. Thus, vasoinhibins help to regulate BK effects on angiogenesis and vascular homeostasis.

Abstract: the diagnosis of haemangiomata and cutaneous vascular malformations is based on clinical history and physical exploration. imaging studies might be necessary to clarify and confirm the diagnosis, and in order to analyse the extent of the lesions by permitting an evaluation of their non-visible component as well as the affection of neighbouring structures. finally, they also play an important role when it comes to planning and directing treatment, whether surgical or endovascular. the imaging techniques employed for haemangiomas and vascular malformations include: plain films ultrasound (doppler), computerised tomography (angio-ct), magnetic resonance (angio-mr) and the angiographic techniques (arteriography, phlebography).
